Woman killed after GetGo car crashes into Geylang ‘pasar malam' stall, driver arrested for dangerous driving
In a statement today, GetGo said preliminary findings indicated the car had been driven by someone who was not an authorised user.
'This is a severe breach of our terms of service, which are designed to protect our community,' the company said, as quoted by The Straits Times (ST).
It added that it is working closely with the authorities and extended its condolences to the victim's family, and police investigations are ongoing.
ST reported that the Singapore police were alerted to the incident at about 11.45pm, and the woman was pronounced dead at the scene by a paramedic from the Singapore Civil Defence Force.
The driver was arrested for dangerous driving causing death, as well as driving without a licence and insurance.
Photos of the scene posted on Facebook page SGRV Front Man yesterday showed a vehicle from car-sharing platform GetGo lodged against the side of a staircase, with visible damage and what appeared to be food debris on the car.
The area around the vehicle was in disarray, with items such as a table, styrofoam boxes and plastic bags strewn across the ground.

'The teenager received phone calls from three people posing as representatives from Touch 'n Go's headquarters and a police officer from the Perak police headquarters on July 1. 'They claimed certain parties had misused her particulars. They also alleged she was involved in fraud and money laundering cases,' Bernama reported him as saying. Sani said the victim, out of fear, handed over her mother's jewellery to the suspect at a meeting in a supermarket in Jertih town on July 2. He said the suspect promised to return the jewellery on the same day, but later told the teenager the jewellery had been kept by the police's forensics unit for further investigation. 'The teenager was then told she would have to pay RM28,000 to retrieve the jewellery. She lodged a police report upon realising she had been duped,' he said. Police arrested a 37-year-old woman in Kuala Besut yesterday and remanded her for four days until Friday to assist in investigations under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating.

District police chief Shofee Tayib said the boy was pronounced dead at the scene. He said initial investigations revealed that the boy had accompanied a friend who was carrying out drainage work and was resting on a nearby bridge when he was crushed by the falling tree in Parit Katik, Sanglang. No foul play is suspected and the case has been classified as one of sudden death.

"They claimed that her particulars had been misused and she was implicated in fraud and money laundering cases," he said in a statement on Tuesday (July 15). Md Sani said the victim then handed over her mother's jewellery to an unknown female suspect in a supermarket in Jertih town the next day (July 2). He said the suspect promised to return the jewellery the same day but later told the teenager that the jewellery had been kept by the Police forensics unit for further investigation. "The teenager was then told that she would have to pay RM28,000 to retrieve the jewellery. The teenager then lodged a police report upon realising she had been duped," he said.
