Player Summary
James Brockermeyer has been in the college ranks for years now, but he has yet to build up a strong resume. Last year at TCU, he finally showed some promise with some meaningful reps. He demonstrated good power and punch ability into defenders, as well as a good base to handle pass rushers. He looks lean on film but he has some good leverage skills, and it allows him to not get beaten as often as you would think when watching him. At this point, Brockermeyer needs more reps, plain and simple. Once he gets that, we could be looking at a reliable interior offensive lineman in the NFL.

Liberty badly missing injured Jonquel Jones' presence on defense
We've got you covered on the Liberty beat Join Post Sports+ for exciting subscriber-only features, including real-time texting with Madeline Kenney about all things Liberty and WNBA. tRY IT NOW The importance of Jonquel Jones has never been more evident than over the two-plus weeks when she's been sidelined by an ankle sprain. Jones is the glue of the Liberty on both ends of the floor. Without her, their play looks out of sorts. Offensively, the Liberty have managed to make do without Jones, for the most part. They're getting plenty of good looks and still lead the league in points per game, though possessions, at times, can lag. Defensively, though, is where the Liberty missed Jones most. She is, in a lot of ways, the air traffic controller of the paint and the team's best rim protector. The Liberty's defensive rating when Jones is on the court is 83.7, but when she's on the sidelines, it balloons to 102.6, per WNBA advanced stats. The Liberty have struggled without Jonquel Jones (No. 35) on defense. Getty Images Jones said this week she was upset that her ankle injury derailed her All-Star campaign. But there's no doubt in Sandy Brondello's mind that Jones, when healthy, has been one of the league's best players. 'Look JJ, I think you see when you look at someone, [do] they also have an impact on their team? And you see that she has a very big impact on our team,' Brondello said. 'She was playing great. She's just this comfort blanket. For me, she's an All-Star.' It's still unclear when Jones might be cleared to play. The Liberty said June 21 that she'd be out for 4-6 weeks. Breanna Stewart wasn't happy with the way she started the season, especially when it came to her rebounding efforts. Stewart had three or fewer rebounds in four of the team's first eight games. To put it bluntly, Stewart said her rebounding 'wasn't up to my standard.' But as of late, especially with the Liberty missing Jones, Stewart has been far more aggressive in that area. Jonquel Jones (No. 35) blocks a shot during the Liberty-Mystics game on May 30, 2025. NBAE via Getty Images Stewart notched her third double-double this season Thursday, recording 17 points and a season-high 14 rebounds. Over the last five games, Stewart is averaging 9.4 boards per game. 'I want to clean up everything for my teammates and really getting back to that standard of just being aggressive on the boards, even on the offensive end,' Stewart said. 'It's hard. It's hard when you have to box out the other teams on defense and I want them to feel that same pressure.' Might Unrivaled co-founders and UConn alumni Stewart and Napheesa Collier team up at All-Star weekend later this month? Stewart didn't rule out the possibility that a backroom, handshake deal has already been made with Collier. 'I know things that you don't,' she quipped. 'So that's all I got to say.'

Raleigh hits Nos. 34 and 35 to match Griffey's Mariners record for HRs before All-Star break
SEATTLE (AP) — Cal Raleigh hit his 34th and 35th home runs to set a career high and match Ken Griffey Jr.'s Seattle record for homers before the All-Star break, helping the Mariners beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 6-0 on Friday The major league leader turned on a fastball from Bailey Falter (6-4) in the first inning and walloped it well past the wall in left. The exit velocity on the two-run shot was logged at 115.2 mph, per Statcast — the hardest-hit ball of his career. Raleigh topped his previous career high — set last season — in the sixth with a solo shot that chased Falter. The Mariners only mustered one other hit off the left-hander, but it was also a home run courtesy of Randy Arozarena in the fourth inning. Mariners starter Bryan Woo (8-4) went six innings. The Pirates came a few inches away from taking a 2–0 lead in the first inning when Oneil Cruz lofted a pop-up toward no man's land in left field. Arozarena made an improbable catch to end the inning and strand two Pittsburgh runners. Key stat Woo has worked at least six innings all 17 starts this season. Up next Seattle RHP Luis Castillo (4-5, 3.55) was set to start Saturday against RHP Mike Burrows (1-2, 4.15). ___

Natasha Cloud's WNBA All-Star Game case isn't straightforward
The Liberty will be well represented at All-Star weekend in Indianapolis later this month. We've got you covered on the Liberty beat Text with Madeline Kenney as she follows the Liberty — she's sharing behind-the-scenes info and insights with Sports+ subscribers. SIGN UP NOW Breanna Stewart and Sabrina Ionescu were named All-Star starters earlier this week. And coach Sandy Brondello was tabbed to coach Team Napheesa Collier because the Liberty had the second-best winning percentage as of Thursday. Two more Liberty players — Natasha Cloud and Jonquel Jones — are holding out hope they'll hear their names called Sunday when the league unveils the 12 reserves, who are picked by the league coaches. Jones had a case to be an All-Star starter, averaging 15.6 points and 11.3 rebounds in the first six games before spraining her right ankle. She's been limited to just nine games, and while there's not a required minimum games played to be named an All-Star, it seems unlikely considering the circumstances.
