Tait was the first recipient of McColgan's 'Giving Back to Track' programme, which was set up three years ago to help young women make their way in athletics.After plenty of support and encouragement, Tait says breaking her mentor's record was something she had targeted for a while."Eilish has supported and mentored me for a good few years now and she always said she thought I would be the one who would take her record down," she revealed."Eilish really took me under her wing. I am still in touch with her now, we still go back and forth. She always sends me a congratulations message, she is always there to support me and I am really grateful for everything she has done for me."Having just completed her studies at West Virginia University, Tait admits she is "still figuring things out" in terms of where she is going to base herself as she prepares for next summer's Commonwealth Games, which she says is her "priority".As a 13-year-old, Tait went to watch the athletics at Hampden Park when the games last visited the city in 2014."I just can't wait to hopefully be a part of it and be part of inspiring the next generation because that was me sitting in the stands watching - so I really hope that can be me on the start line this time," she added.

Lions' props roam the team hotel like ‘migrating bison'
Pierre Schoeman has revealed the British and Irish Lions' props are gelling so well that they have taken to roaming their team hotels together like 'migrating bison'. The Lions have taken six of the front rows to Australia and while they are competing hard for the four available places in the Test series that begins in Brisbane on July 19, they have still formed a tight bond off the field. 'We actually have a prop group that none of our other team members are allowed on. They don't know about it, but our secret is out now,' Schoeman said. 'We are like bison, migrating together. We have a secret meeting every night. Finlay Bealham started it and now all the props have bought in. 'We stick together and have a tea after every training session and we get to meet each other's families and ask deep questions. But it's just for props in whatever hotel we live in.' Within the prop contingent those that fill the number one jersey have gravitated towards each other, with Schoeman striking up a close relationship with fellow 'gladiators' Ellis Genge and Andrew Porter. 'Looseheads all around the world are very similar. They are quite weird and unique people. Something isn't right,' the South African-born Scotland prop said. 'We always say that playing rugby you must have a screw loose, but playing rugby as a loosehead prop…We like going to dark places – physically, mentally, spiritually. 'We're different but similar. We are almost like a gladiator when all the gladiators come together. (Scrum coach) John Fogarty has the key for the cage to unlock the gladiators. 'We all associate with being loosehead props in the professional era with different backgrounds. 'It's just nice knowing each other and we are learning from each other as well. You have to get along. You have to make it work. At this moment it is like a small mini unit and the engine has to go. 'It is the healthiest competition I've seen in my career. You learn from each other and you really use your super strengths. If someone else is better, you learn from them. 'You can clearly see we are all driving towards the same collective. Whatever your job is on the sailing yard, you have to do that otherwise you won't get to the destination.' Schoeman starts Saturday's clash with New South Wales Waratahs in Sydney as the Lions continue a hectic schedule of four matches in 11 days leading into the first Test against the Wallabies. 'You have to be resilient, but as a Lion you put a smile on your face and there are no excuses. You have to deliver. Fans, travel, media, friends…anything goes,' he said.

‘It didn't look safe' – Fears for darts stars after Luke Humphries injured by fan at US Masters in New York
FEARS have been sparked over the safety of darts stars after Luke Humphries was injured by a fan at the US Masters. The world No1 was forced to go to hospital after being pulled back by a supporter during his walk-on in New York last month. 1 The over-zealous fan latched on to Humphries' thumb before yanking it as the star made his way to the stage. It left the former world champion with a swollen digit that made it painful to hold darts in his 8-6 win over Nathan Aspinall. Humphries was forced to go to A&E after the match for an emergency X-ray. Fortunately for him, no serious damage had been done. But questions have now been raised over the safety of players during fan walk-ons. Darts stars are always up for signing autographs and posing for photos as they make their way to the oche. Yet there are concerns over how darts moves forward after the raucous crowd in New York. Speaking on the Darts Draait Door podcast, former pro Vincent van der Voort said: 'Humphries showed me his thumb the next day, it was really swollen.' Host Damian Vlottes then noted: '(The walk-on) really didn't look safe for the players.' Van den Voort then suggested that players fist-bump fans instead of shaking hands. He added: 'Raymond van Barneveld always fist-bumps with his non-throwing hand. 'He says, 'I don't want those beer-soaked hands anywhere near my darting hand'. 'More players should take a leaf out of his book.'

Marcus Rashford expects to take full part in Manchester United's pre-season
Marcus Rashford is preparing for Manchester United's pre-season tour and expects to play a full part in preparations for the Premier League season. The England forward, 27, spent six months on loan at Aston Villa last season after getting frozen out by United head coach Ruben Amorim but has returned to his parent club. Rashford is among the players at Old Trafford with uncertain futures, also including Alejandro Garnacho and Jadon Sancho, with the club having to decide whether they should be included in preparations for the 2025-26 campaign and the tour of the United States. With Rashford, United will make a decision on whether to re-integrate him into their squad after his successful loan at Villa where he forced his way back into the England squad under Thomas Tuchel. They could also look to sell Rashford or loan him out again, which would need the player to accept terms to join a new club. Rashford has no issue returning to the club and training fully ahead of the new campaign, according to sources close to the player. This is despite Amorim dropping him from the match-day squad last season. United travel to the US for their pre-season programme after facing Leeds United in Stockholm, Sweden, on July 19. For their American tour, they face West Ham, Bournemouth and Everton in the Premier League Summer Series. Ahead of the new season, they will also play Italian club Fiorentina on August 9. Rashford was interviewed recently in Spain where he has worked with personal trainers, with the forward hinting that he would like to play at Barcelona with teenage sensation Lamine Yamal. Rashford has been based near Marbella, where he says the weather and proximity to England makes it a good place for work ahead of pre-season. United value him at £40 million, although Rashford's salary means the club may have to negotiate a deal should he leave. As reported by Telegraph Sport last weekend, United face paying players portions of their existing contracts to leave. Rashford's representatives have previously spoken to Barca, who could favour a loan move. At this stage of the window, talks have yet to start over a summer move, with Amorim yet to make his intentions clear on what his unwanted players will do in pre-season. Has this happened before? Romelu Lukaku went on pre-season tour to Australia in 2019 ahead of leaving for Inter Milan later in the summer. He was training on his own, although the club cited injury for the reason he was not with the first-team squad. Jadon Sancho returned to United last season after reaching the Champions League final with Borussia Dortmund while on loan. He played in pre-season and featured in the Community Shield before being loaned to Chelsea for the season. Where can Rashford go? Rashford's recent interview suggests he would favour a move abroad, hinting at Barcelona being a preferred destination when asked about the prospect of being a team-mate for Lamine Yamal at the Nou Camp. Other clubs are looking for wide forward. For instance, Tottenham Hotspur are looking at that position – but it remains to be seen who they will move for. Newcastle United were interested in Joao Pedro but he decided to move to Chelsea. Has the door opened at Barcelona? Barcelona have been looking at a wide forward and were interested in a deal for Athletic Bilbao's Nico Williams. However, the Spain international has now signed a new 10-year deal with his club with an increased buyout clause, which would make a move this summer look unlikely. 'Nico Williams renews with Athletic Club until 2035,' read a statement from Athletic. 'The red-and-white winger commits to the club of his heart for the next 10 seasons, and his release clause increases by more than 50 per cent.' Williams's previous release clause was previously around £50 million, with the prospect of a new club now paying £75 million. Rashford would be available for a much cheaper price, although Barca are also admirers of Liverpool's Luis Diaz. Who else at United is in a similar position to Rashford? Chelsea paid United a £5 million penalty after deciding not to make Sancho's loan deal permanent, so he is scheduled to join Rashford at Carrington on Monday. Brazil forward Antony was loaned to Real Betis last season and they remain interested in having him again at the right price. Tyrell Malacia, who spent the second half of last season out on loan at PSV Eindhoven, also has an uncertain future. Alejandro Garnacho is also available for transfer.
