Immigration confirms British teen entered Malaysia on June 7
Its director-general Datuk Zakaria Shaaban said based on official records, the teenager entered the country on June 7.
Recently, British news webportal Daily Mail reported that David Balisong, from Cheadle, Greater Manchester, had left early for school on June 6 when he was supposed to sit for his A Level exams.
However, instead of taking the exams, he is believed to have boarded a one-way flight to Kuala Lumpur on the same day.
"Up to today, I can confirm that the youth had entered the country on June 7. However, there is no record of his departure," he told reporters at the Immigration Director-General's shooting trophy competition here today.
Zakaria said the department was working closely with the police in the search for the missing youth.
"At this point, we leave it to the police to continue with the search. Should there be any new developments or information, we will forward them to the police," he said.
Police have confirmed that a British teenager who recently arrived in Malaysia via Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) had been reported missing, with investigations now underway to locate him .
Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department deputy director (intelligence and operations) Datuk Fadil Marsus in a statement on July 10 said police were investigating a report lodged at KLIA's main terminal building regarding the teen's disappearance.
He said preliminary investigations indicated that the teenager is still in the country.
"Efforts to gather information that could assist in tracing and resolving the case are ongoing," he added.
He said the case is being handled as a missing persons case, and a picture of the teen has been released to facilitate public awareness and assistance.

Online gambling den busted in Serdang apartment raid, 496 illegal immigrants detained
SERDANG: Authorities have uncovered an illegal online gambling hub operating from three units of a four-storey apartment block in Pusat Bandar Putra Permai here. The gambling centre was busted during a joint raid by the Immigration Department, Subang Jaya City Council (MBSJ) and the General Operations Force on Tuesday (July 15) night. Immigration deputy director-general of operations Jafri Embok Taha said preliminary investigations revealed that the three units were registered under the names of three local individuals, based on utility bill records obtained. "When officers arrived at the residential units, the premises were already empty. It is believed that the suspects had fled, leaving behind only a few tablets, monitors, chairs and tables. 'We have handed over the case related to the discovery of the gambling hub to MBSJ for further investigation and action," he said during a press conference after the operation. He added that all three houses were equipped with closed-circuit television cameras to monitor movements outside, and their operations targeted customers among undocumented migrants residing in the apartment. Jafri Embok said 496 illegal immigrants were taken to the Semenyih Immigration detention centre after 741 foreigners were inspected in the operation, which ran from 10pm to 1am on Wednesday. "The suspected offences include violations under the Immigration Act 1959/63, Passport Act 1966, Immigration Regulations 1963 and the Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants Act 2007," he said. He added that similar joint operations will be conducted periodically, and the public is reminded not to employ, harbour or house foreigners without valid travel documents on their premises. Jafri Embok also said the department is implementing the Migrant Repatriation Programme (PRM) 2.0, running from May 19 this year until April 30, 2026. Under this programme, undocumented migrants are allowed to return to their home countries by paying a RM500 compound and a RM20 special pass fee. "In total, only RM520 is charged. In Selangor, there are four locations for the programme's implementation: Shah Alam, Kelana Jaya, Port Klang and Kajang," he said. - Bernama

Immigration dept busts illegal online gambling dens in Serdang apartment raid
SERDANG: The Immigration Department busted three residential units operating as illegal online gambling centres during an integrated operation at the Putra Permai Selesa apartment in Sri Kembangan last night. Immigration Department deputy director-general (Operations) Jafri Embok Taha said the discovery was made while officers were inspecting units suspected of housing undocumented migrants. "These premises were operating from residential units, which were converted into gambling dens. "The activities were carried out behind closed doors and away from public view," he said in a press conference after the operation. He said the units were believed to be operated by locals, but the employees and customers found inside were foreigners, many of whom are suspected to be illegal immigrants. "Our checks on electricity bills for the units showed that the accounts were registered under Malaysian names, further suggesting local ownership. "However, the individuals operating the systems and those found inside were all foreigners," Jafri added. He said the discovery would be referred to the Subang Jaya City Council (MBSJ) for further investigation and enforcement action. The illegal gambling dens were uncovered during Op Bersepadu, which began at 10pm and involved 217 officers from various enforcement agencies, including the Immigration Department, General Operations Force, Civil Defence Force, MBSJ and the National Registration Department. The operation led to the arrest of 496 illegal immigrants out of 741 foreigners inspected. Jafri said the department would continue working closely with other agencies to track and shut down illegal activities, especially those involving foreigners misusing residential properties. "These operations are part of our continuous efforts not just to detain illegal immigrants, but also to uncover criminal activities that may be taking root in residential areas," he said. He also urged the public to report any suspicious activities involving foreigners or illegal businesses operating within their neighbourhood to the authorities.
