Panthers HC Dave Canales reveals preseason plan for QB Bryce Young, starters
Head coach Dave Canales chatted with Kay Adams, host of Up & Adams, from the site of the team's training camp on Friday. Adams, when talking about the growing connection between quarterback Bryce Young and 2025 first-round pick Tetairoa McMillan, asked Canales if we'll get to see the starters during upcoming exhibition play.
"Absolutely," he replied. "My plan is to play a series or two with the starters for the first two preseason games. So, I'm excited to get them out there. It goes beyond just the reps in the game. It's the night before, it's the morning of, it's what you eat, it's how you mentally prepare, it's going through your process of body readiness going into the game. Those are valuable reps—as much as going out there actually playing the game.
"So, I'm excited to kinda throw that at the guys—especially some of the younger players, the rookies and all that. But certainly our starters, just playing together and feeling what that feels like to prep from the night before all the way going up to it."
That was not the case last summer, when Canales opted to hold much of his starters out from the first two preseason outings. The first-year head coach was questioned for that decision, especially after the Panthers were thoroughly thrashed in their regular-season opener against the New Orleans Saints.
Canales did roll out the first-team offense in their 2024 preseason finale against the Buffalo Bills. The brief outing saw Young complete six of his eight passes for 70 yards and a touchdown during an efficient 12-play scoring drive.
The Panthers will open up preseason play next Friday at 7:00 p.m. ET, when they host the Cleveland Browns from Bank of America Stadium.

Saints Play of the Day: Wil Lutz's 33-yard game winner over Carolina
The first game of the New Orleans Saints' 2025 season is now just 33 days away from kickoff. To continue our countdown to kickoff, this Wil Lutz game-winning field goal against the Carolina Panthers back in 2019 is our Saints Play of the Day. You can watch that play for yourself here. While the 2019 season did not end with smiles in New Orleans, the vibes were immaculate in the regular season. During this Week 12 matchup, the Saints were on their third-straight divisional game and still upset from a loss to the Atlanta Falcons two weeks prior. Drew Brees was back to full health, completing 30-of-39 passes for 311 yards with three touchdowns (and one interception, but who is counting those). Michael Thomas had his seventh 100-yard performance in just 11 games. Marcus Davenport even had a sack! Still, the win came down to the leg of Wil Lutz in the waning seconds of the day. Brees and the New Orleans offense got the ball back on their own 20-yard line with just 1:56 left on the clock after the Panthers missed a go-ahead field goal of their own. Two passes to Thomas and another to Alvin Kamara did most of the work to get the Saints down to the Carolina 15. Lutz came in clutch, per usual, and knocked through the game-winning 33-yard field goal. He would end up spending a couple more years in New Orleans, but is now back to kicking for Sean Payton with the Denver Broncos. He is coming off his best season in years, making 31 of his 34 field goal attempts and going perfect on his extra-point attempts.

Should the Raiders move Jamal Adams back to safety following Lonnie Johnson injury?
Also seeing some first-team LB snaps for Jamal Adams The Las Vegas Raiders lost starting safety Lonnie Johnson Jr. to a broken fibula at training camp. Johnson will now be sidelined for multiple months as a result. Head coach Pete Carroll is tasked with replacing the projected starter in his defensive lineup. The Raiders have various options. They could believe in the in-house solutions on the roster. General manager John Spytek could consider signing a veteran free-agent safety. Alternatively, one intriguing option includes moving linebacker Jamal Adams back to his former position at safety. The Raiders signed Adams, a former LSU standout, in late July. Carroll immediately announced that he'd be switching positions to linebacker. Most recently, Adams has even received first-team reps at linebacker during training camp practices. Though the Raiders could be tempted to move Adams back to safety following Johnson's injury, it would be a bad idea. Firstly, Adams is thriving at linebacker, and defensive coordinator Patrick Graham has been pleased with his acclimation. Secondly, the aging defender no longer possesses the athleticism required to play a coverage role at safety. Even at his best, the three-time Pro Bowl Adams was always better suited to defend near the line of scrimmage. Adams drives forward as an excellent tackler and blitzer. That was before the now-29-year-old suffered a string of injuries that limited his effectiveness, including a torn labrum, hip injury, and torn quad tendon. Signing Adams reunited him with Carroll, who coached him for four campaigns (2020-23) in Seattle. Moving to linebacker offers him an opportunity to extend his career after several anonymous seasons consecutively. The Raiders have new concerns at safety, but Adams isn't a solution.

Davante Adams is a top-10 WR in Madden 26, but Puka Nacua is not
On paper, the Los Angeles Rams appear to have one of the best wide receiver tandems in the NFL. Davante Adams joins Puka Nacua in Los Angeles as a top weapon for Matthew Stafford, looking to continue his reign as a premier wideout in football. The ratings gurus at EA Sports still view Adams as a star receiver because he has one of the highest overall ratings for a wideout in the game. Adams is a 90 overall in 'Madden NFL 26', which is the 10th-highest at his position, just behind Drake London (91). EA only revealed the top 10 players at each position on Thursday and Puka Nacua's name was noticeably absent from the list of receivers. While we don't yet know his initial rating, he isn't one of the 10 best wideouts. ESPN polled NFL executives, coaches and scouts from around the league this offseason and asked them to rank the top receivers for 2025. Nacua and Adams both fell outside the top 10, only earning recognition as honorable mentions. It seems both players are on the fringe of being top-10 receivers in the eyes of personnel evaluators around the NFL, as well as EA Sports' ratings experts. Nacua probably doesn't get as much praise as he deserves because he was injured last season, but he was third in the NFL in receiving yards per game (90.0) and nearly eclipsed 1,000 yards despite only playing 11 games. Adams is an established star at wide receiver but you could make the case that Nacua is in for a better season in 2025 if healthy. Whatever his initial Madden rating is, it should be on the rise throughout the year. This article originally appeared on Rams Wire: Madden 26 ratings: Davante Adams is a top-10 WR, Puka Nacua is not
