Amon-Ra St. Brown thrived against zone coverage in 2024
The top receivers are excellent against both but can also still be better at one over the other. In the case of Lions wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown, he ended up as one of the top receivers against zone coverage in 2024, according to Pro Football Focus.
Here's what PFF had to say about St. Brown, who ranked fifth overall against zone coverage:
"St. Brown placed third in PFF receiving grade against zone coverage in 2023 (91.0) and led all receivers in zone targets (112), catches (84), receiving yards (1,180) and first downs (56).
He picked up right where he left off in 2024, hauling in 91 of 107 targets for 1,048 yards (second most) and 51 first downs. St. Brown again led the league in targets, catches and first downs against zone while tying for the fourth-best zone catch rate (85.0%). He caught three touchdowns, forced 12 missed tackles and secured 12 of 17 contested targets, capping his season with a 116.0 passer rating targeted against zone."
St. Brown was one of only two receivers to see at least 100 targets against zone coverage -- the other was Vikings wide receiver Justin Jefferson. He was also one of only two players to record over 1,000 yards against zone coverage, along with Bengals wide receiver Ja'Marr Chase. Those three receivers were joined by Rams WR Puka Nacua and Texans WR Nico Collins in the top five, with Nacua and Collins landing the top two spots.
Expect more zone coverage for St. Brown, including right out of the gate, in 2025. Their Week 1 opponent, the Green Bay Packers, were primarily a zone team in 2024, running it about 78% of the time last season.

2026 NFL Draft Summer Scouting Report: James Brockermeyer, C, Miami (FL)
Summer is here, and it is everyone's favorite time of the year, scouting time. Every year, we do Summer Scouting to preview college football for Bucs fans, but also give them an idea of names to follow and watch in the fall as needs pop up for Tampa Bay. Are we going to write about quarterbacks? You know it, but why? Because other NFL teams will draft them, just as they will draft every other position. It all matters whether these players end up on the Bucs, the Bears, or the Steelers. We write these so Bucs fans can be the most informed fans. So if you are still with us, enjoy our latest Summer Scouting report as we prepare you for the Fall. Player Information Player: James Brockermeyer School: Miami (FL) Height/Weight: 6-3/295 lbs. Player Background - 4-Star Recruit - Under Armour All-American - Transferred from Alabama to TCU to Miami (FL) - All-Big 12 Honorable Mention in 2024 Career Stats Heading into the 2025 Season - 28 Career Games - 26 Career Starts Notable PFF Numbers Heading into the 2025 Season - 67.7 PFF Run Blocking Grade - 81.1 PFF Pass Blocking Grade - 343 Run Blocking Snaps - 506 Pass Blocking Snaps Player Traits - Will finish blocks and take defenders out of plays - Can be lean-looking but uses his weight and leverage well - Good initial punch into defenders - Good anchor ability - Can recover well if beaten by defenders Player Summary James Brockermeyer has been in the college ranks for years now, but he has yet to build up a strong resume. Last year at TCU, he finally showed some promise with some meaningful reps. He demonstrated good power and punch ability into defenders, as well as a good base to handle pass rushers. He looks lean on film but he has some good leverage skills, and it allows him to not get beaten as often as you would think when watching him. At this point, Brockermeyer needs more reps, plain and simple. Once he gets that, we could be looking at a reliable interior offensive lineman in the NFL.

How to watch NSW Waratahs vs British & Irish Lions Lions: Live stream the 2025 rugby game for FREE
From a tactical viewpoint, you'll be hard-pressed to find anyone who considers Owen Farrell a better replacement for the injured Elliot Daly than, say, Blair Murray or Tom Jordan (the latter of whom is already on tour in New Zealand). From a neutral perspective, it's pure gold. Can the Waratahs turn the media circus to their advantage? You can watch Waratahs vs Lions live streams from anywhere with a VPN and potentially for FREE. The Waratahs vs Lions live stream takes place on Saturday, July 5. • Time: 6 a.m. ET / 3 a.m. PT / 11 a.m. BST / 8 p.m. AEST• FREE STREAM — RugbyPass TV (U.S.)• STREAM — Sky Sports (U.K.)• Watch anywhere — try NordVPN 100% risk free It's not just that Farrell is the son of Lions coach Andy Farrell. The former England captain's last taste of competitive rugby came two months ago, and he only lasted 18 minutes. He hasn't played international rugby in nearly two years, and even then, his boot-heavy approach is at complete odds with the expansive style that his father is trying to implement. The opening game defeat to Argentina aside, it's been plain-sailing for the Lions, who've hammered Western Force and the Queensland Reds by a combined score of 106-19, scoring 16 tries in the process. Farrell Sr. has made 14 changes to the lineup that will take to the field at Sydney Football Stadium on Saturday, with Huw Jones the only man to retain his place. It's a big risk. Northampton duo Fin Smith and Alex Mitchell take over from Finn Russell and Jamison Gibson-Park, Tadhg Beirne takes the armband and, fresh from winning the Top 14, Blair Kinghorn makes his Lions debut at left wing. Triston Reilly and Langi Gleeson carry the threat for the New South Wales outfit. Here's how to watch Waratahs vs Lions live streams from anywhere in the world, and potentially for free. Most Important Lions of 2025: Healthy Derrick Barnes is a much-needed addition to the D
Here's the play where Lions LB Derrick Barnes gets hit low and exits the game with a knee injury. Pretty unfortunate. #OnePride It's been an eventful year for Detroit Lions linebacker Derrick Barnes. Most recently, he signed a three-year contract extension worth $25.5 million dollars with $16 million dollars guaranteed. Prior to that, he was playing some of the best football of his career and it was clear that he was building a defined role on the defense. However, there's some uncertainty on if Barnes will have limitations coming off an injury. Last season there were unfortunate circumstances with Barnes getting lost to the season with a knee injury. This occurred after a cut block in week 3 against the Arizona Cardinals. The blocker hit Barnes low and at an awkward angle, and immediately Barnes was left grabbing his knee. Despite some hope that he could return, it was ultimately revealed late last season that Barnes wouldn't return. Now Barnes is back, playing under a new contract, and he's been a full go up to this point of the off-season. It's been said from Barnes that he 'expects to have the same role' for Kelvin Sheppard as he did for Aaron Glenn. Obviously, that is yet to be see,n but plenty of attention will be focused on Barnes and what he can do coming off a serious knee injury. It was clear last season that Barnes was missed for the Lions defense. Having a versatile defender that can align in the middle of the defense or stand up off the edge is important for any defense. That's no different in Detroit. Additionally, seeing the injuries sustained to Alex Anzalone and Malcolm Rodriguez left the Lions scrambling to find help at linebacker next to Jack Campbell. It's evident that having a healthy Derrick Barnes is important and him staying healthy is just as important. It's hard to find a player to fill his spot on a consistent basis. Meanwhile, he'll need to play up to his new contract. All the signs point to that happening this season, but if it doesn't, the Lions could be left scrambling to put the pieces together as the season goes on.
