RM195.35m approved for Sabah infrastructure projects under KPKT
Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming said that all approved projects would be carried out this year and overseen by 11 agencies under the ministry.
He said the allocation includes RM60.39 million for development projects, such as the construction of a car park in Foh Sang (Kota Kinabalu), a multi-purpose hall in Ranau, a marketplace in Putatan, and slope repair works.
'A total of RM39.78 million has been allocated under the ministry's Housing Planning Division for 10 Residensi Rakyat and People's Housing Programme projects in Kionsom, Pitas, Lahad Datu, Kota Belud, Beaufort, Kibabaig, Sandakan, Lahad Datu, Kuala Penyu and Tuaran.
'Meanwhile, RM24.48 million has been set aside for the Rumah Mesra Rakyat projects, under the supervision of Syarikat Perumahan Negara Berhad,' he told reporters after officiating the Putera Kiansom Residensi Rakyat project and handing over keys to residents here today.
Nga said RM13.74 million has been allocated to the National Landscape Department for upgrading and developing public parks throughout Sabah, developing the Kota Kinabalu Botanical Garden and conducting a master plan study for the Keningau District Council.
In addition, RM7.77 million has been approved for the Sabah Fire and Rescue Department for the construction and upgrading of fire stations in Putatan, Lahad Datu, Beaufort, Merotai, Kota Belud and Semporna.
Commenting on the Putera Kiansom Residensi Rakyat project, Nga said under the MADANI government's leadership, KPKT has successfully completed the long-delayed project, which began nearly 22 years ago.
'The project received its Certificate of Occupancy (OC) on May 5 this year for Blocks A, B, C and D. It was first initiated in 2003 under the Third Rolling Plan 3 of the 8th Malaysia Plan but was delayed due to issues with incompetent contractors,' he said.
He also expressed confidence that the remaining six blocks would be completed by the end of August and fully occupied before year-end.
The Putera Kiansom Residensi Rakyat project features five-storey apartment blocks constructed on a six-hectare site, comprising 1,000 housing units measuring 750 square feet each, with a total development cost of RM152.9 million. - Bernama

The rating system is part of the Malaysian Smart City Framework 2019-2025. Johor Baru mayor Datuk Mohd Haffiz Ahmad said the council had applied for the recognition based on MS ISO 37122: Indicators for SmartCity Standard. This standard, comprising 85 indicators, was developed by the Housing and Local Government Ministry through PLANMalaysia together with the Standards Department. It is part of an accreditation process to ensure the country achieves the Smart City Agenda. 'We are undergoing two audit sessions as part of the verification and validation process for the national smart city rating. 'The council submitted its application via the National Smart City Platform between April 7 and June 6, with assessment sessions held from June 16 to 20,' he said during the council's monthly full board meeting at Menara MBJB. MBJB had been awarded level two status in 2024. Mohd Haffiz: We are undergoing two audit sessions as part of the verification and validation process. At the time, it had joined Putrajaya Corporation as one of only two local authorities in Malaysia to have reached the second of four levels under the national framework. Mohd Haffiz said MBJB's efforts are in response to a vision that had been outlined by Johor Mentri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi to position Johor Baru as a future-ready city. 'This rating system will help enhance investor confidence and strengthen Johor Baru's position as a high-potential urban hub,' he added. As of now, no city council in Malaysia has achieved the level three or four mark. A level three accreditation for MBJB would pave the way for Johor Baru to become the first Malaysian city to be recognised as a Leading Smart City under the rating system. This status requires advanced integration of data systems, inter-agency coordination and citizen-centric digital services. Previously, state housing and local government committee chairman Datuk Mohd Jafni Md Shukor had said that the Johor government is aiming for all 16 local councils in the state to achieve Smart City status by next year. He had also expressed hope that MBJB would reach level three by the first quarter of 2026.

Federal govt allocates RM8.79b to roll out 86 projects under 12MP in Sabah
KOTA KINABALU: The federal government, through the Energy Transition and Water Transformation Ministry, has allocated RM8.79 billion until June 2025 to implement 86 development projects in Sabah. Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, who is also the energy transition and water transformation minister, said the total allocation will be disbursed under the Fifth Rolling Plan (RP5) of the 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP). "Sabah has received a fairly large allocation from the federal government, it is our commitment to resolve two key issues in Sabah, namely, water and energy. "Because without energy and water, there can be no economic growth in Sabah," he said when speaking at the ministry Engagement Session with Sabah Media in 2025 here tonight. He said the Madani government is always striving to ensure that Sabah continues to prosper together as a big Malaysian family. Therefore, Sabah's progress is not only the responsibility of this state, but of the entire nation. "With strong federal-state relations, we can build a more prosperous, just as well as sustainable state and country, with the support of a free and trustworthy media and a united people," he said. Meanwhile, Fadillah also said the engagement session was intended as a platform for the media to better understand the role of ministry and agencies under its auspices.
