Union Minister Amit Shah offers prayers at Ahmedabad's Jagannath Temple as Rath Yatra commences

Earlier, Shah extended greetings to the nation on the occasion of the sacred Jagannath Rath Yatra, describing the festival as a 'unique confluence of faith and devotion'.
'Hail Jagannath! Heartfelt greetings to all on the sacred festival of Shri Jagannath Rath Yatra. The Rath Yatra of Shri Jagannath Ji is a unique confluence of faith and devotion, which teaches us that moving forward while cherishing devotion, culture, and heritage is at the core of our being. I pray to Mahaprabhu Jagannath, Veer Balabhadra, and Mata Subhadra for the welfare and progress of all,' Shah posted on X.
The Union Minister Shah highlighted the significance of the Rath Yatra, stating that it embodies the essence of moving forward while cherishing devotion, culture, and heritage.
President Droupadi Murmu also offered her wishes on the Jagannath Rath Yatra and shared a post on her official 'X' handle.
'On the occasion of the sacred Rath Yatra, I extend my heartfelt greetings to the devotees of Lord Jagannath residing in India and abroad. Millions of devotees attain a divine experience by having the darshan of the revered deities--Balabhadra, Lord Shri Jagannath, Goddess Subhadra, and Chakraraj Sudarshan -- seated on the chariot. The human-like divine play of these godly forms is the specialty of the Rath Yatra. On this auspicious occasion, my prayer to Lord Shri Jagannath is that an atmosphere of peace, friendship, and affection prevails throughout the world.'
During the festival in Puri, devotees draw the grand chariots of the three deities -- Lord Jagannath, his brother Lord Balabhadra, and sister goddess Subhadra -- to the Gundicha Temple, where the deities reside for a week and then return to the Jagannath Temple. The Rath Yatra ceremony is expected to attract a large crowd, making traffic management a key issue. (ANI)

Emphasising defence and security as a key area of engagement, Prime Minister Modi said both nations would advance their collaboration guided by a shared vision. 'In the defence and security sector, we will progress with the guiding principle of 'Security through Solidarity.' Collaboration will be strengthened in key areas such as armed forces training, maritime security, defence supply chains, and cybersecurity,' he said during the joint press briefing. He also highlighted the strong economic relationship between the two countries. 'Our bilateral trade has crossed USD 3 billion. The Indian companies have invested $2 billion in around 900 projects,' the Prime Minister noted. He described the India-Ghana partnership as one built on common principles and shared struggles for independence. 'At the heart of the India-Ghana friendship lies our shared values, common struggles, and collective aspirations for an inclusive future. The freedom struggles of our two nations have served as a source of inspiration for many others. Even today, Ghana stands as a 'Beacon of Hope' in West Africa, exemplifying the strength of a vibrant democracy and inspiring neighbouring countries,' he said. Earlier, President John Mahama welcomed Prime Minister Modi to Ghana and announced that the Indian leader would be awarded the country's highest civilian honour at a banquet later in the evening. India backs Dalai Lama's sole authority in choosing his next successor
India on Thursday strongly rejected China's assertion that it must approve the reincarnation of the Dalai Lama, emphasising that only the Tibetan spiritual leader has the sole authority to determine his successor. Union Minister for Minority Affairs Kiren Rijiju, who is currently in Dharamshala to attend celebrations marking the Dalai Lama's 90th birthday, reiterated India's support for the Tibetan leader's autonomy in this matter. "And all those who follow the Dalai Lama feel that the Incarnation is to be decided by the established convention and as per the wish of the Dalai Lama himself. Nobody else has the right to decide it except him and the conventions in place," Rijiju said, as quoted by news agency PTI. Dalai Lama reaffirms continuation of the institution The spiritual leader recently affirmed that the 600-year-old institution of the Dalai Lama would continue beyond his lifetime. In a statement released on July 1, he confirmed that the authority to decide his successor lies exclusively with the Gaden Phodrang Trust, the official office of the Dalai Lama. 'I am affirming that the institution of the Dalai Lama will continue,' the Buddhist leader said. 'I have received messages from Tibetans in Tibet and abroad, as well as from followers of Tibetan Buddhism across the Himalayan region, Mongolia, the Russian Federation, and even mainland China.' 'The Gaden Phodrang Trust has sole authority to recognise the future reincarnation; no one else has any such authority to interfere in this matter,' he said. China presses its claim China, however, has restated its longstanding position that it holds the final say in the Dalai Lama's succession. At a press briefing on Wednesday, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said that the reincarnation of the 14th Dalai Lama must 'comply with Chinese laws and regulations, as well as religious rituals and historical conventions', according to a Reuters report. Beijing has consistently sought to exert control over the selection of Tibetan religious figures, challenging centuries-old spiritual practices that guide such decisions. Dalai Lama's past response to china's stance The 14th Dalai Lama, born Lhamo Dhondup in 1935, was recognised at the age of two through a traditional process involving visions, omens, and ritual tests — a method deeply rooted in Tibetan Buddhist customs. The spiritual leader has previously mocked Beijing's claim over the reincarnation process. In a 2017 remark, he said, 'In order (for the) Chinese government to take responsibility for reincarnation in general, particularly me, first, Chinese communists should accept the theory of rebirth.'

New Delhi: Leaders of the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) on Wednesday strongly criticised the ruling Mahayuti alliance and called for an apology from Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis following a Special Investigation Team's (SIT) submission to the Bombay High Court stating there was no foul play in the death of Disha Salian, the former manager of late actor Sushant Singh Rajput. Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of maligning Aaditya Thackeray with baseless allegations linking him to Salian's death. Speaking to ANI, Raut said, 'Devendra Fadnavis must apologise. Her death had sparked widespread conspiracy theories and political disputes within Maharashtra. Salian's father, Satish Salian, has repeatedly claimed that his daughter was gangraped and murdered. However, the Mumbai Police's affidavit submitted to the Bombay High Court rejected these claims, stating there was no evidence of sexual or physical assault. The police affidavit, filed by Senior Inspector Shailendra Nagarkar of Malvani Police Station, indicated that Salian died by suicide, jumping from her apartment window of her own volition. It cited that she was under 'tremendous mental stress' due to family disputes and failed business ventures, and was inebriated at the time of her death. Her fiancé, who was present on the night of the incident, also ruled out any foul play. In March, Satish Salian approached the Bombay High Court seeking a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe and a First Information Report (FIR) against Aaditya Thackeray. Subsequently, BJP MLA Nitesh Rane demanded Thackeray's resignation and criminal action against him. Aaditya Thackeray has challenged the petition, terming it 'false, frivolous, and motivated' and has sought a hearing before any orders are passed. The Bombay High Court is yet to decide on Satish Salian's plea for a CBI investigation.
