England's official cricket account couldn't resist poking fun at Team India's bizarre streak of toss losses. Despite India's strong performances on the field, they've now lost 14 tosses in a row. Adding to the humour, Ben Stokes was seen jokingly practising coin tosses ahead of the Manchester Test, as if trying to keep the streak alive.
After India lost the toss once again at Old Trafford in the fourth Test, England's social media team didn't miss the chance to take a playful jab with a witty tweet.
India have now lost 1️⃣4️⃣ international tosses in a row…
The odds of that happening are 16,384/1 🤯

What might have been a small problem has become a common joke. India men's team has now lost 14 straight tosses across formats. It's not just a stroke of bad luck statistically, the chances of this happening are an astonishingly low 0.00609%.
Captain Shubman Gill, who was appointed as the skipper before this Test series, has played well with the bat but has had no luck with the toss. The last time India's men's team won a toss was in the third T20I in Rajkot this January which, interestingly, was also the only match they lost in that series.
When was the last time India won a toss?
India last won a toss during the third T20I of the five-match series against England in Rajkot this January. With Suryakumar Yadav leading the side, the hosts chose to bowl first after winning the toss. However, that match turned out to be a setback for India in the shortest format, as they failed to chase down 172 and ended their innings at 145/9 on a tricky surface, losing by 26 runs.
Despite their continued bad luck with the toss, India's white-ball performance didn't disappoint. They bounced back strongly to clinch the remaining two T20Is and secure the series 4-1. This was followed by a 3-0 whitewash in the ODI series against England and an impressive campaign in the 2025 Champions Trophy, where India won all five matches to emerge champions.
The ongoing Test series against England is India's first in the red-ball format since that last toss victory.

Gautam Gambhir Engages In Fiery Verbal Spat With Oval Pitch Curator Ahead Of 5th Test

India head coach Gautam Gambhir was on Tuesday involved in a fiery verbal altercation with the Oval's pitch curator Lee Fortis during the team's optional training session ahead of the fifth and final Test against England. In the videos, which have now gone viral on social media, an upset Gambhir can be seen engaging in heated exchange with the pitch curator. The verbal altercation quickly escalated before India's batting coach Sitanshu Kotak intervened and took the Englishman to a different corner. However, Gambhir continued the argument from a distance. On the other hand, bowling coach Morne Morkel and assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate were seen listening keenly to the argument. There is still no clarity on why the two got into an argument. REVEALED! Why Did Gautam Gambhir Lose His Cool At The Oval Before Abusive Tirade

Last Updated: Gautam Gambhir's outburst at The Oval's head groundsman Lee Fortis was due to India not getting a suitable practice pitch. Tensions rose when Fortis made specific demands. The reasons behind Gautam Gambhir's stunning abusive tirade at The Oval head groundsman Lee Fortis are slowly coming out. According to further reports, it all started when India wasn't given a desirable surface to practice on the ground. Reportedly, the pitch provided was wet, and India asked for different arrangements, which were denied. Further, Fortis is said to have tried to pinpoint minute details at Gambhir, like where the team should make their marks and not, which further angered the head coach, unraveling into the argument. Videos from the incident show Gambhir pointing fingers at Fortis, and telling him, 'You can complain to whoever you want, you don't tell us what to do. You are just a groundsman.' India batting coach Sitanshu Kotak is said to have played a role in easing out tensions by speaking to both parties. He recently spoke at a press conference to explain what went down. 'When we were looking at pitch, they sent a staff member to order us to stand two and a half metres away," Kotak said. 'We were wearing joggers. It was a surprise, very odd. We were looking at the wicket with rubber spikes, and there was nothing wrong with it. We were making sure the ground wasn't damaged. It's a pitch, not an antique." Fortis was repeatedly asked for a comment by the media present on the ground but denied, only mentioning that Gambhir was 'a bit touchy' ahead of the big game. Kotak, on his part, said that India won't lodge any complaint. It all happened during India's official practice session before the Test. Not all players were present, but the support staff was there early to get hours into Arshdeep Singh, Sai Sudharsan and Kuldeep Yadav, among others. view comments First Published: July 29, 2025, 17:32 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
