Gumla schools participate in Subroto meet

Gumla: A district-level football meet of the Subroto cup kicked off for boys on Tuesday in which many school teams, having past legacy of winning Subroto Cup International Football Championships in the past, also took part.
The current meet will end on Thursday, post which girls' tournament will begin.
Inaugurating the tournament, Gumla DC Prerna Dixit emphasized the importance of sports along with academic pursuits. "Sports instills discipline and develops team spirit. Also, it keeps one mentally and physically fit," she said. "A total 12 teams of U-14 and U-17 boys from 12 blocks are taking part to get the top spot to represent the district at state level meet later this year.
The tournament is organised by the education department," said DSE Noor Alam Khan.

Gumla: A JJMP rebel, carrying Rs 5 lakh reward, was nabbed by the district police and the Jharkhand Jaguar from a forest near Ghaghra village under the Bishunpur police station limits of Gumla on Tuesday. SP Haris Bin Zaman said, "Acting on inputs about the presence of JJMP extremists, including its chief, Ravidra Yadav, a joint team of the district police and Jaguar Assault Group (AG) 39, led by Gumla SDPO Suresh.
The nabbed ultra was identified as Firoj Ansari of Rubed village under the Jobang police station of Lohardaga district.
Ansari has 11 criminal cases against him with Jobang and Senha police stations in Lohardaga, Latehar police station, and Kurumgarh and Chainpur police stations of Gumla."

A big headload falling from one of the passengers triggered the New Delhi railway station stampede that killed 18 people, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw told Rajya Sabha on Friday (August 1, 2025). On the day of the incident, sufficient crowd management protocols were in place to handle the overall volume of passengers at the station," he said. "There was a gradual increase of passengers density on the FOB after 8.15 pm. Many of the passengers were carrying big headloads affecting smooth movement on the FOB. 'There was a big headload falling from one of the passengers and the pressure was passed on to the stairs of PF 14/15 stairs, resulting in the tripping of passengers on the stairs. This led to an incident at 8.48 pm on FOB-3, which was limited to the stairs of FOB. Consequently, passengers fell on each other." The Minister informed the House that in the incident, 18 people lost their lives and 15 others were injured. According to Mr. Vaishnaw, an ex-gratia amount of Rs 10 lakh to the next of kin of each deceased, an amount of Rs 2.5 lakh each to the grievously injured and Rs 1 lakh each to other injured has been paid. "Accordingly, a total amount of Rs 2.01 crore has been paid to 33 victims and their family members," Mr. Vaishnaw said. The Railway Minister said the government has taken several actions to handle the heavy rush of passengers at stations, including the creation of permanent holding areas and access control measures — allowing passengers with confirmed tickets — at 73 identified stations, widening foot overbridges, installing CCTV cameras, developing war rooms at big stations, among others.

Moreover, the ED is also looking at allegations of 'illegal' loan diversion of around Rs 3,000 crore, given by Yes Bank to the group companies of Ambani between 2017-2019. Delhi Court Issues Notice To Robert Vadra In Money Laundering Case Filed By ED
Delhi's Rouse Avenue Court on Saturday issued a notice to Robert Vadra, husband of Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, in connection with a money laundering complaint filed by the Enforcement Directorate (ED). The development comes after the Enforcement Directorate (ED) filed a new chargesheet on August 28. As part of the investigation, the ED has attached 43 immovable properties valued at Rs 37.64 crore, allegedly connected to Robert Vadra and his associated entities. Prosecution complaints have been filed against him and 10 others. The charge sheet, which pertains to an alleged illegal land deal in Shikohpur village, Gurugram, accuses Vadra and his company M/s Sky Light Hospitality Pvt. Ltd. of purchasing 3.53 acres of land through fraudulent means. The ED has already attached 43 properties allegedly linked to Vadra and his firm, worth a total of Rs 37.64 crore, as part of the ongoing investigation. The case dates back to a 2008 FIR filed by Gurugram Police, which alleged that Vadra's company purchased land from M/s Onkareshwar Properties Pvt. Ltd. for Rs 7.5 crore using a false declaration. Just a few years later, in September 2012, Sky Light Hospitality sold the same land to real estate giant DLF Ltd. for Rs 58 crore, raising serious questions about the nature and legality of the transaction. The controversy deepened when Ashok Khemka, then Director General of Land Consolidation and Land Records and Inspector-General of Registration in Haryana, cancelled the land mutation, declaring the transaction violative of state regulations. His actions at the time sparked a political firestorm and led to a prolonged legal and administrative scrutiny of land dealings involving political figures. Earlier on July 18, 2025, the Rouse Avenue Court had taken note of the ED's charge sheet and listed the matter for hearing. Presiding Special Judge Sushant Changotra had directed the court record keeper to verify all accompanying documents and provide a detailed report. The Enforcement Directorate is likely to press for further legal action in the hearing, potentially including the summoning of Vadra for questioning based on the charge sheet's findings. Opposition parties have accused the government of using investigative agencies for political purposes, while the ED maintains it is pursuing the case based on documentary evidence and financial trails.
