Islamic Cultural Center hosts events for expatriate converts

The Sheikh Abdulla Bin Zaid Al Mahmoud Islamic Cultural Center, affiliated with the Ministry of Endowments (Awqaf) and Islamic Affairs, organised a series of sports, recreational, and educational activities in cooperation with Qatar Sports Club, which saw the participation of around 220 new Muslim converts from expatriate communities residing in Qatar.
In a statement released on Monday, the ministry said the initiative is part of the centre's broader social and educational programmes, which aim to support new converts and promote their positive integration into Qatari society, in line with the centre's religious and humanitarian mission.
The activities included football and volleyball matches, recreational games such as tug of war, and cultural competitions designed to enhance participants' religious knowledge and strengthen their Islamic identity.
The event drew wide participation from new converts of Asian and African backgrounds, who expressed their appreciation for the initiative, stating that it provided a welcoming environment for networking, sharing experiences, and engaging in sports and cultural interests.
Officials from the centre emphasised that these efforts are part of a comprehensive strategy to prepare new converts on religious, cultural, and social levels.
They added that partnerships with local sports clubs play a key role in advancing the mission of community institutions in supporting religious outreach and social integration programmes.

QNA Doha The Ministry of Sports and Youth and the National Service Academy have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) aimed at enhancing cooperation in youth development and talent cultivation among national service recruits. In a statement released on Monday, the Ministry of Sports and Youth said the MoU falls within the framework of strengthening joint efforts to support and empower Qatari youth with the aim to familiarise national service recruits with the programmes and activities offered by the ministry's affiliated youth centres and to encourage their active participation, thereby contributing to the development of their skills and talents across various fields. The agreement outlines a range of joint initiatives, including the organisation of an annual youth centre forum at the Academy and the implementation of the 'Live the National Service' programme targeting youth aged 15 to 17. Additionally, it encompasses youth activities and training sessions held at the Academy, along with the exchange of expertise and knowledge between both entities to enhance youth engagement in community service and align with the nation's vision of building an informed and capable generation. Undersecretary of the Ministry of Sports and Youth HE Engineer Yasir bin Abdullah Al Jamal affirmed that this partnership aligns with the ministry's vision to empower Qatari youth and expand their involvement in various developmental sectors. He added that the initiative is in line with the Third National Development Strategy (2024-2030), which places youth at the core of its priorities as a driving force for a sustainable and prosperous future. Al Jamal also praised the pivotal role of the National Service Academy in shaping the character of young people and instilling a strong sense of responsibility. For his part, President of the National Service Academy Brigadier-General Salem Masoud Al Hababi underscored the significance of the MoU in opening new avenues for national service recruits to benefit from the ministry's diverse programmes. He emphasised the positive impact such collaboration will have on enhancing their skills and developing their capabilities within a safe and motivating environment. The MoU exemplifies the spirit of institutional integration in Qatar, as both parties work together to nurture a proactive and responsible generation of youth capable of contributing to the nation's sustainable development goals. Commenting on the agreement, Director of the Youth Affairs Department at the Ministry of Sports and Youth Fawaz Abdullah Al Musaifri stated that the ministry is committed to a comprehensive approach in empowering all segments of youth in Qatar, adding that this will be achieved by designing high-quality programmes that meet their needs and aspirations while enhancing their skills and supporting the objectives of Qatar's National Youth Policy.

Qatari showjumping riders excel in Europe

QNA Doha Qatari riders continued with their brilliance in European arenas, achieving impressive results in international showjumping championships. Fahad bin Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani finished third in the intermediate round (130 cm - time trial) at the 2025 Herford-Luzer Championship in Germany, finishing the round in 59.78 seconds riding Krokant 31. The victory adds to Qatar's growing record of achievements in Europe. In another achievement, Qatar's Bassem Mohammed topped the CSIO3-W intermediate round (140 cm height - time trial) at the 2025 Budapest International Championship clocking 55.41 seconds on hos mount Popeye de Tamise.
