100 pink toilets to be built in 16 cities: Minister
(Urban) 2.0 in 10 other cities across Bihar, the urban development and housing department announced on Friday.

In total, 100 pink toilets are being built across 16 urban local bodies as part of an initiative to provide safe, hygienic and private sanitation facilities for women. According to an official press release issued by the department, the project aims to protect women from sexual harassment and violence, while also safeguarding their health and dignity.
Urban development and housing minister Jibesh Kumar highlighted the importance of this initiative in promoting women's well-being.
"Safe, private and hygienic facilities are essential for women's health, dignity and empowerment. The pink toilet initiative is a novel step towards providing high-quality personal hygiene facilities for women and girls in the state," he said.
"These toilets will be equipped with essential amenities such as electricity, water, cleanliness, and, most importantly, the availability of sanitary pads," he added.
Abhay Kumar Singh, secretary of the department, outlined the cities and towns where the pink toilets will be constructed. These include Gaya Municipal Corporation, Muzaffarpur Municipal Corporation, Biharsharif Municipal Corporation, Purnia Municipal Corporation, Sasaram Municipal Corporation, Sitamarhi Municipal Corporation, Rajgir Nagar Parishad, Bodh Gaya Nagar Parishad, Sultanganj Nagar Parishad, Bhabua Nagar Parishad, Barahiya Nagar Parishad, Buxar Nagar Parishad, Jale Nagar Parishad, Singhwara Nagar Panchayat, Kamtaul-Ahiyari Nagar Panchayat and Dev Nagar Panchayat.
Also, helpline numbers will be made available for each pink toilet and women caretakers are being appointed to manage and maintain the facilities.

Mumbai: Former Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik discharged from Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani hospital
Mumbai (Maharshtra) [India], July 7 (ANI): Former Odisha Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition in Odisha Assembly, Naveen Patnaik, was discharged from Mumbai's Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital on Monday, following a successful surgery. Expressing gratitude following his discharge, Patnaik took to the social media platform X and wrote, 'I would like to thank the entire medical team of @KDAHMumbai and GangaWebteam for providing excellent medical service and taking great care of me pre-surgery and post-surgery. Heartfelt thanks to everyone from #Odisha and outside for their wishes and prayers for my health. Jai Jagannatha.' Speaking in Bhubaneswar, BJD Vice-President Debi Prasad Mishra told ANI that Patnaik had travelled to Mumbai on June 20 for the medical procedure. 'People of Odisha are very glad to know that their beloved leader, Naveen ji has come out of Ambani hospital (Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital) in Mumbai. He had been to Mumbai on 20th June for the he has come out of the hospital,' he said. BJD's Mishra further added,' People are very eager to see him in Odisha at Naveen is a very successful operation. He has been discharged from the hospital and will remain in Mumbai for a few days for physiotherapy and other necessary treatments, as advised by the doctors. He will come back soon, hopefully...' Meanwhile, on July 3, as the state climbed to fifth place in the national school education rankings for 2023-24, the former CM expressed his happiness on social media, crediting the 5T initiative for the transformation. The previous Biju Janata Dal government had transformed about 7000 schools to unleash new aspirations and open new horizons for school students. In a post on X, former CM Naveen Patnaik shared, 'Glad to share that Odisha has earned 5th rank nationally in School Grading System, as per Performance Grading Index (PGI-2.0) Report released by Government of India. Odisha has achieved score of 595.6 and secured PRACHESTA-3 grade for the academic year 2023-24, up from 14th in 2019. The PGI 2.0 evaluates school education through 73 indicators across two categories: Outcomes and Governance & Management.' 'Under our #5T initiative, we transformed about 7000 schools to unleash new aspirations and open new horizons for school students. U.T. bags national award for tobacco control measures
Puducherry has bagged the 'Best Performing UT Award' in the Tobacco-Free Youth campaign 2.0, a national recognition conferred by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. The award acknowledges Puducherry's efforts in implementing tobacco control initiatives under the National Tobacco Control Programme (NTCP) during the year 2024 25, an official release said. The Union Territory was lauded for its robust enforcement of anti-tobacco laws, particularly the yellow line campaigns aimed at preventing the sale of tobacco products near educational institutions. The administration's measure to declare numerous institutions as tobacco-free zones and conduct intensive enforcement drives in collaboration with the police department also came in for commendation, the press note added. According to the release, the highlights of the campaign in Puducherry also included the establishment of 20 new tobacco cessation centres across medical and dental colleges and primary and community health centres. Awareness programmes were also carried out across schools, colleges, and communities. The Department of Health and Family Welfare Services appreciated the sustained efforts of the District Collectorate, Police department, Education department, Social Welfare department, medical and dental colleges, field-level health workers, community health volunteers, and partner organisations for helping achieve the award.
