AP An off-duty US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agent was shot late Saturday night during an attempted robbery in New York City's Riverside Park, police said. Officials believe the incident was random and not related to the agent's job. According to NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch, 21-year-old Miguel Mora is a person of interest in the case. He was hospitalised with gunshot wounds believed to have been sustained during the encounter and is expected to be arrested. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD The CBP agent was sitting by the water in Manhattan when two men approached him on a scooter. One of them pulled a gun. The agent, realising he was being robbed, drew his own weapon. A shootout followed. The agent was shot in the face and forearm, while the gunman was also injured. Both suspects fled the scene. 'Last night, in New York City, an incredible CBP Officer was shot in the face by an Illegal Alien Monster freed into the Country under Joe Biden. He was apprehended at the Border in April 2023 but, instead of being deported, was RELEASED. The CBP Officer bravely fought off his attacker, despite his wounds, demonstrating enormous Skill and Courage,' US President Donald Trump posted on Truth Social. The entire incident was captured on CCTV, helping investigators identify Mora as the shooter. He later arrived at Bronx Care Hospital with gunshot wounds matching those seen on the video. New York City Mayor Eric Adams said he visited the wounded agent in hospital. His condition has not been disclosed. Commissioner Tisch said Mora is in the U.S. illegally, having crossed the border through Arizona in 2023. He has a criminal history, including two domestic violence arrests, an active warrant for missing a court date, and is wanted for a robbery in December 2024 and a stabbing in January 2025. 'I may put a restriction on them': Donald Trump threatens to block $4 billion Commanders stadium plan

Donald Trump has injected himself into the Commanders' stadium deal, threatening to block the $4 billion project (Getty Images) In a fiery twist to the Washington Commanders' search for a new stadium, U.S. President Donald Trump has inserted himself into the debate—threatening to block the team's proposed $4 billion stadium deal unless it changes its name back to the "Redskins." The team rebranded as the Commanders in 2022 following growing criticism over the racially insensitive nature of the previous name. But Trump is now using his political leverage to demand a reversal. Donald Trump calls the 'Commanders' name 'ridiculous' and demands return to tradition Taking to his platform Truth Social, Donald Trump didn't mince words. "I may put a restriction on them that if they don't change the name back to the original 'Washington Redskins,' and get rid of the ridiculous moniker 'Washington Commanders,' I won't make deal for them to build a stadium in Washington," he wrote. This declaration not only brings political pressure into the NFL but also reopens a cultural wound many hoped had started healing. Trump insists that reviving the old name would increase the franchise's value and restore its traditional legacy. Ties to larger political message: 'MIGA – Make Indians Great Again' Trump's message was broader than just Washington's NFL team. He also criticized the Cleveland Guardians, formerly the Indians, accusing the Dolan family of erasing cultural identity. In his post, Trump wrote: 'Our great Indian people, in massive numbers, want this to happen. Their heritage and prestige are systematically being taken away from them... OWNERS, GET IT DONE!!!' The former president has even launched a campaign dubbed MIGA: Make Indians Great Again. Commanders' owner stands firm amid rising name-change pressure Despite increasing noise around the name change, team owner Josh Harris has previously made it clear there are no plans to revert. In February, he said the organization will 'honor the past' but move forward under the Commanders' name. Trump's threat adds a new layer of controversy, potentially pitting federal influence against social progress. As the stadium negotiations heat up, so does the political firestorm around the Commanders' identity. 'Bibi acted like a madman': Trump team grows wary of 'child' Netanyahu's aggression in Syria, says report

The Trump administration is growing increasingly uneasy with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's aggressive military actions in the region, particularly his recent strikes in Syria, according to a report. A White House official described Bibi as 'a child,' saying he 'acted like a madman.' read more President Donald Trump and Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu arrive for a news conference in the East Room of the White House, on Feb. 4, 2025, in Washington. AP File The Trump administration is increasingly frustrated with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, known as 'Bibi', over his aggressive stance in the conflict with Syria, Axios has reported. A White House official, speaking to Axios, said, 'Bibi acted like a madman. He bombs everything all the time. This could undermine what Trump is trying to do,' referring to a recent Israeli strike on the Syrian presidential palace. The remarks come amid ongoing Israeli airstrikes in Damascus and southern Syria, where government forces have also been targeted. In a separate incident, Israeli forces reportedly struck the Holy Family Catholic Church compound, the only Catholic church in the Gaza Strip. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD According to another US official, President Donald Trump personally phoned Netanyahu following the Gaza church strike and demanded an explanation. 'The feeling is that every day there is something new. What the f***?' the official told Axios. These comments follow Netanyahu's third visit to the United States in recent weeks, during which he held multiple meetings with Trump, including a dinner at the White House. However, despite the high-level engagement, there was no breakthrough in efforts to end the Gaza war. A third White House official told Axios that scepticism towards Netanyahu is growing within the Trump team, describing the Israeli leader as 'too impulsive and too disruptive.' 'Netanyahu is sometimes like a child who just won't behave,' the official added. Israeli government spokesperson Ziv Agmon did not respond to the remarks attributed to Trump and his aides. In the wake of the Israeli strike in Syria, the United States intervened to ease tensions. The U.S. Ambassador to Turkey announced a ceasefire agreement between the parties involved. While the ceasefire temporarily paused further escalation, senior Trump administration officials remain alarmed by Netanyahu's broader regional policies, Axios reported, citing six U.S. sources.
