Auckland Wins Intelligent Transport Conference
The conference is expected to generate more than 3000 visitor nights in Auckland, supporting local hotels, retailers and the wider hospitality and tourism sector.
Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland will host the 21st Asia-Pacific Intelligent Transport Systems Forum (AP ITS) in 2027, a three-day event focused on advancing the future of intelligent transport solutions.
The forum will take place from 5 to 7 May 2027 at the New Zealand International Convention Centre (NZICC), bringing more than 1000 delegates and an estimated $1.27 million in economic benefit to the region.
The bid was led by Intelligent Transport Systems New Zealand (ITSNZ) with support from Tātaki Auckland Unlimited's Auckland Convention Bureau and Tourism New Zealand Business Events. It received high-level endorsement from New Zealand Prime Minister, the Rt Hon Christopher Luxon; Mayor of Auckland Wayne Brown; and New Zealand Transport Agency Chair Simon Bridges.

'We are very pleased to secure the hosting rights for this important international forum in 2027. The forum will showcase how the right policy and technology can address New Zealand's transport challenges – making the system safer, more equitable, sustainable and productive. The forum will also create opportunities for local innovators, attract international investment and deliver significant economic benefits.'
With the theme Navigating Tomorrow: Advancing Intelligent Transport Together, the event will spotlight key technology-enabled developments in Auckland's transport network – including AI-powered network optimisation for roads and public transport, the City Rail Link, new electric ferries and Australasia's largest all-electric bus depot.
Technical tours and demonstrations will include the University of Auckland Transportation Research Centre, a leader in dynamic wireless inductive charging, and ERoad, developers of New Zealand's nationwide electronic Road User Charges System.
Ken Pereira, Head of Business Events at Tātaki Auckland Unlimited, the region's cultural agency which attracts business events to the region on behalf of Auckland Council, says:

Dalton Tagelagi: Niue on course to achieve its renewable energy goals

Speaking on PMN Niue , Tagelagi says reaching the target will reap many benefits for the nation, which sits 68 metres above sea level at its highest point. "We will be reaching that target with 80 percent renewable energy, and that means it will save us a lot in fossil fuel," Tagelagi says. "Fossil fuel is one of the main contributors to climate change, and that means that will factor in as part of our national determined contribution towards the Paris Agreement." Niue is currently hosting the Niue National Energy Summit 2025 in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). The Summit brings together government leaders, MPs, village councils, private sector players, development partners and community stakeholders to co-develop a shared vision for Niue's energy future and set priorities for the next Energy Roadmap through to 2035. This is the second Energy Summit, following the 2015 summit, which set the target of achieving 80 per cent renewable energy by 2025. Last year, during a visit to Niue, Aotearoa, New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon announced an investment of $20.5 million in a new, large-scale project aimed at helping the island nation achieve its renewable energy target. Tagelagi says that greater funding commitments for Small Island Developing States are needed, a sentiment echoed by many leaders during last year's Conference of the Parties in Azerbaijan. "Everyone was calling for at least US$39 billion (NZ$65b) annually to support adaptation across all small island development states," Tagelagi says. Reflecting on last month's United Nations Ocean Conference, Tagelagi says Niue is gaining international traction due to homegrown initiatives, such as when the nation declared its entire Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) a Multiple-Use Marine Park under the Nukutulea Framework in 2022. Niue is one of the few countries worldwide with 100 percent of its ocean space legally managed and marks the second largest no-take Marine Protected Area by EEZ percentage globally. "The world's keeping an eye on it because of how it was structured or how the initiative and thing is," Tagelagi says.
