Emmanuel Macron and Wife Brigitte Have Another Awkward Airplane Moment Ahead of Royal Visit

French President Emmanuel Macron and his wife, Brigitte, appeared to have another awkward exchange when they were filmed arriving for an official state visit with the British royal family Footage showed the Macrons deplaning at RAF Northolt as the president offered a hand to his wife, which she seemed to ignore In May, Brigitte appeared to push her husband's face as they prepared to deboard a plane in Hanoi, VietnamFollowing their viral moment back in May, French President Emmanuel Macron and his wife, Brigitte, had another awkward airplane exchange on Tuesday, July 8, ahead of their official state visit with the British royal family. As the Macrons deplaned at RAF Northolt — where Prince William and Kate Middleton waited to welcome them — the French president, 47, reached up to extend his hand to his wife to help her down the stairs. Brigitte, however, chose to hold on to the rail until she reached the ground, seemingly snubbing her husband's gesture. Some interpreted the moment as a blatant brush-off; however, others pointed out that Brigitte, 72, could simply have been focused on keeping her balance on the airplane steps or preparing herself to greet the Prince and Princess of Wales. The couple were all smiles as they greeted William and Kate, both 43, with Emmanuel bestowing a royally unusual — but not protocol-breaking — kiss to Kate's hand. It was certainly a less scandalous moment than when the Macrons went viral in May after Brigitte appeared to push Emmanuel's face as they prepared to deboard a plane in Hanoi, Vietnam, at the start of a Southeast Asia tour. Later, an official at the Élysée Palace downplayed the incident, saying, "It was a moment when the president and his wife were relaxing one last time before the start of the trip by having a laugh," per Reuters. The Macrons appeared to be in good spirits for the rest of their first day in the U.K. Brigitte even shared a laugh with Queen Camilla as she and King Charles welcomed them for the first state visit made by France in 17 years. The two power couples posed together on the Royal Dais at Datchet Road near Windsor Castle, where the president and his wife will be staying during their visit. Later, the two couples took in an exhibition of art from the Royal Collection with a special connection to France in the castle's Green Drawing Room. The French state visit will last from July 8 through Thursday, July 10, with plenty of other official events planned, including a royal gala. Macron previewed the event in a post to X, in both English and French, ahead of the trip. 'The United Kingdom is a strategic partner, an ally, a friend. Our bond is longstanding, forged by History and strengthened by trust,' he wrote. 'Together, we will address the major challenges of our time: security, defence, nuclear energy, space, innovation, artificial intelligence, migration, and culture. These are all areas in which we seek to act together and deepen our cooperation in a concrete, effective, and lasting way," Macron added. Read the original article on People

Homes Swept Away Amid Flooding in New Mexico

Heavy rain in southern New Mexico on Tuesday afternoon caused catastrophic flash flooding, sweeping homes away and forcing water rescues and closing roads, officials said. The National Weather Service issued a flash flood emergency for the area around the village of Ruidoso, which was scarred by wildfires last year. There were no immediate reports of deaths, Kerry Gladden, a spokeswoman for the village of Ruidoso, said on late Tuesday afternoon. She said that two people had been injured and were in the hospital. Emergency responders rescued people from swiftly moving water and those trapped in their homes. She said it was unclear how many rescues there had been. 'A DANGEROUS situation is unfolding in RUIDOSO!' the National Weather Service said in a statement on social media. 'A FLASH FLOOD EMERGENCY remains in effect! Seek HIGHER GROUND NOW! Do NOT attempt to drive through the floodwaters. The current will carry away your vehicle!' The extent of damage was not immediately clear, Ms. Gladden said. The areas along the Rio Ruidoso extending into Ruidoso Downs and Glencoe were among the hardest hit places, she said. Jennifer Shoemake, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Albuquerque, said that more than 2.5 inches had fallen in the area where the South Fork fire ripped through last year. Preliminary data from a flood sensor operated by the United States Geological Survey showed the Rio Ruidoso at one of the gauges at Ruidoso, N.M., rose from about one and a half feet at 3 p.m. local time to more than 20 feet less than an hour later. The height began dropping again soon after. Michael Scales, spokesman for the Lincoln County office of emergency services, said there were a couple of water rescues underway on Tuesday but did not provide any details. 'It's all hands on deck,' he said. Ruidoso's tourism office posted on social media that 'our community is currently experiencing seasonal monsoon rains that have led to flash flooding in some areas.' The South Fork fire, which started on June 17, 2024, razed 17,066 acres. Officials determined that lightning had caused the fire. This is a developing story.

Jacqui Heinrich of Fox News fact-checks the story of her own engagement: 'True'

Jacqui Heinrich, senior White House correspondent for Fox News, just vetted the story of her own engagement to U.S. Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick on Tuesday. The verdict? It ain't fake news. The Pennsylvania Republican asked Heinrich for her hand in marriage in a lavender field in Provence, France, according to People. Promoting that story, the journalist wrote on X, "Fact check: true." Then she tacked on a couple of appropriately lovey emojis. Read more: Kayleigh McEnany of Fox News has a new baby. Big sis is thrilled; big bro not so much "The cooking was the dealmaker. Congrats Jacqui!" Fox News contributor Joe Concha said in comments. Chief foreign correspondent Trey Yingst chimed in with, "Love this news," while Jessica Tarlov, who speaks for Democrats on "The Five," wrote, "Ahhhhhh congratulations!!!" Fitzpatrick popped the question on June 29, People reported, before he had to hustle back to vote on the just-passed One Big Beautiful Bill Act. His inspiration came from something Heinrich told the Boston Globe last summer, ahead of the 2024 election: "I've always dreamed of eating my way through the French Riviera and Provence, with sun-drenched days at the lavender fields punctuated by crisp wines and salty butter." So Fitzpatrick, 51, booked a summer trip to France as a birthday gift for Heinrich, who turns 37 in November. But the journalist was concerned, she told the celebrity outlet, that her beau would have to cut the trip short to vote against Trump's bill, which the president signed into law on July 4. Did Fitzpatrick want to postpone the trip, she wondered? "He was like, 'We are going. We're going to the lavender fields. All I want is to see the lavender fields at sunrise,'" she told People. "All the time I've known this man, he has never been desperate to see a field of flowers at dawn. So I had a feeling that [a proposal] was the goal." After arriving in Nice, France, they drove two hours in darkness to catch the sunrise in the town of Valensole, known for its lavender and truffles. The town is built into a hill overlooking a small river valley, and a lavender festival is held there annually on the third Sunday in July. But the OBBBA waited for no sweet-smelling shrub, so attending the festival was definitely out. Fitzpatrick had an agenda. He stopped at one particular lavender field and suggested Heinrich go for a stroll while he took some photos of her, she told People. As she took in the view, a photographer and a drone appeared, she said, and Fitzpatrick was asking her to marry him and presenting a ring he had procured from her family's longtime jeweler. The photos, as seen on the outlet's website, are lovely. Heinrich, who has been dating Fitzpatrick since the 2021 Kennedy Center Honors, said yes. Fitzpatrick was also embedded with U.S. Special Forces during Operation Iraqi Freedom, according to his biography. "I love the way he approaches problem-solving and solving complex issues. He's strong and a man of faith, who brings me closer to God.," Heinrich said. "He's sweet and gentle and kind — all of the easy qualities in a person that just make him a joy to be around and life brighter." There's also a handy little bonus in this pairing, as revealed on the congressman's website: Should Heinrich find herself in need of an attorney, a certified public accountant or an emergency medical technician, she's definitely covered, because Fitzpatrick is licensed as all three.
