Listen: Barbra Streisand recruits Mariah Carey, Ariana Grande for 'One Heart'
June 27 (UPI) -- Barbra Streisand has released a new song with fellow music superstars Mariah Carey and Ariana Grande.
Streisand, 83, recorded the track "One Heart, One Voice" with Carey, 56, and Grande, 32, for her duets album The Secret of Life: Partners, Volume 2, which debuted Friday.
In "One Heart, One Voice," the trio of music artists celebrate the power of a woman's heart.
"With love that guides the way / A hundred thousand heartbeats a day / A reason to rejoice / Together, with one heart, one voice," they sing.
Streisand had nothing but praise for Carey and Grande in an interview with Variety, calling the pair "the hottest, biggest, most wonderful voices."
Partners, Volume 2 also features collaborations with Hozier, Paul McCartney, Sam Smith, Bob Dylan, Laufey, Tim McGraw, Sting, Josh Groban and Seal.
Streisand released "The First Time I Ever Saw Your Face" with Hozier in April and "My Valentine" with McCartney in May.
"Recording this album with new and familiar friends was a joyful experience! I Chose the title, The Secret of Life, because I thought James Taylor's philosophical lyric was particularly inspiring," she wrote on Instagram, referencing Taylor's 1976 song of the same name.
In addition to her new music, Streisand released her autobiography My Name is Barbra in late 2023.

July 5 (UPI) -- Julian McMahon's former co-stars Joely Richardson and Alyssa Milano were among the celebrities mourning his recent death at the age of 56. "Woke up to the shocking news of Julian McMahon's passing at 56," Richardson said in an Instagram post Saturday. "I can't believe it. Emily Makes a Long-Awaited Return in 'The Handmaid's Tale' Series Finale
Spoilers below. The Handmaid's Tale has put us through the wringer throughout its final season (and the whole series, really), but luckily, not all of the surprises have been brutal. In this week's season 6 finale—the show's final episode—June (Elisabeth Moss) and viewers at home were treated to Emily's (Alexis Bledel) shocking but welcome return. The character, who was introduced in the show's first season, was written off after season 4 when Bledel stepped away from the series. In season 5, Emily's wife, Sylvia (Clea DuVall), tells June that Emily returned to Gilead on a personal mission to seek revenge and find Aunt Lydia. Since then, she's been missing in action, until this week's finale scene, where Emily and June reunite and take a walk together in a freed Boston. 'It was an immediate yes,' Bledel told The Hollywood Reporter of returning to Handmaid's for the finale. 'It felt right to bring closure to Emily's journey and offer the audience a sense of completion. Bruce put together such a kind and talented group, and so many of the original crew were still there in season six. The production runs like a well-oiled machine — everyone brings their best. I'm excited to see what they create in [sequel series] The Testaments.' Bledel added, 'I hope viewers take away to keep hope alive when things seem impossible. Even if it seems like seeds you plant couldn't possibly grow, plant seeds of hope anyway. You never know; they might find a way.' The actress announced her departure from The Handmaid's Tale in May 2022, ahead of the season 5 premiere. 'After much thought, I felt I had to step away from 'The Handmaid's Tale' at this time,' she told Variety in a statement. 'I am forever grateful to Bruce Miller for writing such truthful and resonant scenes for Emily, and to Hulu, MGM, the cast and crew for their support.' At the time, Moss told Entertainment Tonight that Bledel's exit 'wasn't the easiest thing in the world to handle, I'll be honest with you, because she's such a great, fantastic part of the show. But I do think that it was handled in a really good way.' Years later, the star, director, and executive producer opened up about bringing Bledel—and Emily—back to Handmaid's for its emotional conclusion. 'Bruce talked to me about bringing her back a while ago, before there was even an outline or script,' Moss told THR. 'I think I said to him at the time, 'You realize now that you've told me that, we have to do it.' It's not the easiest thing in the world to call an actor and be like, 'Can you come back for this one episode?' They're busy. But I was like, 'She has to do it.' I get very passionate about these things! And she wanted to do it from the beginning. She didn't need convincing at all. My first official scene on day one [on set] was with Alexis. Jurnee Smollett tried to find the 'eyes' of her complex 'Smoke' investigator

Photo by John Angelillo/UPI | License Photo NEW YORK, July 5 (UPI) -- Underground, True Blood and Lovecraft Country actress Jurnee Smollett says that sage advice from a screen icon helped her find the look and voice of her character in the new drama, Smoke. Based on the true-crime podcast Firebug, and created by best-selling novelist Dennis Lehane, new episodes of the limited series air on Apple TV+ Fridays. The show follows Taron Egerton's Dave Gudsen, a Pacific Northwest arson investigator, aspiring writer and serial fire-starter. Smollett plays Michell, the brilliant, but troubled police detective assigned to help Dave bring blaze-setters to justice. "One of my mentors, Alfre Woodard, said to me a long time ago that, when building a character, you just have to find their eyes, [meaning], how do they see the world?" Smollett, 38, told UPI in a recent Zoom interview. "So, in order to do that, I really just researched her world. I spoke to a bunch of experts in the field, asked a lot of questions, did my same process of writing a backstory and a biography of her." She also worked closely with a personal trainer to prepare for the physical aspects of her role. "I tend to, in my personal life, be a little more lean, but Michell is a former Marine. I researched those Marine workouts and they are intense," Smollett said. "So, I put on 15 pounds of muscle with my trainer and then you take all this research, you do all this work, all this prep work leading up to set and then, once you get on set, you've got to let it all go and just behave." Smollett said she also picked the brain of a real-life firefighter friend in an effort to understand the world in which Michell suddenly finds herself immersed. "I've had an interesting perspective and knowledge of how tough that job is just from watching him," the actress explained. "It really is about accessing a different part of your brain, because, for me, when I see danger, I am running," she laughed. "So, you definitely have to approach it with a level of reverence and humility when taking on a character like this." Smollett said Lehane, Egerton and Rafe Spall, who plays Michell's married former lover and colleague, were all great collaborators. "I just was so blessed to be in a tribe of folks who were generous," she added. "Taron? That's like my brother, even though we're in this cat-and-mouse game. On camera, off camera, I felt safe and felt like he had my back and I had his and, really, we were about servicing the story and it wasn't about ego or competition," she said. "It was really about, 'How do we make this the best story?' And Dennis? Oh, my gosh, I've always been such a fan of his. His writing is brilliant and he empowers you to really take it and run with it and make the character your own. So, I loved working with him."
