As a result, the pahandi was completed by 12.30 pm, two hours before the scheduled time. The Chhera Pahanra ritual was performed by Puri king Gajapati Dibyasingha Deb on the three chariots and completed by 2.40 pm, one hour ahead of schedule.
The chariot pulling was scheduled for 4 pm, but the first Taladhwaja rath of Lord Balabhadra rolled out at 3 pm. The sky was thickly overcast, and it was drizzling all through the day. Over half a million devotees converged at Badadanda (Grand Road) and participated in the pulling of the chariots to the Jagannath temple.

'Samal and state vice-president Golak Mohapatra were the two contenders for the post. It appears that Samal has an edge over Mohapatra as the central leadership has more confidence on his organisational abilities,' the sources maintained. However, one thing that goes against Samal is that he has already been the state unit president for three terms. Though he was elected twice from 1999 to 2000 and 2001 to 2004, he was nominated for the third term in March 2023.

Karimnagar: Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Bandi Sanjay Kumar said that Hindus will be protected only if they become a united force. He was speaking after having darshan of Lord Jagannath during the Jagannath Rath Yatra in Karimnagar on Saturday. 'Thousands of Hindus are participating in the Sri Jagannath Rath Yatra. It is believed that if they participate in this Rath Yatra, their wishes will be fulfilled. Continuing the yatra in every district has become a tradition,' Bandi said.
