Missing 24-year-old woman found ‘safe,' police say

Springfield Police said in a social media post on Wednesday that Hailey Travis 'has been located and is safe.'
As previously reported by News Center 7, Springfield Police reported Travis missing on June 4.
Police said she was last seen in the area of Main and Florence Streets.

Fake tutor tries to meet child for sex acts, feds say. Florida cops were waiting
A man accused of posing as a tutor in a local Facebook group found Florida deputies waiting for him when he tried to meet a 12-year-old girl for sex acts, court documents say. Now, Kevin Patrick Wilson, 39, of Ponte Vedra, will spend the next decade in federal prison, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Middle District of Florida. His court-appointed defense attorney did not immediately return McClatchy News' request for comment July 15. Wilson was arrested by St. Johns County sheriff's deputies the evening of July 24, 2024, after prosecutors said he had been communicating with someone he believed was the guardian of the 12-year-old girl. It was actually an undercover detective pretending to be the caregiver for the child, who was a decoy, according to prosecutors. The St. Johns County Sheriff's Office and the FBI began investigating Wilson in response to a tip from a woman that came in four days before his arrest, according to prosecutors. On July 20, 2024, Wilson responded to a Facebook post shared by the woman in a 'St. Augustine Jobs' group, court documents say. In her post, the woman wrote she was looking for a math and writing tutor for a child in sixth grade, court documents say. Wilson commented under her post, but pretended to be his wife and wrote, 'Hi please text my husband Kevin on his cell phone number…,' according to prosecutors. When the woman texted the phone number Wilson provided, she told Wilson she needed a tutor for an 11-year-old, prosecutors wrote in court filings. Then, Wilson 'sent a photo of himself and asked for a photo of the child,' prosecutors said. The woman stopped texting Wilson afterward and informed the St. Johns County Sheriff's Office of their conversation, according to prosecutors. The sheriff's office set up a sting operation that involved an undercover detective texting Wilson a few days later, pretending to be the guardian of a 12-year-old girl, prosecutors said. After the detective asked Wilson about tutoring services for the fake child, Wilson 'began discussing sexual topics involving the purported 12-year-old,' court documents say. Wilson talked about 'meeting the 'child' to perform sexual acts,' prosecutors said. At certain points, Wilson was under the impression that he was texting and speaking with the girl directly, but he was communicating with additional undercover detectives instead, according to prosecutors. Wilson then tried luring the 12-year-old girl into sex acts by arranging a meeting with the detective posing as her guardian on July 24, 2024, prosecutors said. 'Wilson traveled to the predetermined meeting location and was arrested,' prosecutors said. On March 12, Wilson pleaded guilty to attempted enticement and coercion of a minor to engage in sexual activity, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office. He was sentenced to 10 years in prison on July 10, court records show. Days after his arrest, Wilson's neighbor, Kathy Bargar, told Action News Jax that she was shocked to learn he was taken into custody, she told Action News Jax. 'You never know who's living next door to you,' Bargar said in an interview with the TV station. 'It's devastating, I can't believe it,' she added. Robert Griffin III is not happy about it. Bridgewater got himself into some controversy for violating district policies by personally funding Uber rides, meals, and recovery services for his players. Advertisement It was his own social media post that prompted the investigation. In a lengthy Facebook post, Bridgewater asked for donations for the football program, admitting that he had spent considerable amounts of money out of his pocket on the team in 2024, when they won the state championship. That includes, as he specifically stated, 'around $700 on Uber fees' and around $1,500 for food per week. A nice gesture, but a violation, and something another Florida high school team was punished for back in November. Robert Griffin III Comes to Teddy Bridgewater's Defense Former Washington Commanders quarterback Robert Griffin III is publicly defending Teddy Bridgewater over the suspension. Griffin criticized it as 'punishing love, leadership, and sacrifice.' Advertisement 'He got suspended for taking care of his players when they were in need, teaching them how to take care of their bodies and giving them the necessities to help them chase their dreams for a brighter future,' Griffin said. 'Not cheating. Not stealing. Just caring.' Griffin added, 'Suspending Teddy Bridgewater isn't justice. It's punishing love, leadership, and sacrifice.' Bridgewater played nine NFL seasons across six teams, including the Minnesota Vikings and Detroit Lions, throwing for 15,120 yards and 75 touchdowns in 79 games. Griffin certainly has a point, to a degree. For all the things coaches can get themselves suspended for, Teddy Bridgewater's generosity is way down the list. That said, the history here is a significant problem. The First Academy in Orlando was fined $36,000, forced to forfeit eight wins, and received a two-year postseason ban last season for paying for Uber rides. The league takes this kind of violation quite seriously. Bridgewater violated Miami-Dade County Public Schools' policies by personally funding services for his players, a rule designed to avoid favoritism and inequities. Having had a career in the NFL that provided him earnings of over $64 million, this coach can afford things that other Miami-Dade County coaches cannot offer their players. That's why it is an unfair advantage. Advertisement Have the parents of the players bake brownies to cover the cost of their rides and meals, the way every high school athlete's parents had to back in the day. You hate to see somebody punished for an act of kindness, but Bridgewater's actions are a clear violation. Look: Escaped sheep wrangled after social media plea in Oregon
July 15 (UPI) -- Police in Oregon said an escaped sheep was safely wrangled after "living its best life" on the loose in a Beaverton neighborhood. The Beaverton Police Department initially said in a Facebook post Sunday that officers were trying to find the owner of the sheep. "Have you lost your sheep? If so it's living its best life in the Murray Hill neighborhood of south Beaverton. We would love to help you corral it," the post said. Police updated the post Monday to say the search had been successful. "The owner of the sheep has been identified and the sheep has been returned," officials wrote.
