ECB's Makhlouf Says Euro Not Ready to Challenge Dollar's Role
(Bloomberg) -- The euro cannot quickly supplant the dollar as the anchor of the world's financial system as countries using it still have far to go in their financial and economic integration, European Central Bank Governing Council member Gabriel Makhlouf said. Foreign Buyers Swoop on Cape Town Homes, Pricing Out Locals Massachusetts to Follow NYC in Making Landlords Pay Broker Fees NYC Commutes Resume After Midtown Bus Terminal Crash Chaos Struggling Downtowns Are Looking to Lure New Crowds What Gothenburg Got Out of Congestion Pricing The Central Bank of Ireland Governor said dollar dominance will decline over the long-term, but for now Europe lacks a single fiscal capacity of a safe asset like Treasuries that would mirror the US system. 'Frankly, Europe's economic system is still not formed,' Makhlouf said at an economic conference in Aix-en-Provence, France. Currency movements in recent months, which have seen the euro appreciate against the dollar, are more attributable to investor concerns about the rule of law in the US, he added. 'It's a bit far to say that's suddenly going to lead to the euro replacing the dollar because the euro is not ready to do that,' Makhlouf said. Still, he echoed the calls of his colleagues at the ECB for Europe to use the current environment of global uncertainty as an opportunity to bolster its own security, lift barriers within its single market and increase joint-financing for shared objectives. 'These opportunities to actually increase the standing of the EU, to strengthen its sovereignty and autonomy matter, and they need to be taken,' Makhlouf said. --With assistance from Alan Katz. NRG Energy, Inc. (NRG) Could Go Up In H2 2025, Says Jim Cramer
We recently published . NRG Energy, Inc. (NYSE:NRG) is one of the stocks Jim Cramer recently discussed. NRG Energy, Inc. (NYSE:NRG) is a large American energy company that produces electricity, trades in commodities, and conducts other operations. The shares have gained a massive 70% year-to-date, primarily on the back of a 31% jump in May ahead of which the stock had gained a considerably less 28%. NRG Energy, Inc. (NYSE:NRG)'s shares jumped in May after the firm's first-quarter revenue and EPS beat analyst estimates and the firm announced a massive $12 billion deal to acquire power generation assets which led it to increase its long-term growth rate to 14% from 10%. For Cramer, NRG Energy, Inc. (NYSE:NRG) was part of his top stocks to watch for the second half due to growing power demand. His comments were brief: 'NRG will be up, you need a lot of power.' Close up image of an engineer inspecting the control panel of a modern power plant. Cramer mentioned NRG Energy, Inc. (NYSE:NRG)'s exposure to the technology industry in June. Here is what he said: 'Then there's NRG. I mean, it's part of a small group of utilities known for their relatively clean power, and a lot of tech companies want clean energy for their data centers. NRG works directly with them, and it also partners with GE Vernova, a Charitable Trust holding that makes the turbines for their power plants.' While we acknowledge the potential of NRG as an investment, our conviction lies in the belief that some AI stocks hold greater promise for delivering higher returns and have limited downside risk.
