Kalen DeBoer provides injury update on Alabama freshman wide receiver

USA Today5 hours ago
Following the program's fall camp practice Sunday, Alabama Crimson Tide head coach Kalen DeBoer provided an update on an injured freshman wide receiver.
That wideout is true freshman Lotzeir Brooks, who has reportedly been spotted in a walking boot, but is an injury that should not affect the receiver for very long, according to DeBoer on Sunday.
'It won't be anything long-term or anything like that,' DeBoer said. 'So, just be a little bit of recovery here. I don't know if it's day-to-day, but it's not going to be something that's extended.'
A member of Alabama's 2025 recruiting class, Brooks comes to Tuscaloosa after a memorable high school career while playing at Millville High School in New Jersey.
Per the 247Sports Composite rankings, Brooks was considered as a four-star prospect, as well as the No. 185 overall player in the class. Brooks also ranked as the No. 25 overall wide receiver nationally.
A potential instant-impact member of Alabama's freshman class, Brooks will be a player to monitor over the coming weeks leading up to the Crimson Tide's season-opener at Florida State.

Notre Dame saw On3's Steve Wiltfong predicting to land one of its last 2026 targets

Notre Dame football currently has twenty-six commits in the 2026 recruiting cycle, and while there isn't much room left, there is for at least one more prospect. Elijah Golden is a 6-foot, 4-inch and 275-pound defensive lineman from Florida who will make his commitment on Aug. 9th, deciding between Alabama, Oklahoma, Virginia Tech and the Irish. On3's Steve Wiltfong really likes Notre Dame's chances, as on Monday he put in a projection for Golden to commit to the Blue and Gold. With a frame like his, Golden will most likely play on the interior of the line at the next level, but can also play on the edge if needed. Tiki Hola is the only other prospect that projects inside, so there is a clear need for Notre Dame to add another in this class. The hope is that Wiltfong is correct, and Golden ultimately does select the Irish on Saturday. MSU hoops lands near middle of Big Ten in power rankings from Andy Katz

See where longtime college basketball analyst Andy Katz has the Spartans in his updated Big Ten power rankings College basketball analyst Andy Katz is expecting a notable drop off from the Spartans next season. Katz released updated power rankings for the Big Ten, and he has the Spartans dropping to the middle of the league next year. In his rankings of all 18 Big Ten schools, Katz has the Spartans coming in at No. 7. Ahead of Michigan State is Purdue (No. 1), Michigan (No. 2), Oregon (No. 3), UCLA (No. 4), Illinois (No. 5) and Wisconsin (No. 6). Michigan State won the Big Ten by three games last season and went the deepest of any team from the league in the NCAA Tournament in reaching the Elite Eight. The Spartans, however, have lost a number of key contributors from last year's squad -- including Jaden Akins and Jase Richardson. I personally have Michigan State right around the same spot as Katz but can understand some Spartans fans considering this a slight for the defending conference champs. I wouldn't be surprised if Michigan State surprised some folks again and ended up near the top of the league as we saw this past season. Sean Payton hosted a familiar face at Broncos training camp

The Denver Broncos had one of Sean Payton's former players at practice on Monday, although most NFL fans are more familiar with the guest for his coaching career than his quarterback days. Jason Garrett, who was a backup quarterback with the New York Giants when Payton served as their offensive coordinator in the early 2000s, was at the Broncos' facility on Monday for the team's training camp practice. 'I coached him, and he was our backup quarterback," Payton said after practice. "He's always been a close friend. He's made a couple of trips. I think he's doing some type of podcast special on leadership, and so he's here for the day. I'll spend some time with him. He's really bright, and he's been a close friend. We're going to go back to 2000, which is when we signed him. It's good to see him.' Garrett also visited Broncos training camp last summer. Garrett served as head coach of the Dallas Cowboys from 2011-2019, and he most recently served as the Giants' offensive coordinator from 2020-2021 before transitioning to broadcasting with NBC Sports.
