DoorDash driver saves Blackstone employee from NYC shooter Shane Tamura's rampage
The employee, who was working late, was heading down to the lobby when the delivery driver messaged her that there was a shooter in the lobby, according to The Wall Street Journal. The employee immediately rushed into a mother's room with several other colleagues to take shelter as the harrowing scene unfolded in the lobby of 345 Park Avenue.

The gunman, identified as Shane Tamura, entered the lobby of the Midtown Manhattan office building, which houses global investment powerhouse Blackstone, the National Football league and global professional services firm KPMG, and proceeded to gun down four people with an M4 assault rifle.
Fox Business reached out to DoorDash for comment.
Tamura, who has a history of mental illness, began his tirade in the lobby before proceeding to the 33rd floor by mistake, New York City Mayor Adams disclosed in interviews.

Tamura, a high school football player at Granada Hills Charter in Granada Hills, California, indicated he was suffering from chronic traumatic encephalopathy or CTE, according to Mayor Adams and other reports, citing his suicide note left in the building.

Blackstone employee, Wesley LePatner, who served as global head of Core+ Real Estate and the CEO of Blackstone Real Estate Income Trust, was among the victims. Rudin Management, which owns 345 Park Avenue and a slew of other trophy buildings in New York, also lost an employee. The company declined to identify the employee.

An NFL employee, who was leaving the office, was also hit and remains hospitalized.
Workers at the NFL, who operate out of the third floor, were told to work from home or take the day off, according to a memo from Commissioner Roger Goodell.

Here's what Wall Street experts are saying about Uber ahead of earnings
Uber (UBER) is scheduled to report results for its second fiscal quarter before the market opens on Wednesday, August 6, with a conference call scheduled for 8:00 am ET. EXPECTATIONS: During its last earnings conference call, Uber said that for Q2 2025, it anticipated Gross Bookings of $45.75B-$47.25B, representing growth of 16% to 20% year-over-year on a constant currency basis. Its outlook assumed a roughly 1.5 percentage point currency headwind to total reported year-over-year growth. Adjusted EBITDA of $2.02B-$2.12B, which represents 29% to 35% year-over-year growth. Current consensus EPS and revenue forecasts for Uber's Q2 stand at 62c and $12.47B, respectively, according to data from Yahoo Finance. BETTER THAN EXPECTED Q2: Last week, Stifel analyst Mark Kelley raised the firm's price target on Uber to $117 from $110 and kept a Buy rating on the shares. Heading into Q2 earnings season for the firm's e-commerce and consumer app coverage, the analyst notes that third-party data suggests a better Q2 than expected as the Trump administration has either struck more favorable deals or pushed out tariff implementation while waiting for deals. The firm says it was 'too conservative' in its models following 'liberation day' and raises some estimates among the group. POSITIVE TRENDS: Bernstein also raised the firm's price target on Outperform-rated Uber to $110 from $95. As the firm noted after the Q1 print, continued stability in Mobility and Delivery trends at Uber would be largely positive. Q2 data points are supportive, travel may have bottomed, and FX is less of a headwind looking forward. Considering the reinvestment mandate, Bernstein sees more upside to out-year estimates, as these efforts bolster GB growth. From here, upside likely lies more in Uber's ability to compound free cash flow than the multiple, though there remains a wide gap to DoorDash (DASH) – concrete data points around AV fragmentation are likely needed to drive multiple upside, the firm adds. Bernstein doesn't expect much to change on the AV front this quarter. Meanwhile, Roth Capital analyst Rohit Kulkarni raised the firm's price target on Uber to $110 from $93 and kept a Buy rating on the shares ahead of the Q2 report on August 6. The firm sees potential upside to Uber's Q2 bookings estimates but says buy-side expectations for Q3 guidance 'may cap' the stock's near-term opportunity. Roth remains a long-term holder of the stock and would be incremental buyers on weakness. The recent developments in robotaxis have benefited Uber's valuation multiple, the analyst tells investors in a research note. CONFIDENCE IN Q2 ESTIMATES: Keeping a Buy rating on the shares, Needham analyst Bernie McTernan raised the firm's price target on Uber to $109 from $100. According to the firm's mobility tracker, pricing is moving slightly higher q/q for Uber and Lyft (LYFT), and coupled with healthy demand data points, this gives the firm greater confidence in its Q2 estimates, the analyst tells investors in a research note. Tesla (TSLA) expanding their robotaxi footprint and Waymo potentially launching alone in Miami and DC could weigh on the multiple, but Uber's ability to compound bookings over the near term is less of a debate, the firm added. PARTNERSHIP: Last month, Lucid Group (LCID), Nuro and Uber announced a next-generation premium global robotaxi program created exclusively for the Uber ride-hailing platform. Expected to first launch later next year in a major U.S. city, the new robotaxi service combines the software-defined vehicle architecture of the Lucid Gravity, the scalability and capability of the Nuro Driver Level 4 autonomy system, and Uber's global network and fleet management. Uber aims to deploy 20,000 or more Lucid vehicles equipped with the Nuro Driver over six years. The vehicles will be owned and operated by Uber or its third-party fleet partners and made available to riders exclusively via the Uber platform. The first Lucid-Nuro robotaxi prototype is already operating autonomously on a closed circuit at Nuro's Las Vegas proving grounds. As part of a deepening relationship with each partner, Uber plans to make multi-hundred-million-dollar investments in both Nuro and Lucid.

Trump: Federalize D.C. and prosecute teens as adults
President Donald Trump says conditions in Washington, D.C., must be made okay by lowering crime rates and charging teens as adults to prevent the federal government from taking control of the capital. Photo by Samuel Corum/UPI | License Photo Aug. 5 (UPI) -- Washington, D.C., would become a federal district and prosecute teens as adults if crime in the nation's capital does not recede soon, President Donald Trump said on Tuesday. Youths and gangs in the capital are randomly targeting people for violent crimes due to a lack of law enforcement, Trump said in a Truth Social post. "Crime in Washington, D.C., is totally out of control," Trump said. "Local 'youths' and gang members ... are randomly attacking, mugging, maiming and shooting innocent citizens," he added, "at the same time knowing that they will be almost immediately released." He said local youths do not fear law enforcement "because they know nothing ever happens to them." Trump's post includes a photo of a young male who is bloodied and sitting on what appears to be an asphalt parking lot. "The most recent victim was beaten mercilessly by thugs," Trump said. "Washington, D.C., must be safe, clean and beautiful for all Americans and, importantly, for the world to see." He said the federal government would have no choice but to take control of the capital and "put criminals on notice." "Perhaps it should have been done a long time ago," Trump added, "and then this incredible young man, with so many others, would not have had to go through the horrors of violent crime." Trump did not reference the recent shooting deaths of a House intern or two Israel Embassy staffers in Washington, D.C. Despite such shooting deaths and other crimes in the nation's capital, local police reported a 35% reduction in crime in 2024, which set a 30-year low, The Hill reported. So far this year, reported crimes in Washington, D.C., are lower than in 2024, which would establish a new 30-year low if the trend continues. Trump and Washington, D.C., Mayor Muriel Bowser have met several times since the Nov. 5 election. The president has said he and the mayor have an amicable relationship, and in a March 28 executive order, created the D.C. Safe and Beautiful Task Force. That task force includes representatives from several federal agencies and federal law enforcement, who are tasked with cleaning up the city by working with local officials. Such efforts are to include removing homeless encampments, supporting law enforcement, removing threats to public safety and streamlining the process for residents to obtain concealed carry permits for firearms. Parks, monuments, structures, roadways and buildings are to be beautified by being restored and graffiti removed from commonly visited local areas, according to the executive order. The Washington, D.C., mayor's office did not respond to a UPI request for comment on Tuesday.
