Kottayam: The mortal remains of the two migrant workers, who were killed in a granite quarry following a rockslide at Payyanamon near Konni in Pathanamthitta district, were sent to their respective native places on Friday.
Both bodies were sent from Nedumbassery airport on IndiGo 6E702 flight to Bhubaneswar.
Orissa-native Ajay Rai and Bihar-native Mahadev Pradhan died in the mishap on Monday. The autopsies were held at Pathanamthitta general hospital and embalmed at Kottayam medical college hospital.
While Pradhan's body was recovered the same evening, body of Rai, who was inside an excavator during the incident, was found after an over 30-hour-long search operation.
Earlier, Pathanamthitta district collector S Prem Krishnan said that the bodies of both workers would be taken to their respective native places at the earliest and the quarry owner would meet its expenses. He added that compensation to the families of the deceased persons would be ensured. A department-level meeting will be held regarding the functioning of the quarry, he said.
Action will be taken after a detailed probe, said Krishnan. Continuous rockslides delayed rescue operations , he added. TNN
