Ex-Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou wins special Greek award
The 59-year-old guided the North London club to their first major honour in 17 years, although he was relieved of his duties less than a fortnight later and now finds himself without work.
Postecoglou was recently invited to the draw for the 2025/26 Greek Super League, at which he was presented with an award of special recognition by president and Nottingham Forest owner, Evangelos Marinakis.
"Thank you very much, it is an honour to be here today," said Postecoglou [neoskosmos]. "I left Greece when I was five years old, but when we left, my parents, my father, passed on the love he had for football to me.

"I grew up with the names Mavros, Papaioannou, Delikaris. I had not seen them, but I knew them as if I had seen them, because my father spoke to me.
"I had this dream since I was little, as a player I did not succeed, but as a coach I tried to make my father proud for the sacrifices he made for me and my sister and every day I think about the sacrifices he made.
"My father is not with me today, but he sees me and is proud of what I have built, I have my wife by my side, and we continue. I want to make you proud, Greece and Australia. It is a great honour to be here."
Marinakis added: "What I want to say about Ange is that he has spoken about Greece many times, he is proud to be Greek, and in the great success he had with Tottenham by winning the Europa League, he spoke about Greece.
"[He is] a man who not only does not hide his origin but is also proud of it.
"What he achieved, he did with a team that has not won any titles, it has had a very difficult time in recent years. In this huge success that the whole world saw, he promoted Greece.
"We must thank him especially for this, and we wish him well, although we are sure that he will do well as he has the ability. Wherever he goes, the successes will come."

Liverpool to make ‘take-it-or-leave-it' offer for Marc Guehi as Crystal Palace defender has heart set on Reds transfer
There are three other clubs hoping to change his mind MARC'D MAN Liverpool to make 'take-it-or-leave-it' offer for Marc Guehi as Crystal Palace defender has heart set on Reds transfer Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) LIVERPOOL will make a £40million 'take-it-or-leave it' offer to Crystal Palace for defender Marc Guehi. And that should have a great chance of landing the centre-half, who turns 25 today and has always held a big interest in going to Anfield. Sign up for Scottish Sun newsletter Sign up 2 Liverpool are set to bid a first, and final, offer of £40million for Marc Guehi Credit: Alamy Guehi was the Eagles' star attraction as the club launched their new kit yesterday, but champions Liverpool want to see him in their famous red. The FA Cup-winning Crystal Palace skipper is now in the last year of his contract and would take the move despite Arsenal, Chelsea and Newcastle all being keen. Guehi, who played 45 minutes in a behind-closed-doors friendly against Millwall yesterday, has never made a fuss over previous bids. And he will allow the clubs to sort out the fee without agitating. READ MORE IN FOOTBALL BOX FRESH Prem TV fixtures announced for August including Liverpool vs Arsenal clash Insiders say Guehi is one of the most down-to-earth players and football is his priority over finance. Guehi is still on the five-year deal he signed when joining from Chelsea in 2021, ignoring new contracts and waiting for the right step up, with the Reds a favourite. Palace are not interested in swaps, despite the Kop's highly-rated Ben Doak, 19, and others being potentially available, as they need the cash to land replacements. Boss Oliver Glasner wants Palace chiefs to deliver TWO new defenders — and that will be a challenge. BEST FREE BETS AND BETTING SIGN UP OFFERS Sporting's Ousmane Diomande, 21, is Glasner's first choice but the Ivory Coast international is also in the same £40m range. That would mean the second newcomer has to be a loan — with a likely move to land Portugal star Tiago Djalo, 25, from Juventus. Marc Guehi forced to tell overexcited Crystal Palace team-mate to shut up in hilarious tunnel footage Palace are reeling from Uefa booting them out of the Europa League into the Conference because John Textor has a stake in both their club and French rivals Lyon. The demotion will also impact their budget — but the Eagles will appeal.

Arne Slot's masterstroke signing is Liverpool's best business of summer window
Florian Wirtz is undoubtedly Arne Slot's marquee summer signing at Liverpool - but Giovanni van Bronckhorst might yet prove to be his best. The exit of highly-rated assistant coach Johnny Heitinga - an unsung hero of last season's Premier League title triumph - to Ajax was undoubtedly a blow. But now Liverpool have swiftly recruited a vastly experienced, high-class replacement in van Bronckhorst, who has already won seven trophies during various managerial spells in Holland, Scotland and Turkey. The former Arsenal and Barcelona defender - capped 105 times by the Netherlands - actually lifted more silverware (five trophies) than Slot at Feyenoord and also guided the Dutch giants to Eredivisie glory for the first time in 18 years. It's no surprise to see him jump at the chance to work alongside his compatriot at Anfield, however, as the pair set their sights on another slice of history; an English-record 21st league crown. Van Bronckhorst previously said of his new partner in crime: "Arne Slot is an exceptional coach in my eyes, he is showing great things with Liverpool and is doing that in the toughest league in the world. "I have seen it as an Arsenal player: the Premier League is extremely tough. But Arne was successful in his first year and he's a really great coach. He's also been sacked once in his career at AZ Alkmaar, a sacking hurts." Van Bronckhorst, who guided Rangers to the Europa League final in 2022, has been out of work since November when he was dismissed by Besiktas. He has worked under several top bosses including Arsene Wenger, Frank Rijkaard and Guus Hiddink but had become disillusioned by the lack of patience in the modern game. That's precisely why a new challenge and the opportunity to be part of Slot's Dutch revolution at Anfield proved too good to resist. The 50-year-old said of his Besiktas sacking: "The year before I arrived they had finished 43 points behind the champions. You can't close that gap in four months but clubs don't have patience anymore, the pressure is huge.'' While this is his first coaching role in England, he does know what it takes to get the best from some of the world's elite. Van Bronckhorst is fluent in both German and Spanish meaning he can help with the integration of £116million acquisition Wirtz and goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili, arriving from Valencia. An extra line of communication with both Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez, providing they stay, will also be welcomed. Additionally, it should not be forgotten that Van Bronckhorst was an integral leader at Barcelona in a Champions League-winning dressing room that contained both Ronaldinho and teenager Lionel Messi. Van Bronckhorst, who won 22 trophies as a player, said of the Brazilian: "Ronaldinho regularly rocked up for training wearing Havaianas flip flops. "You could see the sand from the Barca beach between his toes and he'd tell us he couldn't train that day. We'd push him but knew in the next match, he'd excel again. "I used to play behind him on the left and I never knew what he was going to do! He'd tell me 'just run forward and come join me on the flank' - if anyone showed me how to enjoy the game, it was him!" He also witnessed the day Messi came of age, concluding: "We played a friendly against Porto, our team was made up of youth players. "Messi was 16 and only talked with his feet, Rijkaard gave him eight minutes and our assistant coach Henk ten Cate called me later that night and said 'this kid is the new star, he will replace Ronaldinho'.'' Sky has slashed the price of its bundle ahead of the 2025/26 season, saving members £192 and offering more than 1,400 live matches across the Premier League, EFL and more. Sky will show at least 215 live Premier League games next season, an increase of up to 100 more.
