Cops nab 528 for drunk driving
The Traffic Police conducted a focused campaign against drunk driving over the weekend. According to Cyberabad traffic police, the police on weekends had been organising a special large-scale drive by deputing teams to keep a check on drunk driving.
During the drive, of total 528, as many as 391 were two-wheeler drivers, 22 three-wheeler drivers, 113 four-wheeler drivers and 2 heavy vehicles. Police said 44 offenders were found with blood alcohol concentrations (BAC) ranging between 200 mg/100 ml and 550 mg/100 ml. The RC Puram zone reported the highest cases with 94 followed by Miyapur (65), Gachibowli (48), and Narsingi with 46 cases respectively.Of total, the highest offenders were the age between 21-30 with 218 offenders followed by 175 caught were of age group 31-40 years and 98 offenders of 41-50 years old. All apprehended individuals will be presented before the Court.
The police urged the citizens that if anybody indulges in driving under the influence of alcohol and causes accidents resulting in fatalities, such persons will be arrested and charged under Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (culpable homicide not amounting to murder), which carries a maximum sentence of up to 10 years in jail along with a fine, said the police officer.

Agency: PTI Last Updated: Lucknow, Jul 21 (PTI) Three men were arrested in Uttar Pradesh's Muzaffarnagar district on Monday in connection with an alleged conspiracy to spread communal tensions and perpetrate a terror attack, police said in a statement. Since Muzaffarnagar is a 'sensitive district" and the Kanwar Yatra is going on, a close watch is being kept on the social media and information is being collected from a security point of view, police added. 'In this regard, Kakrauli police station (in Muzaffarnagar) got information that some people in Kakrauli village are making a horrific, dangerous and sensational video and audio viral on the Kakrauli Yuva Ekta WhatsApp group, in which bodies of women and small children are shown lying soaked in blood in a house," the statement said. 'In the audio clip, it is being said that the video is from near Mansoorpur Tharak Nagla in Moradabad district, where some people of Bajrang Dal are entering Muslim houses, killing people and not sparing anyone, be it young or old, women or children," it added. It was also being said in the audio that Muslims are being killed in this way in many villages and an appeal was made to make the video viral by sharing it as much as possible, the statement said. A team from the Kakrauli police station arrested the three men for allegedly sharing the misleading audio and video on social media and a case was registered against them under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and Information Technology Act. Station Officer (SO), Kakrauli police station, Joginder Singh told PTI that Nadeem (25), Rahees (35) and Mansher (45) had shared the said video and audio clips in different WhatsApp groups. Nadeem is a vegetable vendor and labourer and Rahees sells clothes and utensils. Both of them had studied up to Class 5, while Mansher, a junk dealer, had studied up to Class 6. 'Following detailed interrogation of Nadeem, Rahees and Mansher, and an analysis of the evidence, it came to light that prima facie, this viral video is of an incident from April 2024, which had taken place in Muzaffargarh district of Pakistan, where a man killed his wife and seven children by chopping them with an axe," the statement said. It added that the video was circulated as part of a 'well-planned" conspiracy to incite the members of a particular community in Moradabad district to carry out terror incidents in western Uttar Pradesh. 'Their intention was to spread communal hatred among people, so that people get attracted towards the ideology of extremism and terrorism, and by inciting innocent people, social harmony can be spoiled, dissatisfaction towards the nation can be created and a major terrorist incident can be carried out," the statement said. Their intention was also to incite people and carry out a 'lone wolf" terror attack, it added. As part of the conspiracy, this video and audio clips were made viral in many WhatsApp groups that have members from a particular community in several districts of western Uttar Pradesh. A detailed technical forensic evaluation of the mobile phones seized from the arrested accused will be done and on the basis of the evidence, all the people involved in the 'forward" and 'backward linkages" in the conspiracy will be identified and strict legal action taken against them, the statement said. 'On the basis of the evidence available till now, this was a very big criminal conspiracy, in which the involvement of some anti-social elements, anti-national organisations, terrorist organisations and Pakistani agencies cannot be ruled out," it said, adding that due to the prompt police action, a 'very big anti-national conspiracy has failed". Three mobile phones have been seized from the possession of the arrested men. According to police, the WhatsApp groups in which the clips were reportedly shared by the arrested accused are — Khidmat Abbasi Group (of Meerut, with around 450 members), Proud Indian Muslims (of Moradabad, with around 450 members), Muslim Samaj Zindabad (of Muzaffarnagar, with around 150 members), All India Employed Group (around 850 members) and Kakrauli Yuva Ekta (of Muzaffarnagar, with around 150 members). ‘Objectionable' Ganesh idols lead to case against 3 artisans in Indore after Bajrang Dal worker's complaint
Three artisans were booked in Indore for allegedly creating 'objectionable' Ganesh idols for upcoming festivities, police said on Monday. The three idol makers, Chandranath Pal, Ratanlal Pal and Raju Pal, who were booked under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita section 299 (deliberate act intended to outrage religious feelings), following a complaint lodged by a Bajrang Dal worker at Khajrana police station, police said. The three make idols on demand at a facility near Bengali Square. The Bajrang Dal worker's complaint claimed that objectionable idols of Lord Ganesh were being made in the Khajrana area on the demand of some customers. 'We immediately registered an FIR against the three sculptors. Preventive action is also underway,' Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police Amrendra Singh said. The administration will hold a meeting with all idol makers in the city to ensure such incidents are not repeated, the officer said. Some videos being shared on social media purportedly showed the accused having their faces blackened by some people outside a police station. Bajrang Dal district convener Lucky Raghuvanshi said, 'Members of the Hindu community blackened their faces to protest against the creation of such idols. One idol showed Lord Ganesh walking the ramp, while another showed him lifting a woman in his arms.' Police said the accused hail from West Bengal and are traditional idol makers. Sculptor Atul Pal, who has worked with the accused idol makers, said the idols were ordered by customers from the adjoining Dewas district after having got the idea from images on social media. Drunken driving cases: Air blank test on breathalyser mandatory, rules Kerala high court
Kochi: Kerala high court has held that it is mandatory to conduct an air blank test on a breathalyser and ensure that the calibration is at 'zero' before taking breath samples in cases. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The court observed that conducting an air blank test and confirming a reading of '0.000' ensures that the device is not influenced by any residual alcohol from previous tests. Justice V G Arun, who issued the ruling, also directed the state police chief to issue necessary instructions to officers to strictly follow this procedure, noting that many policemen are unaware of the requirement. The bench was considering a petition filed by a Thiruvananthapuram native seeking to quash a case registered against him for rash and negligent driving under the influence of alcohol. The police had intercepted the petitioner on Medical College-Kumarapuram Road at 8.30pm on Dec 30, 2024, and booked him under section 281 (rash driving) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with sections 181 (driving under the influence of alcohol) and 181 (driving without a valid licence) of the . According to prosecution, the breathalyser test showed an alcohol level of 41 mg/100 ml, exceeding the permissible limit of 30 mg/100 ml. However, the reading of the air blank test was 412 mg/100 ml. HC noted that an air blank test is essential to check for residual alcohol before taking a person's breath sample. The primary purpose of the test is to ensure that the breathalyser is functioning properly and is not contaminated by previous tests. In this case, since the air blank test result was not '0.000', the court held that there was no acceptable evidence regarding the petitioner's blood alcohol level, and therefore, section 185 of the Motor Vehicles Act (drunken driving) would not be attracted. HC also noted that since the petitioner had a valid licence, section 181 of the Motor Vehicles Act was not applicable. However, the court rejected the challenge to the charge under section 281 of the BNS for rash driving, stating that whether the petitioner rode the scooter in a manner endangering human life is a matter to be decided based on evidence at trial.
