Yahoo15-07-2025
EXCLUSIVE: Oscar winner Dianne Wiest and Oscar nominee Stockard Channing are set to return for Practical Magic 2, Warner Bros. Pictures' sequel to the 1998 romantic fantasy starring Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock.
The pair reprise their roles as Aunt Jet and Aunt Franny, the eccentric and wise matriarchs who took in witch sisters Sally (Sandra Bullock) and Gillian Owens (Nicole Kidman) following the death of their parents and taught them everything they know about magic, mischief, and self-reliance.

Production on the sequel is now underway, with Bullock and Kidman returning. Joey King has now locked down the role of Sally's daughter, after being tipped as being in talks. Rounding out the cast, we have Lee Pace (Foundation), Maisie Williams (The New Look), Xolo Maridueña (Blue Beetle), and Solly McLeod (The Dead Don't Hurt). Character details for the newcomers are under wraps, as is the plot of the sequel, to be released in theaters worldwide on September 18, 2026.
First announced last summer, the new Practical Magic movie is being directed by Susanne Bier (The Perfect Couple, Bird Box). Akiva Goldsman, who co-wrote the original film, has returned to write the script with Georgia Pritchett (Succession). Bullock and Kidman are producing alongside the original film's Denise Di Novi.
In a statement on today's castings, the Practical Magic filmmaking team said, 'Twenty-five years ago, Sally, Gillian, Aunt Jet and Aunt Franny flew off the pages of Alice Hoffman's beloved novel and into theaters around the world, and we are thrilled to bring the Owens family back to the big screen with Joey, Lee, Maisie, Solly and Xolo joining the next chapter in our story. The enduring affection for these characters has been our inspiration to deliver the next installment in the Owens' story to new fans, and those who've been with us since the beginning.'
Directed by Griffin Dunne, Practical Magic adapted the 1995 novel from Alice Hoffman. The story introduces Sally and Gillian Owens as sisters who come from a long line of witches. Raised by their eccentric aunts in a magical household, they must confront a deadly curse and their own powers when love and danger collide. The original film grossed over $68M worldwide.
Wiest is repped by CAA; Channing by Markham, Froggatt and Irwin, CAA, Anonymous Content, and Hansen, Jacobson, Teller; Pace by WME and Peikoff Mahan; Williams by Curtis Brown Group, Ocean Avenue, and Jackoway Austen Tyerman; Maridueña by UTA, Valor Entertainment Group, and Hansen, Jacobson, Teller; and McLeod by CAA, The Artists Partnership, and manager Arjun Rose.

Timothée Chalamet & James Mangold Motocross Heist Pitch Has Town Revving: The Dish

EXCLUSIVE: The Town is abuzz over High Side, a package based on an unpublished short story by Jaime Oliveira that looms as a potential reteam of Timothée Chalamet and James Mangold. They are just coming off A Complete Unknown, the Bob Dylan smash that got eight Oscar nominations. Chernin Entertainment is attached as producer. Sugar23, which reps Oliveira, is out to the town with the short story pitch package that also is making a buzz in publishing circles. In High Side, Billy is a former MotoGP racer, who is haunted by a career-ending crash and a family legacy of abandonment but is drawn back into the world of high-speed risks and extreme danger. His estranged brother, already being pursued by the FBI, recruits him for a series of bank robberies on superbikes. A gifted motocross rider, Billy walked away from the sport after a devastating accident, and he has been making do caring for his addict father and the family garage. He's blindsided when his estranged older brother Cole resurfaces — just after their father's death — with a proposition: use Billy's talents for something bigger: robbing banks. Cole assembles a mismatched crew, including a woman who becomes Billy's lover, and they begin knocking over small-town desert banks with speed and precision. But as the stakes rise, Lennox, an FBI agent who has a complicated history with Cole, closes in as the crew preps its biggest score: a bank job timed with a big motorcycle parade. There are high-speed action and emotional twists and turns in the climax. Scarlett Johansson and Adam Driver Fighting in ‘Marriage Story' Is Being Used by the USDA to Scare Off Wolves and Save Cattle: ‘They Need to Know Humans Are Bad'

A new report from The Wall Street Journal reveals that audio of Scarlett Johansson and Adam Driver screaming at each other in Noah Baumbach's 'Marriage Story' is being used by the United States Department of Agriculture to scare off wolves from killing cattle and scaring livestock on farms across the America. The fight scene is the most emotionally volatile moment in Baumbach's 2019 drama, which earned both Johansson and Driver Oscar nominations. Per the WSJ: 'Riding to the rescue are drone cowhands, whose quadcopters have thermal cameras that can reveal any wolf lurking in the darkness and bathe it in a spotlight. A loudspeaker broadcasts alarming sounds like fireworks, gunshots and people arguing. One recording is of the fight between Scarlett Johansson and Adam Driver in the movie 'Marriage Story.'' 'Wolf hazing,' as the practice is called, also uses loud music like AC/DC's 'Thunderstruck' to scare off deadly wolves. The USDA has relied on drones because gray wolves had long been on the federal government's list of endangered species. The process seems to be working. As the WSJ reported: 'Drones were deployed in the Klamath Basin of southern Oregon after 11 cows were killed by wolves there in a 20-day period. Over the next 85 days when drones were on patrol, only two were killed.' 'Marriage Story' stars Johansson and Driver as a couple going through a bitter divorce and custody battle over their son. The movie earned critical acclaim after premiering at the 2019 Venice Film Festival. Variety's Owen Gleiberman named 'Marriage Story' the second best movie of 2019. 'Adam Driver and Scarlett Johansson, in spectacular performances that work together with searing intimacy, enact the anger, pride, despair, and passion of a couple who tear their relationship apart, and their souls too, even as they both struggle to remain whole inside,' Gleiberman wrote. ''Marriage Story' tells the story of divorce in our time, and in doing so it earns a place next to those harrowing and heartrending texts of separation, 'Kramer vs. Kramer' and 'Scenes from a Marriage.'' Sharon Stone says she still makes more money modeling than acting

Sharon Stone has been a Hollywood icon for over a quarter century, but when it comes to getting paid, her acting work isn't the most lucrative. "I still make more money today modeling than in film," Stone, 67, told Business Insider. "It's still a huge part of my reality." Stone started her career as a model, quitting school at 15 and moving to New York City to enter the fashion world. She was quickly signed by Ford Modeling Agency and found herself working regularly in Milan and Paris. By 19, she returned to New York and began pursuing acting as a path to her initial goal: directing. "Back then, I wanted to be a director, but the pesky vagina has stood in my way. Because how could you possibly have a brain and a vagina?" Stone told BI. "It seems to have confounded so many." In those early days, Stone rollerbladed around Manhattan to her auditions, her giant modeling portfolio in tow. She got her big break in 1980, when she was cast as one of the extras in Woody Allen's "Stardust Memories," and was later asked to step in for a spot in the movie's opening scene, where Allen, sitting on a train, sees a beautiful woman across from him on another train. "I was 19 and they put me in this tight dress, and I was so awkward about my body," Stone recalled. "The hair person put a real gardenia in my hair. It really meant the world to me that she did that. It made me feel important." Stone became a hot commodity in Hollywood after "Stardust Memories." After regularly working in B-movies through the 1980s like "King Solomon's Mines" and "Police Academy 4," she landed the role that would change her life when she scored the female lead in the 1992 sensation "Basic Instinct." Though the role made her an icon, she wasn't paid like one. In 2023, Stone revealed she was paid $500,000 for "Basic Instinct" while her costar Michael Douglas earned $14 million. She went on to earn an Oscar nomination in 1996 for her performance opposite Robert De Niro in Martin Scorsese's "Casino," and won an Emmy in 2004 for her guest spot on "The Practice." But her career was also dogged by money troubles: the actor revealed in 2024 that she lost $18 million in savings after suffering a stroke in 2001. "When I got back into my bank account, it was all gone. My refrigerator, my phone — everything was in other people's names," Stone said. "I had zero money." Over the years, Stone has modeled for high fashion brands like Dior and Dolce & Gabbana, and recently did ads for Mugler. "I'm still one of the oldest women consistently modeling today," Stone said. "I'm very, very grateful I still get to do it." Next, Stone will star in "Nobody 2," opening in theaters August 15.
