Top 15 2026 basketball recruit lists Longhorns in his Top 6

Yahoo23-07-2025
As Longhorns basketball looks to add to its 2026 class, it had a reason to celebrate on Monday. One of the top recruits still on the board, Qayden Samuels, narrowed his list down to six programs, and the Longhorns made the cut. Their next goal will be to get Samuels to campus for a visit, showing him what a future at Texas could look like.
While the Longhorns would love to secure a commitment from the talented small forward, they will face competition. The other programs still in the running are Kentucky, UConn, North Carolina, NC State, and Georgetown. All of those programs have had success over the last few years, including UConn, who has rewritten the record books.
Currently, the Bishop McNamara High School product is ranked as the fifth-best small forward in his class by 247Sports. They also rank him as the best player from the state of Maryland. Over the last few months, Samuels has seen his stock rise as he has been a force with the ball in his hands.
Since becoming the Longhorns' head coach, Sean Miller has focused on reshaping his roster. That has included building relationships with players in the 2026 class and beyond. If Miller can land Samuels, the Longhorns would be adding a talented scorer to the mix.
Although the Longhorns are still searching for their first commitment in the 2026 class, they have been connected to some of the top players available. They have made offers to Dylan Mingo, Taylen Kinney, Deron Rippey Jr., Bo Ogden, and Junior County. Any of those players would represent a significant offensive upgrade for a team that struggled to score last year.
With the recruiting season far from over, the Longhorns will be a program to watch. Texas has numerous offers pending and hopes to add Samuels' commitment to the list.

Michigan State basketball offers 4-star SF Jalyn Collingwood

Michigan State basketball has extended an offer to a four-star small forward from Washington, D.C. Jalyn Collingwood announced on Monday that he's received an offer from the Spartans. Collingwood -- who plays for Sidwell Friends School -- announced the offer from Michigan State by posting on his social media X account. Collingwood is a four-star small forward prospect in the 2026 class, and holds a recruiting rating of 91.01 in 247Sports' composite system. He ranks as the No. 49 small forward and No. 150 overall prospect in the class, according to 247Sports. Michigan State is one of more than 10 schools to extend an offer to Collingwood, according to 247Sports. He also holds offers from Maryland, Mississippi State, Arizona State, Butler, Boston College, Iowa State, Oklahoma State, Texas Tech, Xavier, Murray State and Norfolk State. At the moment, it appears Maryland Mississippi State are the two leading favorites for Collingwood's commitment. He has a visit scheduled to Mississippi State in September and Maryland has a "warm" rating for his recruitment on 247Sports. Browns owner Jimmy Haslam dismisses speculation surrounding Arch Manning

Cleveland Browns owner Jimmy Haslam says the Browns are not already in pursuit of Texas quarterback Arch Manning in the 2026 NFL Draft. Haslam addressed speculation that Cleveland already has its sights set on Manning due to the team's ongoing quarterback woes, "I think if you know the Manning family, I would bet — and I don't know Arch at all — I bet he stays in college two years," Haslam told reporters during a press conference Tuesday. "I don't even think that's worth discussing." Manning will take over as Texas' starting quarterback this season, but the expectation that he will declare for the draft next year and Haslam's connections to the Manning family have led many to suggest Manning could be chosen with one of the two first-round picks the Browns have next year. Manning passed for 939 yards and nine touchdowns and ran for four touchdowns last season behind Quinn Ewers. During SEC Media Days earlier this month, Manning admitted that playing backup wasn't easy, but he never contemplated transferring. "(Transferring) never really crossed my mind," he said. "I knew Texas was the place I wanted to be. It was the city I wanted to be in, a great education. I had friends there. I was still developing and growing as a football player and a person. So, I never really wanted to leave. If there was somewhere else I wanted to be, I would have gone." Texas opens its season Aug. 30 against the defending national champion Ohio State.

Canada Names National Development Team Roster For Summer Series

For the second straight summer, Hockey Canada will lean on youth at the August 13-16 Summer Series against USA with their national development team roster. Canada named a 23-player roster for the three-game series against USA's Collegiate Select roster including 12 members of their national development team roster from last season that won silver at the 2024 Women's Euro Hockey Tour's Six Nations tournament. 'We are excited to return to the international stage with a strong group of athletes who bring both experience and fresh energy to our development team,' said national development team head coach Alison Domenico. 'It is an honour to be back behind the bench, and our staff is eager to continue guiding our talented athletes as they take the next steps in their growth within our program.' Among the returnees to their roster are captain Jocelyn Amos, Tova Henderson, Jordan Baxter, Avi Adam, Claire Murdoch, Hailey MacLeod, Ava Murphy, Ashley Messier, Emma Pais, Madeline Palumbo, Sarah Paul, Sara Swiderski, and Emma Venusio. Adding to their national team experience are a large group of U-18 national team players including Mackenze Alexander, Eloise Caron, Hannah Clark, Piper Grober, Makayla Watson, and Alyssa Regalado, who all played in the NCAA last season. Canada also named five players who will make their NCAA debuts this season including goaltender Rhyah Stewart, and forwards Maxine Cimeroni, Sienna D'Alessandro, Sara Manness, and Stryker Zablocki. Notably absent from their 2025 roster is standout Caitlin Kraemer. The omission likely means Kraemer is either recovering from injury, or will be part of Canada's senior national team centralizations. Eve Gascon was also not named to their roster again as she'll be with the senior national team. Alex Law was the only other player not returning, but she struggled last season with Boston University. From last year's national development team that played in the Women's Euro Hockey Tour, seven players were selected in the 2025 PWHL Draft, including first-round picks Nicole Gosling, Kendall Cooper, and Jenna Buglioni, and second-round picks Anne Cherkowski and Hannah Murphy. Other PWHL picks from Canada's national development team were Sarah Wozniewicz and Maya Labad.
