2025 Chiefs game-by-game predictions: Can they keep the dynasty alive?

Fox News04-06-2025
The Kansas City Chiefs went to a third straight Super Bowl last season, a first for a franchise in NFL history, but they enter 2025 with a chip on their shoulder. Their embarrassing 40-22 Super Bowl LIX loss to the Philadelphia Eagles served as an emphatic reminder of the work that must be done to keep their dynasty alive.
Big picture, the Chiefs are still the team to beat in the AFC. They still have coach Andy Reid and quarterback Patrick Mahomes. The offense will feature a healthier skill group in the new season, too. But they have an imposing first-place schedule, including a Super Bowl rematch with the Eagles in Week 2, as well as tough games against the Baltimore Ravens, Detroit Lions and Buffalo Bills.
Here are our game-by-game predictions for the Chiefs:
When they kick off in São Paulo, Brazil, don't be surprised to see a motivated Chiefs team to start 2025. They've won seven straight against the AFC West-rival Chargers, too.
Result: Win, 1-0 record
Kansas City avenges its Super Bowl loss, showcasing improved play in the trenches (on both sides of the ball) and at wide receiver with a healthy Rashee Rice and fully integrated Hollywood Brown.
Result: Win, 2-0
New York's defense, which adds No. 3 overall pick Abdul Carter to a deep pass-rushing group, could be a force to be reckoned with. But it won't be able to slow the Chiefs' offense down enough for its own offense to keep up.
Result: Win, 3-0
The Ravens get back at the Chiefs, who won the regular-season opener between the teams last season. Kansas City could have issues against Baltimore's ascendant defense, which became a truly elite unit at the end of last season after a rough start under first-year coordinator Zach Orr.
Result: Loss, 3-1
Even with Travis Hunter in the fold at cornerback for Jacksonville, it's hard to imagine that last season's NFL-worst pass defense will be able to adequately slow down Mahomes & Co.
Result: Win, 4-1
A Trent McDuffie-led secondary will have a chance to prove itself against quarterback Jared Goff and a potent group of Detroit pass-catchers.
Result: Win, 5-1
Las Vegas' offense is expected to run through rookie running back Ashton Jeanty, who could have a challenging day against the Kansas City front. The Chiefs ranked eighth in run defense in 2024.
Result: Win, 6-1
With star quarterback Jayden Daniels in his second season and the Commanders' revamped supporting cast, Washington looks like a true Super Bowl contender. Kansas City learns that the hard way at home.
Result: Loss, 6-2
The Chiefs may have the Bills' number in the playoffs, but not in the regular season, where Kansas City has lost four straight to Buffalo. A motivated Bills team makes that five straight, playing in front of their home fans.
Result: Loss, 6-3
A road game in-division is never easy, but the Chiefs get two weeks to prepare for the rival Broncos. Reid also has a 22-4 record (.846) in the game following a bye, dating back to his time coaching the Eagles.
Result: Win, 7-3
The Colts are poised to be a tough out this season, between their revamped defense and Jonathan Taylor-led rushing attack. But Steve Spagnuolo's defense should be able to exploit Indianapolis' weaknesses at quarterback, whether Anthony Richardson Sr. or Daniel Jones is on the field.
Result: Win, 8-3
On a short week, the Chiefs fall to the Cowboys in a Thanksgiving stunner. Kansas City has its hands full covering CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens.
Result: Loss, 8-4
The Texans' new-look offensive line is a bit underwhelming on paper. The likes of George Karlaftis and Chris Jones figure to get plenty of pressure on quarterback C.J. Stroud, like they did in last season's divisional round, when the Chiefs sacked Houston's QB eight times.
Result: Win, 9-4
The Chiefs sweep the Chargers for the third year in a row.
Result: Win, 10-4
Even with No. 1 overall pick Cam Ward offering hope at quarterback, the Titans are at least one year away from competing with upper-echelon teams.
Result: Win, 11-4
In their second Thursday game of the season, the Chiefs fall to the Broncos on Christmas, splitting the season series with Denver for the third year in a row.
Result: Loss, 11-5
Kansas City gets a much-needed victory to end the regular season, sweeping Las Vegas for the second consecutive year.
Result: Win
While the Chiefs' vulnerabilities were exposed in their Super Bowl loss last season, they still got to the Super Bowl. They're the three-time reigning AFC champions — and they'll be healthier around Mahomes in 2025, on top of having a chip on their shoulder. Having the Eagles, Ravens, Lions and Commanders at home in their gauntlet of a schedule is a major plus, too. Reaching 15 regular-season wins for a second straight year will be a challenge, but the Chiefs should be in the mix for the AFC's No. 1 seed once again.
Final record prediction: 12-5

OL Will Hernandez visits Arizona Cardinals

Could Hernandez be returning to the Cardinals in 2025? Former Arizona Cardinals offensive lineman Will Hernandez could possibly become a current Arizona Cardinals offensive lineman. According to the NFL transaction report on Monday, Hernandez had a visit with the Cardinals. Hernandez spent the last three seasons as the team's starting right guard. He played in only five games last season, tearing is ACL against the San Francisco 49ers. His contract expired and has not signed a deal with any team since becoming a free agent. He recently announced that he has been fully cleared medically to play football. The Cardinals never reassigned the No. 76 he wore for three seasons, even though their sixth-round draft pick, guard Hayden Conner, wore it all through college. Clearly, the door has been open. Hernandez will be 30 years old before the season begins. The Cardinals appear to be happy with second-year guard Isaiah Adams as the starting right guard. The question is whether Hernandez would be willing to sign a deal to return and not be assured a starting role. Even in a reserve role, considering how injuries impact teams, having someone of his ability on the bench would be great for the team's depth. Having him on the roster would allow the Cardinals to hedge against injury or Adams not playing well. We will see if anything official happens, or if the Cardinals used this visit for a potential move down the line. Kelce's partner, Maureen Anne Maguire, died on Aug. 1 at age 74NEED TO KNOW Ed Kelce shared a throwback photo with Taylor Swift and his girlfriend Maureen Anne Maguire as he mourned her death on Aug. 1 at age 74 The photo, which was shared on Maureen's obituary page, featured the smiling trio decked out in Kansas City Chiefs merchandise Ed previously opened up about meeting Swift with Maureen, and previously recalled a funny interaction the three had togetherEd Kelce is looking back on sweet photos from the past as he mourns the death of his girlfriend, Maureen Anne Maguire. The father of Travis, 35, and Jason Kelce, 37, shared a throwback picture of himself posing with Taylor Swift and Maguire, who died on Aug. 1 at age 74. Uploaded to her obituary page, the image pictured Ed and Maureen smiling alongside Travis' girlfriend Swift. The trio are decked out in Kansas City Chiefs attire in support of the star tight end's team. Swift, who wore a Chiefs crewneck sweatshirt, is seen holding up a friendship bracelet in one hand and a card that reads "Taylor Swift" in the other. Ed and Maureen, who were standing next to the pop superstar in the photo, wore jerseys with Travis' number 87 on them. In February 2024, Ed shared in an interview with the Los Angeles Times how Maureen had been getting to know Swift. He revealed a funny interaction between the pair shortly after they met. While Swift, 35, was posing for a picture with Ed, Maureen joked, "Hey, that's my boyfriend," to which the singer laughed. In January 2024, Ed revealed on Audacy's 92.3 The Fan in Cleveland how he couldn't recall Swift's name during an early interaction at Travis' home and Maguire had to remind him of who she was. "When Travis has a lot of friends coming into town to go to the game, everyone meets at his house, although he's not there,' Ed said on the show, noting that there can often be up to 20 people there before a home game. 'They have a shuttle that comes and picks everybody up and takes them to the game," said Ed, who went on to say that he had probably met some of those in attendance "but cannot for the life of me picture, remember who they are." "And Taylor comes in, walks in with a security guard and I look at her ... and I had my girlfriend with me and I mention to Maureen, 'Oh, my God, I know this kid but I don't know what her name is.' Geez, you know, like a real idiot,' he shared. Maureen then said to him, he recalled, "'You don't know her? This is Taylor Swift, you idiot.' " On Aug. 2, Ed announced the news that Maureen had died by sharing a link to an obituary on his personal Facebook page. According to the obituary, Maureen "passed away peacefully surrounded by her loved ones" and described her as a 'devoted mother' with "impeccable taste." Ed was described as Maguire's "beloved friend," with the obituary noting how she would attend games with the devoted football dad. "She also grew an unexpected love for football later in life, sharing many laughs and adventures with her beloved friend Ed Kelce and her loyal dog Butch," the obituary from Stretch Funeral Home in the suburbs of Philadelphia read. "Together, they traveled often and attended football games and concerts, and embraced every opportunity to enjoy life to the fullest," it continued. Maureen was also described as a "natural hostess," per the obituary. "She was famous for throwing the best parties, always full of warmth, laughter, and unforgettable food." Ed was married to Jason and Travis' mom Donna Kelce for 25 years after they wed in the late '70s. They divorced in 2011, and Ed explained that they had stayed together for their sons. 'If we had split as we probably both would have preferred, that would have been a nightmare with the logistics, getting kids where they had to be and providing all the support,' Ed explains in the 2023 documentary Kelce. Per the obituary, Maureen leaves behind three children, six grandchildren, her brother John and her sister Loretta. Read the original article on People

Chip Kelly and the Las Vegas Raiders offensive staff may be a bit unhappy with what they're seeing from second-year stud

Chip Kelly and the Las Vegas Raiders offensive staff may be a bit unhappy with what they're seeing from second-year stud originally appeared on A to Z Sports. With training camp here, the Las Vegas Raiders are evaluating everything. And that's what they should do, considering how many things have been wrong within the franchise. This is the fourth regime in four years for the Raiders. So, with so many hands on the franchise the last few years, Pete Carroll and John Spytek just want to make sure everything is at its best. That includes position battles in training camp that maybe we didn't even think would be position camp is the time to watch for position battles all over the roster, but you usually know who will start at certain positions — for example, we know quarterback Geno Smith is the starter. There is no battle between him and Aidan O'Connell, the backup quarterback. Well, we thought there was no battle for the center spot. Jackson Powers-Johnson, the now second-year center, finished the season there last year, and man, he was great. He had a few hiccups, but overall, it was fun seeing him get up the field for a few was a position that we all just assumed was JPJ's, and there really wasn't anything else to think about. The idea was that JPJ is the center of the future for the Raiders. But we could all be wrong. There's now some stipulation that maybe the Raiders are unhappy with him, as that's a question one insider is raising. View the to see embedded media. Raiders could be unhappy with Jackson Powers-Johnson The first week of training camp, JPJ was starting at center. Then, in this second week, it's been mostly all Jordan Meredith, the guard from last season. And, JPJ has been playing guard, where he started the 2024 the question is, why is that? It feels like that's the direction the Raiders are going. 'What was interesting… is when Alex Cappa was in there, he was making the line calls,' Las Vegas Raiders Review Journal insider Vinny Bonsignore said on the Vegas Nation First and 10 podcast. 'Do you think [Powers-Johnson moving to guard] has to do with communication and understanding of the offense, and the understanding of calling things at the NFL level, that maybe they're a little bit hesitant with Jackson Powers-Johnson right now?' 'I'm just wondering if Jackson Powers Johnson is at the point where… I'm trying to put myself in his cleats a little bit… 'on notice, singled out' or whatever the case might be, it's pretty conspicuous what's going on,' Bonsignore said. Now, this could very well mean nothing at all, just the Raiders trying things out. Or, it could mean everything. If a guy like Vinny, who is super close to the team, is pointing it out, saying something isn't right, then something's probably not still early in training camp, so it will certainly be something to watch, because JPJ is much better at the center position than he is at the guard position.
