NMC forecast: Thunderstorms to hit most regions of Saudi Arabia until Monday
RIYADH— The National Center of Meteorology (NCM) stated that most regions of Saudi Arabia are expected to be experienced by moderate to heavy thunderstorms until Monday, April 21.
These include the regions of Jazan, Asir, Al-Baha, Makkah, Madinah, Hail, Qassim, Riyadh, the Eastern Province, and Najran.
The center said that rain is expected to be accompanied by active dust storm, reaching speeds of up to 50 km per hour, along with flash floods, hail, in addition to the possibility of high waves on the coasts and tornadoes or waterspouts.
The NMC urged the public to follow the reports and warnings issued regarding the expected weather condition through the center's website, social media, and the Anwaa application.

Why do we see hail in summer? According to meteorologists, hail during summer occurs when surface temperatures are warm, but the upper atmosphere is still cold enough to support ice. Hail can occur during summer due to strong updrafts in convective clouds. These strong updrafts, fueled by rising warm air, carry water droplets and ice particles high into the atmosphere, where they freeze and become hailstones. Relief from heat The rain and hail bring some respite from the high temperatures the coountry has been witnessing this summer. Last week, UAE recorded the highest temperature of the summer season so far. A temperature of 49.9°C was recorded in Mezaira (Al Dhafra region) on June 21. Average temperatures have remained over 45°C of late, with last month being the hottest May in over 20 years in the UAE with temperature hitting 51.6°C.

UAE's NCM records 6.3 magnitude earthquake in southern Philippines
A powerful earthquake shook the southern Philippines early Saturday morning, June 28, with tremors also recorded by seismic stations in the UAE. According to the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM), a 6.3-magnitude earthquake was detected in the Philippines at 3.07am UAE time. However, in the Philippines, authorities confirmed the tremor as a magnitude 6.1 earthquake that struck off the coast of Davao Occidental at 7.07am local time. The quake prompted residents to evacuate homes as tremors were felt across several provinces. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) initially measured the quake at magnitude 6.9 but later downgraded it to 6.1. The epicentre was located 85km southeast of Sarangani town, with a depth of 79 km. The quake was tectonic in nature. Despite the intensity of the tremors, Phivolcs confirmed that there is no tsunami threat linked to the seismic activity.

UAE weather tomorrow: Fair to party cloudy day, 43°C maximum in Dubai
The weather in the UAE on Saturday, June 28, is expected to be fair to partly cloudy in general, with clouds appearing eastward by afternoon, according to the copuntry's National Center of Meteorology (NCM). It will be humid by Saturday night and Sunday morning over some coastal areas. Light to moderate southwesterly to northwesterly winds, freshening at times, are expected, with a speed of 10–20kmph, reaching 35kmph. The sea will be slight in the Arabian Gulf and in Oman Sea. Temperatures in Dubai is expected to range between 32°C minimum and 43°C maximum, while in Abu Dhabi it will be between 30°C and 40°C. Temperatures in Sharjah will range between 30°C and 44°C. The highest temperature recorded over the country on Friday, June 27, was 49.9°C in Sweihan (Al Ain) at 2pm UAE local time.
