Amit Shah to chair 'Manthan Baithak' of Cooperation Ministers of states, UTs on June 30
The Manthan Baithak will be chaired by the Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation, Amit Shah.
This significant event will witness the active participation of Cooperation Ministers and Additional Chief Secretaries/Principal Secretaries/Secretaries of Cooperation Departments of States/UTs and will serve as a platform to review progress, exchange views and chart the way forward to achieve the collective goal of strengthening the cooperative sector, said Ministry of Cooperation.
The primary objective of the Manthan Baithak is to comprehensively review the initiatives and schemes of the Ministry of Cooperation, evaluate the progress made, facilitate the exchange of experiences, best practices, and constructive suggestions from States and UTs.
The Manthan Baithak aims to foster a shared understanding and develop a coordinated endeavor to advance the Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of 'Sahkar Se Samriddhi' (Prosperity through Cooperation) through a mutual convergence.
The Manthan Baithak would discuss all major initiatives including the establishment of 2 lakh new Multi-purpose Primary Agricultural Credit Societies (PACS), dairy and fisheries cooperative societies to strengthen last-mile rural service delivery.
A key highlight will be the deliberation on the World's Largest Grain Storage Scheme in the cooperative sector, aimed at enhancing food security and farmers' empowerment. States will also present their progress under the 'Cooperation Among Cooperatives' campaign and the ongoing 'International Year of Cooperatives 2025', along with expectations for wider engagement.
The role of States in the activities of the three new National Multi-state Cooperative Societies, National Cooperative Export Limited (NCEL), National Cooperative Organics Limited (NCOL), and Bharatiya Beej Sahkari Samiti Limited (BBSSL), will also be reviewed.
Discussions will extend to the White Revolution 2.0 program and embedding circularity and sustainability in India's dairy sector, alongside procurement support price for pulse and maize farmers under the Atmanirbharta Abhiyan.
Key digital transformative initiatives such as PACS computerization, and the Computerization of Registrar Cooperative Society (RCS) Offices of States/UTs will be reviewed, with a special focus on the National Cooperative Database and its utility for policy planning.
The Manthan Baithak will witness a discussion on human resource development, training, and capacity building in the cooperative sector in light of the establishment of Tribhuvan Sahkari University.
Steps taken by the Central Government for the financial strengthening of the sector will also be discussed, such as the redressal of issues related to cooperative banks, the operationalization of the Shared Services Entity (SSE) for State Cooperative Banks (StCBs) and District Central Cooperative Banks (DCCBs) and the Umbrella Organization for Urban Cooperative Banks (UCBs).
This Manthan Baithak will act as a catalyst in highlighting the critical role of States/UTs in transforming state-level cooperatives into vibrant economic entities, through close collaboration between Center and States, with the spirit of cooperative federalism. (ANI)

The biofuel is not only helping farmers to generate income, but the development around it is creating new employment opportunities, especially in rural areas. "Along with increasing the income of farmers, this fuel is also creating new employment opportunities in rural areas," he added. In a recent conversation with IANS, the minister said that biofuel blending has reached 20 per cent this year, which was 1.4 per cent in 2014. India today stands strong as the third-largest biofuel producer in the world. According to official estimates, ethanol blending initiatives have improved farmer incomes over the past ten years because they are made from sugarcane, created jobs in rural areas, decreased CO2 emissions equal to planting 1.75 crore trees, and saved Rs 85,000 crore in foreign exchange. Leading this effort are public sector oil companies Indian Oil, Bharat Petroleum, and Hindustan Petroleum, which have introduced a variety of ethanol and gasoline blends throughout the nation. --IANS aps/na

BJP could see more changes after new MPs, governors, party chief
The Narendra Modi government may have plans for a Union Cabinet reshuffle, having completed one year of its third tenure. The ongoing organisation changes leading up to the election of a new BJP national president and a change in governors, with three new ones appointed Monday, are preparing the ground for it, as per sources. The appointment of new governors for Haryana and Goa and a Lt Governor for Ladakh comes a day after the Modi government announced nomination of four new members to the Rajya Sabha – Advocate Ujjwal Nikam, Meenakshi Jain, Harsh Vardhan Shringla and C Sadanandan Master. A senior BJP leader said: 'A majority of ministers holding significant portfolios have been repeated from the previous Modi government… While the emphasis so far was on continuity, the Cabinet may now be recalibrated along new priorities like External Affairs, as well as trade and commerce due to the new tariff regime of US President Donald Trump.' A party source pointed to Shringla, who has served as Indian Ambassador to the US, being inducted as MP. BJP insiders said that among those who may be replaced in the Cabinet are Rajya Sabha MPs who are towards the fag end of their tenure, who could be accommodated in the party's organisational ranks. Others said the BJP will look at leaders from its alliance partners, such as the JD(U), Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) and TDP, for ministers. While the JD(U) and LJP are based in Bihar, which goes to polls soon, the TDP heads the sole government in the South that the BJP is a part of. A leader said: 'Things have begun moving and the only relevant question is what happens next – a gubernatorial reshuffle, the announcement of the national party president and other leaders to senior party ranks, or a Cabinet reshuffle.' The BJP has completed the mandatory requirement of electing chiefs in more than half of its 37 state units, and is expected to set the ball rolling on who will succeed J P Nadda soon.
