The couple had an explosive split in 2009 after four years of marriage, when Princess was just two years old.
While Princess was too young to really remember her parents together, she has traumatic memories of the breakdown of Katie's third marriage to Kieran Hayler.
In her new ITV2 series - The Princess Diaries - the teen opens up about her younger years and admits: "I did have a counsellor, I do still see her every now and then.
"But I don't feel like I can really talk, so I just write everything down in my notes.
"I do wish, like, I could have had a more happier childhood. In the sense of like, I had so many things on my plate at a young age."
She continued: "I wish sometimes that I wasn't like that and I could have actually enjoyed...not had things in the back of my mind so young."
Katie, 47, and Kieran were married from 2013 until 2018, when they split following his extramarital affair with Katie's best friend.
Speaking to the camera, Princess said: "Obviously I had amazing times in my childhood, I have amazing memories from when I was younger with my mum and my dad, and I also have not so good memories of the time when my mum and Kieran split up, when I was like, 10 years old.
"He was in our lives for like five years, so we got really close to him and we loved him.
"He did a lot of stuff and when they split up, everything kind of went downhill.
Emotional Peter Andre reveals strict rule for Princess and Junior
"My mum, obviously being heartbroken, didn't deal with that in the best way, she went through a very, very dark time, which is understandable.
"Which is hard for me because I was around adulty things that kids should never see and I think as well, when we needed our mum there, she wasn't emotionally able to be there because she had so much of her own problems going on."
Princess added how she would regularly come home from school and "get into bed and cry" over things people were saying or asking in the school ground relating to her famous mum.
She added: "I would never go and speak to my dad about it because I obviously have always grown up with 'my mum and dad don't like each other' which is fair enough, they're not going to."
I wouldn't say I'm fully, fully recovered from it
Princess Andre
Princess concluded: "I could speak about my childhood and be absolutely fine, but then once something sets me off and then I actually deep everything, I'm like 'Oh my God, like no'.
"And then it makes me think that I'm still not over anything or still not really healed from what's happened.
"I wouldn't say I'm fully, fully recovered from it but mum is such a different person and if you put her now to back then, she's genuinely really fixed herself."

Princess Andre shares sad reason she couldn't speak to dad Peter about mum Katie Price
Katie Price and Peter Andre's daughter Princess has revealed that she cried herself to sleep instead of speaking to her dad about her mum's issues Princess Andre has revealed the sad reason why she couldn't speak to her dad Peter Andre about her mum Katie Price following their bitter divorce. In her brand-new ITV series, The Princess Diaries, which airs on Sunday night on ITV, the influencer and model, 18, is set to open up about how her parents' estranged relationship has affected her through her childhood and teenage years. Earlier this summer, Princess announced the exciting news of the ITV show, which will offer a behind-the-scenes look into her life and burgeoning career as a model, focusing on her relationship with her family. It comes after her mum Katie, 47, revealed that Princess has moved out in another swipe at ex Peter. In the first episode of her reality TV series, Princess opened up about why she felt she could never speak to her dad, Peter, 52, about her mum following their bitter split and the fact they haven't spoken in years. During the episode, Princess speaks to her mum on the phone while she's away on holiday in Dubai. After the call, Princess admitted that she and her famous mum are more alike that people would think and revealed that they are now closer than ever - with her mum even baring all on FaceTime. "She had her boobs out," Princess laughed. "She's just casually out of the shower with her top off. Like, she just doesn't care. I never answer the phone to my mum when I'm around people. Because when she's on the phone, she's so unpredictable. "She just lives life. She actually doesn't care and I actually really, really, look up to that. I would love to have that mindset of 'I don't care', because deep down I always do care. I won't show any emotion but then I'll get to my bed and I'll cry and cry and cry. "On my own, I don't handle it very well but to other people I would seem to fine and so good." Princess went on to address not being able to talk to her dad Peter about her mum as she revealed that she has been in counselling. "I do have a counsellor and I do sometimes see her every now and again. But I don't feel like I can really ever talk so I just write everything down in my notes. I do wish that I could have had a more happier childhood," Princess admitted. The 18-year-old told the cameras that she had 'so much on her plate' when it came to navigating her childhood with two famous parents who didn't get along. The influencer went on: "I had so many things on my plate at such a young age. "I wish sometimes that it wasn't like that and I could have actually enjoyed it and not had things in the back of my mind so young. Obviously, I had amazing times in my childhood, I have so many amazing memories with my mum and my dad, but I also have lots of not-so-good memories of the time when my mum and Kieran split up." Katie and Kieran officially split in May 2018. While they were married from 2013 to 2021, they separated in 2018, with Katie accusing Kieran of cheating. The divorce proceedings were finalised three years later, in 2021 and the former couple share two children Jett and Bunny. "It happened when I was ten years old and he was in our lives for like five years. So, we got really close to him and obviously we loved him, but he did a lot of stuff and when they split up, everything kind of went downhill with my mum obviously being heartbroken. "She didn't deal with that in the best way. She went through a very, very, dark time which is understandable. But it was hard for me because I was around adult things that kids should never see. "And I think when we needed our mum there, she wasn't emotionally able to be there because she had so much of her own problems going on." Princess then confessed that she would bottle up her emotions in public but cry alone at home because she felt she was never able to open up to her dad about how she was feeling, because it was all down to her mum's actions and sadness. "I remember coming home from school, and I would literally just cry in bed at 11 years old. I would never go speak to my dad about it because the way I've grown up, I obviously know that my mum and my dad don't like each other, which is fair enough, they are not going to. "I could speak about my childhood and everything that happened and I would be absolutely fine, but then, once something sets me off, and when I actually deep everything, it makes me realise. Then it makes me think that maybe I'm still not over everything, and I'm still not healed from what has happened. "I wouldn't say I'm fully recovered from it, but mum is such a different person now. If you compare her now to how she was back then, she has genuinely really fixed herself. She has apologised to me and I never wanted an apology from her but I think it meant a lot that she kind of acknowledged it. "We're so close now and we do a lot of things together and we talk all the time. I love her. She's like my best friend." The Princess Diaries debuts on ITV2 at 9pm on Sunday.

Princess Andre left 'hating herself' amid heartbreaking bullying over her looks
Model Princess Andre shared a devastating confession about her own body image as she revealed she was subject to cruel bullying that made her 'hate' herself Princess Andre has heartbreakingly shared the extent of her bullying as she admitted to "hating" herself. The daughter of Peter Andre and Katie Price has stepped into the spotlight on her own thanks to her new TV series. She has had the taste of the limelight for years thanks to her famous parents, from red carpets to glam photoshoots. However, things haven't always been easy for Princess, 18. The teenager has revealed she was subject of nasty trolling over her looks which severely affected how she saw herself. It comes after Katie Price worries fans with appearance in family photo after explaining weight loss. In the first episode of her new ITV2 show, The Princess Diaries, Princess headed over to her manager Claire's house to have a meeting about her future goals. Princess revealed her dreams of creating her own makeup brand, but it left her sharing an unexpected confession. Claire laid bare the hard work needed from Princess in order to get her brand to become a reality, which prompted her to share the devastating reason behind her determination. "I love the idea of being able to make myself look different," she revealed. "I used to hate my lips, I used to hate my nose." Princess told the camera the extent of the bullying: "When I was younger, I used to get really picked on for my nose being too big and my eyes being too big and my lips being nonexistent. I used to be very, very self conscious and genuinely hate myself. "When I discovered makeup and I figured out you can enhance your eye features, make your nose smaller, make your lips bigger - now I feel a lot more confident. Still not fully, but a lot more confident about certain things." She went on to tell Claire: "I literally hated everything and then I discovered makeup." They discussed how important Princess' message is as many young women turn to surgery instead. Princess insisted: "You don't need that when you're 18. Of course, everyone is entitled to their own thing." She added to the camera: "I am not against surgery at all. If anyone I know gets surgery, it would never ever change my opinion on them." The model referenced her mum Katie Price, who has reportedly had 17 boob jobs, and added: "Obviously, if you know my mum, you know she's had a lot of surgery and she owns it. She loves it and I am so here for it." "But, she was actually the one telling me 'don't get it done, you are beautiful the way you are'," Princess said as she revealed her mum's powerful comment. "There are so many things makeup taught me and I have also learnt to love myself without it because I think that is important as well. You have to love yourself without," she shared. The Princess Diaries airs at 9pm, this Sunday on ITV2.
