The Monsoon Session of Parliament began with shouting, slogans, and a full-blown clash between the government and the Opposition. As MPs raised slogans and tempers flared, the BJP took to X with a cheeky cartoon targeting the Opposition.On X (formerly Twitter), the BJP shared a cartoon showing Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla saying, 'Charcha shuru ki jaye'.On the other side, Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi were seen shouting, 'Charcha hogi toh poll khulegi, isiliye shor machao aur bhago.'On Day 1 of the Monsoon Session, Om Birla, visibly upset with the disruptions, asked MPs to maintain order and allow discussions to take place.'This is Question Hour. The government is willing to discuss every issue. Let the House run as per the rules,' he said.The Opposition, however, was in no mood to back down. Congress MP KC Venugopal said all INDIA bloc MPs had moved adjournment motions seeking a debate on the Pahalgam terror attack and Operation Sindoor.'We want this discussion in the Prime Minister's presence,' he said.He also criticised the Speaker for not allowing Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition, to speak while Union Ministers were given the floor.'The Defence and Parliamentary Affairs Ministers were allowed to speak, but not the LoP. That's not a fair discussion,' Venugopal said.He added, 'Let them start the discussion. We're ready.'The Monsoon Session will continue till August 21, with a short break from August 12 to 18. There will be a total of 21 sittings.

Namoshi urges State govt. to release pending remuneration for PU exam evaluators
BJP MLC Shashil G. Namoshi has strongly criticised the delay in disbursing remuneration and allowances to evaluators who assessed answer scripts of the II PU examination even after four months of the completion of valuation work. In a statement issued here on Sunday, Mr. Namoshi said that many guest lecturers who are not on government payrolls travelled at their own expense to participate in the evaluation process. 'They spent anywhere between ₹10,000 and ₹15,000 from their pockets on travel and accommodation, despite already facing financial hardship. Yet, they fulfilled their academic responsibilities. The State government's apathy towards them is highly disappointing,' he said. He pointed out that the State government has released ₹78 crore to the Karnataka School Examination and Assessment Board (KSEAB) as early as May for the purpose of paying evaluators. 'Despite this, evaluators of the first, second and third exams have not received their remuneration,' he said. The Karnataka Pre-University College Lecturers Association earlier called for a boycott of the third examination answer script evaluation in protest against the non-payment of dues for evaluating the first and second exam papers. The boycott was withdrawn after KSEAB officials promised them that payments will be processed through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) within four weeks. 'Trusting the board's commitment, lecturers resumed the valuation process for the third exam. But those assurances have not been honoured and the evaluators continue to remain unpaid. This is not the first time; similar delays occurred in both 2023 and 2024,' Mr. Namoshi said. He questioned the board's repeated failure to make timely payments. 'What is the purpose behind this consistent negligence?' he asked. Mr. Namoshi demanded immediate release of the pending remuneration, highlighting the financial burden borne by evaluators who travelled from different parts of the State to Bengaluru, spending from their own pockets for food, accommodation and transportation.

BJP legislators urge Karnataka government to hasten single layout approval in rural areas
The BJP legislators said on Monday that there is an inordinate delay in Urban Development Authorities (UDAs) approving sketches of single layouts in gram panchayat areas and that the government should hasten the process of issuing Forms 9 and 11 to single layout applicants on a priority basis. Speaking at a protest organised by BJP Udupi district unit on the premises of the Udupi Deputy Commissioner's office, MLA for Udupi, Yashpal Suvarna, and K. Prathapsimha Nayak, MLC, said that the cumbersome procedure involved in issuing Forms 9 and 11 has made people to run from pillar to post to sell their non-agricultural properties in rural area. Mr. Nayak alleged that the State government lacked the will power to expedite the single layout approval process. The MLC said that after the power to approve single layouts was transferred from Panchayat Development Officers (PDOs) to UDAs following a ruling by the Karnataka High Court, the government had not appointed enough staff to the UDAs to clear the files, leading to the piling up of pending files with the UDAs in the coastal districts. 'This is a typical problem restricted to only coastal districts,' Mr. Nayak said, adding that many people are waiting to get their non-agricultural properties registered or sold. Many people are unable to construct houses and avail themselves of loans for construction purposes. The MLC alleged that there appeared to be some conspiracy behind making people wait for a long time to get single layout approval. Mr. Suvarna said that people in Udupi and Dakshina Kannada districts are already facing a dearth of sand and laterite stones for building houses and other structures. The delay in obtaining approval for single layouts has added to the list of problems being faced by people. The MLA alleged that the government is acting as if it were not a major problem being faced by the people living under the jurisdiction of 399 gram panchayats in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts. 'The Congress government should not indulge in hate politics. Instead, it should address problems of coastal people,' he said. Kiran Kumar Kodgi, MLA for Kundapur, and BJP president for Udupi district, Kutyar Naveen Shetty, were among those who participated in the protest organised to seek to speed up the process of issuing Forms 9 and 11.

Vikas Barala dropped as law officer in Haryana advocate general's office, say sources
The name of BJP MP Subhash Barala's son Vikas Barala, appointed as a law officer in the office of the Haryana advocate general, has been dropped from the list as he did not join the post, official sources said on Monday (July 28, 2025). Vikas, an accused in a case of stalking, had been appointed as an assistant advocate general to represent the Haryana government before judicial platforms in the national capital. His appointment was part of a broader recruitment of 100 law officers by the government and which was officially notified on July 18, according to an appointment order issued in this regard recently. The official sources said since Vikas did not join, his name was dropped from the list of those appointed. When contacted, Haryana's Advocate General Pravindra Singh Chauhan said over the phone on Monday (July 28, 2025), "Vikas didn't join (assume charge)". "Generally, there is a timeframe of a week to ten days given, but if anyone does not join by then, we inform the government accordingly, the AG said over the phone. Told that some of those appointed as law officers are relatives of politicians and bureaucrats, Chauhan, without going into the specifics of those recruitments, said, "All those appointed are there only because of themselves. Don't go by the surnames. "It won't be correct to see all from one lens. They are competent lawyers and their selection has been made on merit." The advertisement for the appointments of the law officers was put out in January by the state government. In June, the state government constituted a "selection committee" under the Haryana Law Officers (Engagement) Act, 2016 for the finalisation of the selection process to engage 100 law officers, which included 20 additional advocate generals, 20 senior deputy advocate generals, 30 deputy advocate generals and 30 assistant advocate generals, following the January 31 advertisement. After Vikas Barala's appointment, the complainant in the stalking case slammed the move, saying that appointing someone to a public position of power is not only a political decision but it is also a reflection of values and standards. Accusation against Vikas Barala The incident leading to the charges against Vikas occurred in 2017 when his father was the Haryana BJP chief. Subhash Barala is currently a Rajya Sabha MP. The complainant had expressed her disappointment at the development. The woman had in her complaint accused Vikas and his friend of stalking and attempting to abduct her. Taking to social media last week but without naming Vikas directly, she issued a statement calling out the authorities involved in his appointment as a law officer. "Appointing someone to a public position of power is not only a political decision but it is also a reflection of values and standards. So, perhaps, the questions should be directed at the authorities whose ethics and standards allowed this decision to be made. Our policymakers run the country; the rest of us are just hoping they remember that they work for the Indian citizen," she said in her post. Vikas and his friend Ashish Kumar were charged with stalking and attempting to kidnap her by a court here in October 2017. The trial in the case is ongoing before a Chandigarh court. On August 5, 2017, Vikas, who was 23 at the time and a law student, along with Kumar, had allegedly followed her car in their SUV and tried to block the way. The charges against them were framed under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including 354d (stalking), 341 (wrongful restraint) and 365 read with 511 (attempt to kidnap). Initially, arrested on the night of August 4-5, 2017, they were released on bail as their charges were bailable under the IPC and the Motor Vehicles Act. They were later re-arrested on August 9, 2017, after cooperating with the investigation, but received bail again from the high court in January 2018.
