Argentine Man wins case against Google over unauthorized naked photo

The incident, which occurred in 2017, showed the man in his private yard behind a two-meter wall, exposing him to public ridicule. The plaintiff, a policeman, argued that the image harmed his dignity, as his house number and street name were also visible. Despite an earlier ruling dismissing his claim, an appeals court found that Google had violated his privacy. The judges awarded him the equivalent of $12,500, stating that the intrusion was unjustified. 'This involves an image of a person that was not captured in a public space but within the confines of their home, behind a fence taller than the average-sized person. The invasion of privacy... is blatant,' the court wrote. The judges emphasized that Google's policy of blurring faces and license plates showed awareness of privacy obligations, yet failed to protect the man's dignity in this case. Google had argued that the wall was not high enough to prevent visibility, but the court rejected this defense. The ruling also cleared telecom company Cablevision SA and news site El Censor of liability, noting they had merely highlighted Google's error. Foreigner held for assault in Tawau

Negligence of Pan Borneo contractor blamed

BEAUFORT: A motorcyclist escaped serious injury or worse due to the alleged negligence of the Pan Borneo Project contractor, who failed to place proper warning signs near a pothole, recently. The accident occurred at Kampung Naluyan, Mesapol Sipitang, along the Pan Borneo Highway (Sindumin–Melalia stretch). According to an eyewitness, Abdillah AJ, the victim, identified as Bakar Januddin, crashed into a deep pothole at approximately 11:30 am. Abdillah said he was on his way back from Sipitang and had just reached Kampung Naluyan, near the junction to Kampung Lubok Darat, when he witnessed the motorcyclist veer off and fall into the roadside hole. 'Fortunately, some passersby noticed the incident and helped the victim out of the hole. He was rushed to the hospital, but his motorcycle was badly damaged,' Abdillah said. The victim sustained a fractured right arm. The witness stressed that no warning signs or signal lights were placed at the location to alert road users of the hazard. 'I've seen too many accidents caused by the carelessness of the Pan Borneo highway contractors. It's costing people their safety,' he added. Residents living along the stretch between Sipitang and Lumadan want the government, particularly the Public Works Department (JKR), to closely monitor the road conditions and ensure the contractor fulfills safety obligations. Sipitang District Police Chief Supt Awang Anak Suanda said police have received a report from the victim's family. 'The victim must file a formal report at the police station to proceed with claims against the Public Works Department and the responsible parties for the damages incurred,' he said. Duo held in Tawau drug raids

The suspects, a 35-year-old local woman and a 46-year-old foreign man, were believed to be involved in drug abuse, said Tawau district police chief ACP Jasmin Hussin. He said the operation, carried out by the district's Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division, followed continuous intelligence gathering at the locations. 'The first arrest took place at about 2.40am at a house in Felda Umas, involving a woman and the seizure of about 0.09 grams of syabu,' he said on Saturday. The second raid, at a workers' quarters in Kalabakan around 4am, led to the arrest of the male suspect and the seizure of about 0.11 grams of syabu. Jasmin said both suspects tested positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine in initial urine screenings. 'We are still tracking down other suspects believed to be involved and are stepping up intelligence efforts to investigate the active drug distribution network in the area,' he said.
