Australian top order wobbles once more against West Indies quicks
Following a promising opening stand of 47 the two openers fell within three deliveries.
Usman Khawaja was trapped leg-before by Joseph. Sam Konstas drove at Anderson Phillip, playing his first Test for 18 months, to offer wicketkeeper Shai Hope a straightforward catch.
Smith, who missed the first Test while recovering from the finger injury sustained in the World Test Championship Final at Lord's three weeks earlier, promptly miscued a pull at Joseph which was held by Phillip inches from the long-leg boundary.
Travis Head, "Man of the Match" in Australia's 159-run win in Barbados the previous week, then joined Cameron Green. The pair had taken Australia almost to lunch when Green fell for 26 to Jayden Seales via a catch at gully by West Indies captain Roston Chase.
Head was unbeaten on 17 at the break.
Both teams had made one change from the first Test.
Phillip replaced left-arm spinner Jomel Warrican for West Indies. Smith came in at the expense of Josh Inglis.
Former West Indies captain Kraigg Brathwaite is playing his 100th Test match, the tenth West Indian to reach that landmark.

Brathwaite out for nought in 100th Test before West Indies rebuild
Looking to give the home side a solid platform on a two-paced pitch, the former captain's mistimed drive in the second over of the day offered Josh Hazlewood a low return catch which the seamer gleefully accepted. West Indies' second wicket also fell by the caught-and-bowled route, although it required Pat Cummins to sprint forward and dive almost to the forward short-leg position to come up with an excellent catch after Keacy Carty inside-edged a delivery onto his pad to offer the Australian captain the chance. Brathwaite's opening partner John Campbell continued to play positively to keep the score ticking along. However, as so often happens with the Jamaican left-hander, he could not resist the temptation for the injudicious shot and an attempted lofted drive at Beau Webster resulted in his demise for 40 via a simple catch at mid-on by Mitchell Starc. At 64 for three, and with the memory of their second innings capitulation in the first Test in Barbados still fresh, West Indies found some counter-attacking resistance to the interval in the shape of Brandon King (39 not out) and captain Roston Chase (16 not out) and will seek to continue the effort into the afternoon on a sweltering day in the Grenadian capital.

Porecki back for Wallabies with Wilson captain against Fiji
In their only game before three Tests against the British and Irish Lions, Porecki will bed down in an experienced front row alongside veterans James Slipper and Allan Alaalatoa. It marks a remarkable comeback for the 32-year-old hooker, who was sidelined for most of 2024 with a bad Achilles issue after leading the side at the World Cup in France. Nick Frost and Jeremy Williams reignite their second-row partnership. Wilson keeps the captain's armband, directing operations from the back of the scrum with Fraser McReight and Langi Gleeson on flanker duties. Regular flanker Rob Valetini -- arguably Australia's best player -- and giant lock Will Skelton were nowhere to be seen in the matchday squad. They are both reportedly battling calf injuries in a worry ahead of the Lions series starting in Brisbane on July 19. Tate McDermott will start as scrum-half while first-choice Jake Gordon deals with a hamstring niggle, with Nic White on the bench and Noah Lolesio at flyhalf. The ever-consistent Len Ikitau partners dynamic Joseph-Aukuso Suaalii in midfield, while Max Jorgensen returns from an ankle injury on the left wing, Harry Potter will be on the right wing and Tom Wright at fullback. "The whole squad has worked hard on and off the field and reconnected well with a short runway from our assembly through to the Test on Sunday against Fiji," said head coach Joe Schmidt. "I think the players and the wider management are keen to get underway, especially in front of a big crowd in Newcastle, as we kick off an exciting but incredibly demanding 2025 Test match schedule." Australia (15-1): Tom Wright; Harry Potter, Joseph-Aukuso Suaalii, Len Ikitau, Max Jorgensen; Noah Lolesio, Tate McDermott; Harry Wilson (capt), Fraser McReight, Langi Gleeson; Jeremy Williams, Nick Frost; Allan Alaalatoa, David Porecki, James Slipper

Australian top order wobbles once more against West Indies quicks
Alzarri Joseph claimed two wickets, including Steve Smith, as the tourists, who made poor starts in both innings of the first Test, lost three wickets for three runs midway through the session after captain Pat Cummins opted to bat first.
