J&K Governor Urges Kashmir University Alumni To Power Educational Growth
Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha called upon the alumni of Kashmir University to come forward to strengthen the higher educational institutions of the Union Territory. He made the remarks while addressing the Mega Alumni Meet-2025 at the University of Kashmir in Srinagar on Sunday.
Chief Justice of India, Justice Bhushan Ramkrishna Gavai, Union Minister Kiren Rijiju, Judges of the Supreme Court, Chief Justice of the High Court of J-K and Ladakh, Justice Shri Arun Palli, and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah also attended the event.
In his address, Sinha extended his felicitations to the alumni and lauded the University of Kashmir for nurturing brilliant minds who have achieved tremendous accomplishments across domains and are driving societal transformation worldwide.
"Alumni is not just a network of former students, but a network of human potential which is dedicated towards nation-building," he said.
"Today, we are honoured to have among us the alumni who have truly made the nation proud. They are a living testament to the 77-year legacy of Kashmir University," he said.
The LG called upon the alumni to come forward to strengthen the higher educational institutions of J-K and use their expertise and network in various sectors to contribute to the peace and progress of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
He emphasised that the alumni must extend necessary handholding and support to young students in their internships and career prospects, inspire, guide, and empower them, and build a better future for the new generation.
"The tradition of selfless sharing is an integral part of our culture. I believe that, in the era of globalisation, alumni connections are the most effective strategy for the growth of any institution and region. University of Kashmir must create an institutional mechanism for the alumni, which will provide them with an opportunity to give back to the university," he said.
Sinha emphasised the implementation of the National Education Policy 2020 in educational institutions, in letter and spirit, to restore the past glory of India.
"Jammu and Kashmir has done tremendous work in this direction. Our innovative programmes like Design Your Own Degree are serving as inspiration for other higher educational institutions in the country," he said.

DGCA begins action against Air India for lapse in plane's emergency slide check
Aviation regulator DGCA has initiated enforcement action against Air India after finding that the inspection of emergency slide was overdue in an aircraft, Union Minister Murlidhar Mohol said on Monday July 28, 2025). In a written reply, the Minister of State for Civil Aviation said that during the audit of Air India, DGCA found that the inspection of emergency slide was overdue. "DGCA immediately grounded the aircraft till the required rectification was carried out. DGCA has initiated enforcement action against Air India and the responsible personnel as per Enforcement Policy and Procedure Manual of DGCA," he told the Rajya Sabha. Specific details, such as when the audit was conducted and when the enforcement action was initiated, were not disclosed. The Minister's response was to DMK member Tiruchi Siva's query on whether the government is aware that aircraft operated by Air India, in weeks preceding the crash of flight AI 171 in June, were allowed to fly with overdue emergency slide inspections, in violation of mandatory safety norms. The member also wanted to know whether accountability has been fixed on DGCA for regulatory oversight failure. In recent times, Air India has come under the scanner of the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) for various lapses. On June 12, Air India's Boeing 787-8 aircraft operating the flight AI 171 enroute to London Gatwick crashed into a building soon after take off from Ahmedabad, killing 260 people. Mr. Mohol said DGCA ensures the compliance by airlines with all safety and maintenance standards through the mechanism of conducting surveillance, spot check and night surveillance, among others, of airlines and its personnel. "In case of violation, DGCA takes enforcement action in accordance with procedures prescribed in Enforcement Policy and Procedure Manual. "The enforcement action consists of warning, suspension, cancellation including imposition of financial penalty to the airlines/ personnel. DGCA officials are well trained to perform the oversight and enforcement function," the minister said.

Stalin urges PM Modi to release Rs 2,149 crore pending under Samagra Shiksha funds
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin submitted a petition to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, urging the immediate release of over Rs 2,000 crore in pending educational funds and the implementation of long-pending railway projects across the state. The appeal was made through State Finance Minister Thangam Thennarasu during the Prime Minister's two-day visit to Tamil Nadu, where he inaugurated various development projects and unveiled a commemorative coin honouring Rajendra his letter, the Chief Minister said that the Tamil Nadu government has been effectively implementing the Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) scheme since 2018, which has led to consistent improvements in educational outcomes. He reiterated that the state has legal and policy-based objections to certain provisions of the NEP, especially the imposition of the three language policy and the restructuring of school education to the 5+3+3+4 format.'The Tamil Nadu School Education System currently accommodates 43.90 lakh students, 2.2 lakh teachers and more than 32,000 supporting staff. Withholding funds for such a critical and large-scale scheme severely affects the future of lakhs of students,' Stalin said.
