Watch: David Corenswet snuck into Philadelphia screening of 'Superman'
July 15 (UPI) -- Superman star David Corenswet says he snuck into an IMAX screening of his hit film in Philadelphia.
The actor, 32, discussed his decision to do so when he stopped by The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon Monday.
Corenswet said he felt self-conscious when he viewed the film for the first time at its premiere at the TCL Chinese Theatre in Los Angeles.
"So I snuck into the back of an IMAX screening... outside of Philly with a couple of friends," he said.
He added that by the end of the film, the audience felt like family because of their reactions to his character.
Corenswet then explained why he didn't watch the movie until its Los Angeles premiere.
"Usually, I watch a movie early if I'm nervous," he told Fallon. "I want to get my self-conscious viewing out of the way, early. But when I started seeing the trailers, I kind of got the feeling of what it might be to watch the movie as an audience member, and there was this uplifting energy and this feeling of inspiration. It feels like the movies that I grew up watching that I loved. So I wanted to preserve the experience."
The film grossed some $122 million over the weekend, becoming the No. 1 feature in North America.

SUPERMAN's Kiss Censored in India, Fans Slam 'Ridiculous' Move — GeekTyrant
James Gunn's Superman has run into unexpected turbulence in India, not for its explosive action, but for a kiss. India's Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) ordered cuts to two kissing scenes in the film, including the 33-second mid-air kiss between Superman and Lois Lane, citing them as 'overly sensual,' according to local reports. The edits were made to secure a UA (13+) rating ahead of its July 7 certification. As you might imagine, the decision has ignited backlash from fans and industry voices who see it as yet another example of India's inconsistent censorship practices. Actor Shreya Dhanwanthary ( Scam 1992, The Family Man ) didn't mince words, posting: 'If this is true, this is RIDICULOUS!!! Some ridiculous crap happens every day. Every. Damn. Day. Sure this is the least of our worries but is something done about anything else? There is some crap every day. Every. Damn. Day.' Film critic and digital creator Amol Jamwal echoed the frustration on X: 'You can have lewd double meaning jokes in Housefull 5. Beheadings & gory violence in Jaat But…. Superman kissing Lois Lane is where we draw the line.' Another user summed up the hypocrisy: 'CBFC would allow horrific scenes of violence and sexual assault in a U certified film that kids are freely allowed to watch, but won't allow consensual kissing in a U/A comic book movie that kids should watch under adult supervision.' This isn't an isolated case. Earlier this year, F1 had a middle-finger emoji swapped for a fist, and Thunderbolts* landed in India with muted expletives. These moves have reignited a long-running debate about censorship, morality, and the CBFC's sweeping powers under the Cinematograph Act. While the board's guidelines emphasize freedom of speech and expression, those rights are curtailed by 'reasonable restrictions' on grounds such as 'decency or morality.' The challenge for filmmakers is that these terms remain broad—and subjective. Adding to the frustration is the 2021 dissolution of the Film Certification Appellate Tribunal, which once provided an industry-level appeals process. Today, studios have only one option: pursue costly, time-consuming legal battles in India's high courts, a daunting prospect for international releases on strict global timelines. The Superman controversy now joins a growing list of creative clashes with censorship, sparking the question… where do we draw the line between cultural sensitivity and stifling creative freedom? The 10 Best DC Movies By Rotten Tomatoes Audience Score – Where's ‘Superman'?
Superman Superman is continuing to crush it at the box office, surpassing expectations and causing WB to rave about this bold new Gunn-led era of the DCU. Critics liked the film, and fans seem to love it. Tens of thousands of reviews have poured in, and I thought it was time for a bit of a breakdown of how Superman has stacked up against other DC films, both in the DCEU, pre-DCEU and way, way in the past, before cinematic universes were really a thing. Where does Superman fall on a list like this? For superhero films, I'm going to choose to use the audience score metric on Rotten Tomatoes, as I think that's the big indicator of a well-liked film. So, here's the top 10: 1) The Dark Knight – 94% audience score, 94% critic score 2) Batman Begins –94% audience score, 85% critic score 3) Superman (2025) – 93% audience score, 83% critic score 4) Zack Snyder's Justice League – 92% audience score, 71% critic score 5) The Dark Knight Rises – 90% audience score, 87% critic score 6) Joker – 89% audience score, 68% critic score 7) The Batman – 87% audience score, 85% critic score 8) Superman: The Movie – 86% audience, score 88% critic score 9) Batman – 84% audience score, 77% critic score 10) Wonder Woman – 83% audience score, 93% critic score Bonus: Shazam!/The Suicide Squad – 82% audience score Superman I believe I'm not missing any, but I will adjust if so. As you can see, it's pretty stunning. Superman has suddenly become the third highest-scored movie in DC history, according to audiences, behind only Chris Nolan's famed Dark Knight and Batman Begins. Three points above The Dark Knight Rises. And hey, credit to Snyder superfans for getting his Justice League cut to 92% (but I mean, that's generous). Superman's modern day counterpart, The Batman, has also made it to the list. The highest DCEU films besides Snyder JLA are Wonder Woman and Shazam!, the latter of which is tied with James Gunn's own Suicide Squad sequel, which did terribly at the box office but audiences enjoyed it. No, Superman is not the ultra-tops in terms of critic score and will probably not be for box office (if I had to guess), but it's still an unequivocal success and there is really not much else WB could have hoped for, especially coming off a pretty bad string of projects in the DCEU, where that whole experiment was close to a failure. But the DCU is starting strong and led by its biggest hero. Now, we'll see how Supergirl fares next. Follow me on Twitter, YouTube, Bluesky and Instagram. The Summer I Turned Pretty's Lola Tung Reveals Taylor Swift's Gesture Made Her ‘Nearly' Pass Out
The Summer I Turned Pretty star Lola Tung recently shared a moment that had her fangirling, and it involved Taylor Swift. While promoting her show alongside co-stars Christopher Briney and Gavin Casalegno, Tung recalled an unforgettable Eras Tour experience that nearly made her 'pass out' from excitement. Appearing on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on July 15, Lola Tung revealed that during the 2023 stop of Taylor Swift's Eras Tour, she found herself right by the stage with The Summer I Turned Pretty co-creator Jenny Han. The actress lit up while recounting what happened when Swift noticed her and her friends. 'She looked at us, and she kind of waved and was like, 'I love you guys,'' Tung said, demonstrating the heart-hand gesture the pop icon directed at them. 'I nearly passed out. It was great,' she added. Fans of The Summer I Turned Pretty will recognize the interconnectedness of this moment, not just for Tung as a Swiftie, but because Swift's music has been part of the show since Season 1. As the actress said, 'We were right by the stage when she played 'False God,' which was also on the show.' When Fallon asked Tung to name her favorite Swift track that featured in the series, she admitted it was a tough choice. ''The Way I Loved You' is a great one. 'Delicate' is great as well,' she said. In an earlier interview with People, Tung expressed how much Swift's music meant to her even before the show. 'I used to listen to Fearless, Speak Now, and Red on my CD player when I was younger. When I would go to sleep, I would listen to them,' she stated. With the third and final season of The Summer I Turned Pretty premiering July 16 on Prime Video, fans can expect more Taylor Swift tracks to be part of the story. The trailer alone features 'Daylight' from Lover and a title track from Red.
