Former Endurance Racing boss Gerard Neveu takes Retromobile to New York
Neveu was also one of the key protagonists in the convergence of regulations between the US based International Motor Sports Association (IMSA, owned by NASCAR) and the Automobile Club de l'Ouest (ACO, owner of WEC and founder of the 24 Hours of Le Mans). Prior to WEC he served as the Director of Paul Ricard Circuit in the South of France.
Retromobile Paris celebrates its 50th anniversary next year, and the New York show aims to capitalize on the burgeoning US classic car scene, where more than 50% of the global collectors' cars market is concentrated. Neveu's first moves in the role have been to secure 400,000 square feet in four halls in Javits Center and strike an auction partnership with Gooding Christie's.
'The concept of Retromobile is special,' says Neveu. 'You find both the biggest car collectors and vendors from all around the world at the same time, plus manufacturers and brokers. You also have a fan community attending the event, who can live out their dreams, see cars and people which may bring back precious memories. Retromobile is a celebration of all things automotive, including but not limited to, motorsport. And it is a place where you can live and share your passion for cars of all types.'
James Allen
The choice of New York, rather than the West Coast or Miami was based on a number of factors, with logistics being a key driver. 'But also because around New York you already have a huge community of car collectors and brokers,' says Neveu.
'For the inaugural show we are looking for 200-250 exhibitors (with more than 80% coming from the USA) and 50,000 – 60,000 visitors.
'The partnership with Gooding Christie's is great for the event because, with the combination of expertise from Gooding and the prestige of Christie's, we have every reason to hope for a spectacular classic car auction."
The New York event has a lot to live up to. Retromobile Paris last year attracted 146,000 visitors, of whom 19% were from outside France and 600 exhibitors with auction sales of over $125m.'I'm trying to bring my experience of managing big automotive events and make sure we will be able to offer a great and unique experience to our visitors and participants,' says Neveu. 'The big challenge facing us will be to attain the heights of the prestigious Retromobile Paris. The 50th anniversary of Retromobile next year is the perfect opportunity to export the concept of this exclusive event elsewhere for the very first time and we will do our best to deliver an event in New York with the same DNA as Paris at its core but with the vibrant American colors running right through it.'

Acura Can Catch Porsche in IMSA WeatherTech Manufacturer's Chase
Now that the others have won, look for a return to a less draconian BoP for the Ferrari 499P in the WEC and Porsche in IMSA. It remains to be seen if IMSA officials have in fact balanced the performance. Hopefully, there will be a straight fight for the manufacturer title between Porsche and Acura, which trails by 90 points. After two straight victories by the Acura MSR team in the WeatherTech Championship, the interregnum is over for the Porsche Penske Motorsport team. Having been hobbled by the Balance of Performance (BoP), the Porsche team will have a chance to stand atop the podium again on Sunday after the sprint race at Road America. Urs Keratle, the director for Porsche's 963 program, said that simulations have shown the team will 'be able to compete with the others. The reality we will see in qualifying and the race.' The subtraction of weight (nine kilograms) and a 5.2% increase in Stage 2 power for the Porsches in the BoP prior to Road America reflects the current sports car racing season's pattern in both the World Endurance Championship and IMSA. The best performing cars and their teams have been heavily penalized midway in the season by BoP to open the door to other manufacturers. Now that the others have won, look for a return to a less draconian BoP for the Ferrari 499P in the WEC and Porsche in IMSA. Cadillac and its Jota team won its first WEC race in Round 5 in Brazil, where officials made it very unlikely for the Ferraris, winners of four straight races, to compete for victory. IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship Porsche 2,182 Acura 2,092 Cadillac 1,974 BMW 1,962 Aston Martin 1,439 In IMSA, each of the two Acuras entered by Jim Meyers and Michael Shank won in Detroit and Watkins Glen in part because of the BoP hampering the Porsches. Cadillac scored three podiums in those two events. Keratle suggested Porsche Penske was unable to control its own destiny. 'We are prepared to be competitive in the races if it's very well in our hands,' he said. Who stands atop the podium at Wisconsin's picturesque Elkhart Lake circuit and then celebrates at the Siebkens resort will have a significant impact on the driver and manufacturer championships for the IMSA GTP season, which has two endurance races remaining after the Motul SportsCar Grand Prix. It remains to be seen if IMSA officials have in fact balanced the performance and a straight fight for the manufacturer title will evolve between Porsche and Acura, which trails by 90 points. On the driver side, the four straight victories by Porsche Penske to open the season put its drivers in an almost unassailable position. Matt Campbell and Mathieu Jaminet, drivers of the No. 6 Porsche 963, lead teammates Nick Tandy and Felipe Nasr by 12 points after the latter two's poor result at the Glen. Acura MSR drivers Renger van der Zande and Nick Yelloly, winners in Detroit, trail the Porsche drivers by 262 points in third place. There's more to come in the manufacturers' contest after the Glen victory, said David Salters, president of Honda Racing Corporation USA. The combination of the Meyers-Shank team and engineers from the HRC factory is beginning to pay dividends. Along with driver Tom Blomqvist, they successfully executed a challenging fuel strategy to grab the victory at the Glen from the Cadillac of Action Express Racing before celebrating at the Seneca Lodge. 'We are six races into the season and we're starting to show what we're made of,' said Salters. 'It was a great weekend, but we must keep pushing.' The Acura MSR squad gained 112 points in the factory title chase with its victories. The team likely needs to win at least two of the three remaining races to overcome the 90-point gap to Porsche Penske. Where Porsche Penske has no team orders, Acura MSR can employ split strategies and concentrate on just getting one car into Victory Lane. Blomqvist, who co-drove with Colin Braun on board the No. 60 ARX-06 at the Glen, is reconciled to his team now concentrating on the manufacturers title. 'We still stand a chance in the manufacturers, which is definitely a big goal of Acura's,' said Blomqvist. 'So, we haven't given up there, having won the last two events. Obviously, only one of the team's cars gets points for that. I think ultimately that's probably what we're going to focus on more than the drivers' title. Let's see.'

Tom Holland Might Take Another Acting Break
Tom Holland is undoubtedly a megastar, but sometimes the stars need a mega-break. 29-year-old Tom spoke with British GQ about becoming the new face of Paradigme, a new fragrance from Prada, and revealed why he needs to "take a bit more time off." Tom told the publication he feels "really blessed to be at a point in my career where I can take time off, reset, and come back ready to go." Tom's desire to take time off is well-earned, given that his current schedule is booked and busy. He will play Telemachus in Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey, due in theaters on July 17, 2026. He will star alongside Academy Award winners Matt Damon, Anne Hathaway, Charlize Theron, and Lupita Nyong'o, as well as his fiancé Zendaya, Robert Pattinson, and others. Tom also has the film American Speed in the works with Austin Butler, a true story of three renowned racecar driver brothers (Don, Bill, and Dale Whittington) and how two of them were involved in the 1980s International Motor Sports Association scandal. In the interview with British GQ, Tom said, "You can't be in every movie, and you can't do your best work when you're burnt out. What I've learnt is that it's important to set boundaries — to be mindful about overworking." "I've got a slightly busy next year, and then I'll probably take a bit more time off in 2027. We'll see," he told GQ. This isn't the first time Tom's been forthcoming about his boundaries as a leading actor. In recent years, he spoke about taking a break from acting and social media and quitting drinking. "I'm never gonna drink again because this is the best version of myself." In 2023, Tom also shared that he was taking a year off after having difficulty filming the Apple TV+ series The Crowded Room. Given Tom's demanding schedule for the following years, another potential break is a practical next step. In addition to his acting career, in January, Tom became engaged to his longtime MCU costar and partner, Zendaya. Three movies and a wedding sound like a lot. Cheers to breaks! We adore a well-rested Tom. Read the full interview here.

Late to the Party
Unlike the Tadek Marek–designed inline-six that defined much of Aston Martin's legend, the company's V-12 originated far from Aston's British homeland. The engine was designed and engineered in Michigan during the Nineties, making Aston one of the most recent luxury brands to enter the 12-cylinder era. After taking control of Aston Martin starting in 1987, Ford green-lit the DB7. The coupe and convertible GT were based on a canceled Jaguar proposal and powered by a supercharged Jag inline-six. But it was obvious Aston would need a grander powerplant to live up to its new owner's aspirations for the brand. Ford had already been working on several putative V-12 projects at the time, although none of these influenced the Aston engine. Inspiration instead came from the humble Duratec V-6 that was in development (and on which Porsche had done some early work). The V-12 project was run by a small group of young engineers within Ford's Advanced Powertrain department, and contrary to rumors, the engine is not simply the combination of two Duratec sixes. The Aston engine has a custom block made from a more advanced alloy, larger bearings, and different cylinder liners but shares piston assemblies and valvetrain components. The first car to get the spiffy new 5.9-liter V-12 was the 2000 DB7 Vantage, and it proved such a hit that the inline-six DB7 was dropped within a year. At its debut, the V-12 made 414 hp and 398 lb-ft, but it was soon clear that plenty of scope had been left to improve those numbers. The first-gen Vanquish, which was introduced for 2002 and premiered Aston's new bonded-aluminum architecture, increased power to 460 hp. Output continued to grow steadily, and by the end of its life, the 5.9 made 580 hp and 465 lb-ft in the second-gen Vanquish S. From the start, the V-12 had also been designed for motorsport—even though Aston had no racing program when the project began. The prophecy came true with the DBR9 race car, which took back-to-back GT1 class wins at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2007 and 2008. Tightening emissions targets killed the original V-12 after the 2019 Rapide S, but the engine served as the basis for the substantially altered twin-turbo 5.2-liter V-12 that replaced it in the 2017 DB11. It keeps the same bore centers, cylinder diameter, and timing gear, and was initially assembled by Ford in Germany until Aston took production in-house in 2020. Output continues to trend upward, with the new Vanquish's 824 hp and 738 lb-ft almost certainly not where the story will end. 2000 Aston Martin DB7 Vantage 2002 Aston Martin Vanquish 2007 Aston Martin Vanquish Aston Martin DBR9 at the 24 Hours of Le Mans 2017 Aston Martin DB11 You Might Also Like You Need a Torque Wrench in Your Toolbox Tested: Best Car Interior Cleaners The Man Who Signs Every Car Sign in to access your portfolio
