Charlize Theron reveals what frustrates about Hollywood

Time of India9 hours ago
Hollywood actress
Charlize Theron
has called out a double standard when it comes to action movies.
The Oscar-winning actress, who has been fronting action movies since 2005's 'Aeon Flux', said studios often give female actors just one shot to have an action movie hit, reports 'Variety'.
She told 'The New York Times', "Yeah, it's harder. That's known. Action films with female leads don't get greenlit as much as the ones with male leads. I think the thing that always frustrates me is the fact that guys will get a free ride".
As per 'Variety', she said that when it comes to men, however, they can have a box office flop but still land multiple follow-up projects.
Charlize's Brutal Bezos Roast BLOWS UP: 'We Didn't Get Invited… Because...'
"When women do this and the movie maybe doesn't hit fully, they don't necessarily get a chance again", she continued.
"With this, we were very aware that eyes were on us. It's not a risk that studios want to take, but they'll take it many times on the same guy who might have a string of action movies that did not do so well".
Theron is currently headlining Netflix's action sequel 'The Old Guard 2'. It's her latest action role after the likes of 'Atomic Blonde' and 'Mad Max: Fury Road', among others.
She told The Times her commitment to her action roles has left her body worn out.
She said, "I run into people and they're like, 'Oh, what happened to your arm?' And I'm like, 'Oh, I just had surgery'. And they're like, 'The last time I saw you, you had surgery".
"I had an unfortunate injury on the first action attempt I ever did, for a bad movie called 'Aeon Flux.' On day nine, I did a back handspring, and I didn't get enough height, and I landed on my neck on a concrete bridge. I had the last surgery on my neck 18 years ago. I've had surgery on both elbows, my right shoulder, my thumb, carpal tunnel, fractures. A lot of fractures", she added.

Brad Pitt's F1 Beats Napoleon To Become Apple's Top-Earning Film So Far

Last Updated: Brad Pitt's role in F1 created buzz before its release, but it was the strong word of mouth after the release that really helped the movie gain popularity. Brad Pitt's new movie, F1, has quickly become Apple's biggest hit at the box office. Directed by Joseph Kosinski, the film tells the story of Sonny Hayes, a retired Formula One driver who returns to racing and guides a young racer while helping his friend's team to make a comeback. The movie's thrilling IMAX sequence and fast-paced action have made it a thrilling experience for fans and newcomers to the sport. Pitt's role and the director's reputation created buzz before its release, but it was the strong word of mouth after the release that really helped the movie gain popularity. According to Variety, just 10 days after hitting theatres, the movie has already broken records, as it has earned $293 million at the global box office. The collection has made it the highest-earning movie ever released by Apple. It has now passed the previous top performers like the Killers of the Flower Moon, which made $158 million and Napoleon, which earned $221 million. Both were big projects by well-known directors, strong casts. Still, F1 has managed to go ahead and set a new milestone for the tech giant. Even though F1 has outperformed Apple's earlier theatrical releases, it still has a long way to go before covering its total budget. Reports suggest that the production alone went above $250 million and another $100 million was spent on marketing. With such a large budget, the film still needs to earn much more to recover its production costs. So, while the start has been strong, the race isn't over yet for the Brad Pitt-starrer. As per reports, 'There was a growing internal sense that if a crowd-pleaser like F1 didn't work on the big screen, Apple would be better off abandoning the movie business in favour of television. After all, the company has fielded plenty of small screen successes on AppleTV+ including Severance and Ted Lasso." Directed by Joseph Kosinski, the F1 movie also stars Damson Idris, Javier Bardem, Kerry Condon, Tobias Menzies, Sarah Niles, Kim Bodnia and Samson Kayo. First Published:

K-Pop Demon Hunters To Enter Award Race With The Song Golden

Last Updated: Since its debut, Golden has broken several records, including peaking at No. 3 on the US Spotify chart. Netflix's new animated film KPop Demon Hunters, directed by Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans, has taken the world by storm. Debuting with 9.2 million views on the streaming platform in its first week, and then reaching 24.2 million views in its second week, the musical fantasy film was on Netflix's Top 10 chart in all 93 countries. It also topped the chart in 33 countries, including South Korea, Mexico, Brazil, France and the Philippines. Given its popularity among the masses, the streaming platform has decided to officially submit KPop Demon Hunters' song Golden for awards consideration, as reported by Variety. The film's hit track was also released as an official single by Republic Records on July 4. It has been released as a three-track bundle, which includes Golden, Golden – Instrumental, and Golden – A Cappella. Golden is performed by EJAE, Audrey Nuna and REI AMI. It was written by EJAE and Mark Sonnenblick, and produced by well-known names like 24, Ido, Teddy Park and Ian Eisendrath. Since its debut, the song has broken several records. Golden peaked at No. 3 on the US Spotify chart, tying as the highest-charting song by a female K-pop group. It reached No. 81 on the Billboard Hot 100 and also witnessed a 2000 per cent increase in streams on Apple Music. Since the release of KPop Demon Hunters on June 20, its soundtrack has taken a prominent place on the music charts. It debuted at No. 8 on the Billboard 200, becoming the highest soundtrack debut of 2025. Moreover, the fictional K-pop group Huntr/x has become the top female group on Spotify in terms of daily streams, and the album has also topped the most-streamed project on Spotify daily. Golden has continued with its winning streak, becoming the most-streamed hit from the soundtrack. Composer Ian Eisendrath told the above-mentioned outlet that Golden was the sixth song written for the film. The composer revealed that the team wanted each song to contribute to the film's story, rather than just serving as background music. Golden plays when Huntr/x tries to shut down the Golden Honmoon, a barrier between their world and that of the demons. It was then revealed that Rumi, a member of the girl group, was part demon, bearing marks on her arms all along. 'The bridge is totally a narrative character. It's the moment that the conflict, in many ways, enters the story. It just has so much joy and reach and yearning and longing," said Ian. KPop Demon Hunters follows the story of Rumi, Mira and Zoey, members of a K-pop girl group Huntr/x, who are secretly demon hunters. They face the Saja Boys, whose members are demons. The film features the voices of Arden Cho, Ahn Hyo Seop, May Hong, Ji Young Yoo and Lee Byung Hun, among others. First Published:

The group has reportedly demanded that their concerns be addressed in time by the makers.
