ABU DHABI (ALETIHAD)Sanad, a global leader in aerospace engineering and leasing solutions wholly owned by Abu Dhabi's sovereign investor Mubadala Investment Company PJSC (Mubadala), today announced an expansion of its existing offload agreement with GE Aerospace and Safran Aircraft Engines for the maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) provider for CFM International LEAP engines. As such, this marks a major milestone in Sanad's growth as a full-capability service provider, strengthening its global presence and reinforcing its growing influence as a trusted partner of the global aerospace industry. Since 2023, Sanad has been performing maintenance visits for LEAP-1A and LEAP-1B engines with over 35 shop visits already completed. The company is also on track to achieve full in-house testing capabilities for both engine variants by the fourth quarter of 2025, a key milestone that will enable Sanad to conduct comprehensive overhauls, validate engine performance, and deliver faster, more streamlined services. Under the new agreement, Sanad will expand its services to include full overhaul capabilities for both LEAP-1A and LEAP-1B engines, further enhancing its end-to-end MRO offering for the LEAP platform. This expansion comes at a time of significant growth in the narrow-body aircraft segment, which is expected to represent over 75% of the future global commercial fleet. The LEAP engine powers two of the most in-demand aircraft in this category: the Boeing 737 MAX and Airbus A320neo families. Sanad's enhanced LEAP engine capabilities will provide comprehensive lifecycle support for this rapidly expanding engine fleet. With overhaul, repair, and testing services delivered from its advanced facilities in Abu Dhabi, Sanad is positioned to meet the evolving needs of global airlines, supporting engine availability, optimizing turnaround times, and reinforcing the UAE's leadership in high-value aerospace services.'This milestone reflects Sanad's unwavering commitment to quality, innovation, technical expertise and outstanding service excellence,' said Mansoor Janahi, Managing Director and Group CEO of Sanad. 'Our expanded collaboration with GE Aerospace and Safran Aircraft Engines strengthens our long-standing partnership while advancing the UAE's ambition to be a global center for aerospace technology and industrial advancement.''Sanad is demonstrating its ability to deliver world-class MRO services,' said Alan Kelly, General Manager of CFM LEAP Engine Services at GE Aerospace. 'Not only will Middle Eastern carriers benefit from local capability, but the broader MRO ecosystem will also benefit from the additional capacity.' 'Sanad's work addresses rising demand for LEAP-powered aircraft and associated engine maintenance,' said Nicolas Potier, Vice President of Support & Services for Safran Aircraft Engines. 'This collaboration shows how the MRO ecosystem for LEAP engines continues to growth and mature.' To support this expansion, Sanad will invest in infrastructure, new tooling, equipment, and operational capabilities. These enhancements will be implemented within Sanad's existing MRO and test cell facilities in Abu Dhabi and are expected to create 140 new jobs, with a strong focus on Emiratization and national workforce development in line with the company's long-term goals.
By 2027, Sanad will be fully equipped to perform complete overhaul and testing services for all LEAP engine offloads under this agreement, further solidifying its role as a trusted MRO partner for the global aviation industry and contributing to the UAE's broader ambitions for industrial growth and global aerospace leadership.

Indonesia offers to cut duties on US goods, buy $500mln of wheat in tariff talks

Indonesia has offered to cut duties on key imports from the United States to "near zero" and to buy $500 million worth of U.S. wheat as part of its tariff talks with Washington, its lead negotiator and a wheat industry association said on Friday. Chief economics minister Airlangga Hartarto, who is Indonesia's lead negotiator, also confirmed that state carrier Garuda Indonesia would buy more Boeing planes as part of a $34 billion pact with U.S. partners due to be signed next week. Indonesia, which ran a goods trade surplus of $17.9 billion with the United States in 2024 according to the U.S. Trade Representative, is facing a 32% tariff in U.S. markets and has proposed increasing U.S. imports to facilitate trade talks between the two sides. Airlangga said the Indonesian government has offered to cut tariffs on key American exports, including agricultural products, to near-zero from between 0% and 5% at present. "It will be near zero (tariffs for U.S. main exports), but it will depend as well on how much the tariffs we get from the U.S.," Airlangga said. Garuda's CEO has said it is in discussions with U.S. Boeing to buy up to 75 units of aircraft. Garuda group did not respond to requests for comment on Friday. The wheat purchases are also part of next week's pact with U.S. partners. The chairman of Indonesia's wheat flour mills association, Franciscus Welirang, said its "members will purchase two million tons in total through tenders with a competitive price." "The point is all of the members will buy U.S. wheat," Welirang, who is also a director at Indofood, told Reuters. The U.S. counterparts in the wheat deal include Cargill , Bunge Global SA, Pacificor, Archer-Daniels-Midland, Columbia Grain International, and United Grain Corporation, Welirang added. U.S. exports to Indonesia include soybeans, petroleum gases and aircraft, Indonesian government data showed. When asked whether the trade talks include military deals, Airlangga said they were "not part of the negotiation". Susiwijono Moegiarso, a senior official with Indonesia's Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs, told Reuters that in return, Jakarta has asked the United States for preferential tariffs on its main exports, including electronics, textiles and footwear. "We want them to lower the tariffs (for those goods) as low as possible," he said. Indonesia has also offered the United States opportunities to invest in critical minerals projects, including in the country's abundant resources of copper, nickel and bauxite. Tech Titans Seek Offshore Yuan Stablecoin Approval

JD. com and Ant Group have formally submitted proposals to the People's Bank of China seeking approval for yuan-pegged stablecoin issuance, marking a key step in Beijing's efforts to internationalise its currency. Ant Group is also preparing licence applications in Hong Kong and Singapore to deploy offshore renminbi stablecoins beyond mainland China. The push comes after the Hong Kong legislature enacted a stablecoin licensing framework on 21 May 2025, with regulations taking effect from August. Under the new rules, issuers of Hong Kong dollar–referenced digital tokens must secure authorisation from the Hong Kong Monetary Authority. JD. com has suggested beginning issuance in Hong Kong before piloting operations in Chinese free-trade zones—a phased approach that has been met with encouraging feedback from regulators. The strategic backdrop for this development includes a decline in the yuan's share of global payments to 2.89% in May—the lowest in nearly two years—while dollar-pegged stablecoins control approximately 99% of the market. Former Bank of China deputy head Wang Yongli cautioned that unless yuan-based solutions gain traction, China could risk lagging behind if cross-border payments remain less efficient than dollar-denominated cryptocurrency options. ADVERTISEMENT Ant Group's global strategy is already in motion. Ant International aims to apply for licences under the new Hong Kong regime from 1 August, and then proceed to Singapore and Luxembourg. Meanwhile, JD. com intends to seek approvals in multiple major currency jurisdictions, citing ambitions to reduce cross-border settlement costs by up to 90% and speed up transaction times to under 10 seconds. Hong Kong's stablecoin ordinance emphasizes reserve management, redemptions and robust risk controls, operating on the principle of 'same activity, same risks, same regulation'. The region's new LEAP framework is designed to nurture asset tokenisation and stablecoin issuance, compelling global players to participate. Remaining constraints on audience trust and onshore–offshore integration persist. China's strict capital controls may hinder scalable adoption of offshore yuan stablecoins, and questions remain over transparency in reserve backing, redemption mechanisms, and potential surveillance—echoing critiques levelled against e‑CNY, China's domestic central bank digital currency. Nonetheless, analysts argue that successfully launching an offshore yuan stablecoin could enhance digital renminbi's global footprint without conflicting with mainland crypto restrictions. It would offer exporters an alternative to dollar-linked tokens and deepen the yuan's digital payment infrastructure. President Trump's support for dollar-pegged stablecoin regulation in the United States has accelerated momentum overseas. China's tech giants appear intent on ensuring the yuan remains a competitive currency in the next-generation digital economy. Key stakeholders, including Morgan Stanley and Crypto HK, suggest that Hong Kong could function as a vital testbed, providing a bridge between mainland policy and the global crypto market. With licence windows opening this August and multi-jurisdictional applications in progress, the ball is now in the court of global financial regulators. Approval of these proposals could mark a significant shift in digital finance, elevating the yuan's status in the evolving ecosystem of global trade and finance.

Boeing secures $2.8bln US satellite contract

Boeing Co said on Thursday it had secured a $2.8 billion U.S. contract to develop and produce two satellites with options for two more. The Evolved Strategic Satellite Communications (ESS) program will deliver space-based nuclear, command, control, and communications for the U.S. president and joint strategic global forces. Boeing is set to deliver the first of two space vehicles by 2031. When deployed in geostationary orbit, the ESS will provide persistent coverage to strategic warfighters worldwide.
