Tom Rafferty, a Super Bowl-winning OL with the Cowboys, dies at 70
Rafferty died Thursday in Windsor, Colorado, where he had been hospitalized since early May following a stroke, his daughter, Rachel Powers, told The Dallas Morning News.
A year after getting drafted out of Penn State, Rafferty's first season as a starter was at right guard in 1977, which ended with the Cowboys' 27-10 victory over Denver in Super Bowl 12. He played the same position a year later when the Cowboys lost to the Pittsburgh Steelers 35-31 in the title game.
After a move to center, Rafferty threw one of the key blocks on Tony Dorsett's record 99-yard touchdown run in a 31-27 loss at Minnesota on Jan. 3, 1983. Dallas had 10 men on the field for that famous play.
Rafferty's final season was Aikman's rookie year in 1989, when he started eight games at center for a 1-15 team.
Rafferty is one of 12 Dallas players to spend at least 14 seasons with the franchise. He was teammates with seven players on that list.

Steelers announce 2025 Hall of Honor class headlined by Ben Roethlisberger
Few NFL franchises can boast the sheer volume of talent over the decades that the Pittsburgh Steelers can. The Pro Football Hall of Fame is filled with former Steelers and the franchise has six Super Bowl championships. The team also has their own Ring of Honor and each year a select few former Steelers legends get their names added. On Saturday, the Steelers announced the three former Steelers who will be a part of the 2025 class. This class is headlined by quarterback Ben Roethlisberger. He is joined by center Maurkice Pouncey and outside linebacker Joey Porter. To be considered for the Hall of Honor, a player must be retired for at least three seasons, have spent at least three seasons with the Steelers, and obviously have had a significant impact on the team during their tenure. Other members of the Hall of Honor include Terry Bradshaw, Joe Greene, Franco Harris, Jack Lambert, Jack Ham, Mel Blount, Mike Webster, Dermontti Dawson, John Stallworth, Rod Woodson, Troy Polamalu, Donnie Shell, Ernie Stautner, Jerome Bettis, and Alan Faneca. According to the team's press release, the Steelers will welcome the 2025 Hall of Honor Class when the team takes on the Miami Dolphins on Monday, Dec. 15. ESPN ranks Ravens above Eagles for best 2025 starting lineup
The post ESPN ranks Ravens above Eagles for best 2025 starting lineup appeared first on ClutchPoints. With the Baltimore Ravens entering the 2025 season, there is no doubt that the team will be under a lot of pressure and high expectations to compete for a Super Bowl. As ESPN listed Ravens star Lamar Jackson lower than people thought on their quarterback rankings, the same outlet had them No. 1 in the starting lineup rankings, even over the Super Bowl champions Philadelphia Eagles. ESPN analyst Mike Clay would speak about Baltimore being the No. 1 team, speaking about their strengths and weaknesses, along with the X-factors and nonstarters to know about. Funny enough, he would label the strength of the team being the quarterbacks in Jackson and saying that Cooper Rush is a 'solid backup,' while a weakness for the team is the guard spots on the offensive line. 'Lamar Jackson, an All-Pro in each of the past two seasons and the NFL MVP in 2019 and 2023, is one of the best in the business,' Clay wrote. 'He fell just short of his second consecutive MVP last season even though he led the league in QBR (77.3) and produced career-high marks in passing yards (4,172) and passing touchdowns (41, the second most in the league).' 'New year, same 'weakness' for a roster that is otherwise pretty stacked,' Clay continued. 'On the left side, Patrick Mekari is out and will be replaced by Andrew Vorhees, Ben Cleveland, or perhaps a rookie. Daniel Faalele returns on the right side after underwhelming as a run blocker and ranking among the worst in the league in run block win rate (71.8%).' ESPN explains why the Eagles are under the Ravens While the Ravens prepare for training camp, the team that rivals them as the top team in the league, according to ESPN, is the Eagles, who dominated the Kansas City Chiefs in the Super Bowl. As for their strengths, Clay would have offensive tackle, which makes sense since the team's offensive line is one of the best units every season, whereas edge rusher is a weakness for Philadelphia. 'The defending champs have many strengths, but it's tough to beat arguably the league's top tackle duo, with Jordan Mailata manning the left side and Lane Johnson on the right,' Clay wrote. 'Mailata ranked among the top tackles in PFF grade, pass block win rate, and run block win rate in both 2023 and 2024. Johnson is 35 years old but hasn't lost a step, ranking top 10 among tackles in pass and run block win rate last season.' 'Josh Sweat (free agency), Brandon Graham (retirement) and Bryce Huff (trade) are all gone, leaving Nolan Smith Jr. as the only established player on the depth chart,' Clay continued about the team's weakness. 'Smith is likely to be joined in the starting lineup by 2024 third-rounder Jalyx Hunt, who was a solid backup as a rookie.' It remains to be seen if ESPN's rankings will come true with the Ravens on top over the Eagles. Eagles' Jalen Hurts earns elite ranking from Dan Orlovsky
The post Eagles' Jalen Hurts earns elite ranking from Dan Orlovsky appeared first on ClutchPoints. Dan Orlovsky gave an elite ranking take on Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts. The Houston native has been doubted throughout his career as a good-but-not-great leader under center, since he's been in the national spotlight at just 18 years old. While the public has seen all the ups and downs throughout Hurts' career, Jalen proved many doubters wrong throughout the 2024 season, culminating in him winning Super Bowl MVP against the Kansas City Chiefs. That performance on the game's biggest stage has sparked a debate on where Hurts ranks among the elite quarterbacks in the NFL. Often, Jalen was viewed as a product of the great team around him, rather than as a terrific individual player. Recently, former NFL MVP Cam Newton took a bold stance, suggesting that the Eagles' leader under center is not a top-10 quarterback in the league. Orlovsky gave an almost opposite reaction to this debate in a recent video on Twitter, instead comparing Hurts to the likes of Patrick Mahomes. 'Jalen Hurts is the quarterback you have to go through in the NFC to win the Super Bowl. You have to go through Jalen Hurts. Whether you think he's Top 5 in the league at the position, Top 7, Top 10, Top 12, whatever, you have to go through Hurts to win the Super Bowl. If we're constantly going to talk about in relation to the AFC that Burrow is amazing, Lamar's incredible, Josh is outstanding, but you've got to go through Patrick, it's the same to be said about Jalen Hurts in the NFC.' The Eagles have now made it to the Super Bowl in two out of the last three years. Hurts has been the starting quarterback for the past four seasons, has been named to two Pro Bowls and one All-Pro team, while leading the City of Brotherly Love to its second title ever. Eagles fans know well enough that even when Hurts has not been at his best, he brings extra credentials both on and off the field as a leader that further enhance his value. That's probably his most undervalued intangible, as well as the tangible improvement he has shown every year since 2016. Overall, Hurts continues to break through the glass ceiling that critics have previously placed on him. And it's fair to assume that he'll do the same in 2025. While the Eagles' upcoming schedule is not easy, the NFC still runs through them until some other team takes the crown. With Hurts at the helm, it'll be very tough to do so, especially if critics continue to help him build that already huge chip on his shoulder.
