Michigan State TE Jack Velling ranked near top of Big Ten by popular podcast
Both of the hosts on The Big Ten Huddle podcast included Velling as one of their top three tight ends in the conference this upcoming season. Velling came in at No. 2 in the Big Ten by Jon 'JR' Rhoades, and No. 3 by Zack Gugenheim.
In 2024, Velling tallied 36 catches for 411 yards and one touchdown, posting a career most catches in a season. In total, over his three year college career, Velling has posted 81 catches for 1,130 yards and 12 touchdowns.
Velling has received quite a bit of praise this offseason, with Pro Football Focus considering him one of the best returning tight ends in the country. Michigan State's tight ends tandem of Velling and Michael Masunas were ranked as the top tight ends group in the Big Ten by Tony Liebert of Bring Me The News earlier this offseason as well.

Michigan WR Makes Feelings Clear About Bryce Underwood Before 2025 Season
Michigan WR Makes Feelings Clear About Bryce Underwood Before 2025 Season originally appeared on Athlon Sports. With the arrival of true freshman quarterback Bryce Underwood, the top-ranked prospect in the class of 2025, the Michigan Wolverines are looking to get back in the national championship conversation. After winning it all in 2023, the program's first national title in more than 25 years, "Big Blue" took a step back last season, finishing with an 8-5 record and seventh in the Big Ten standings. Advertisement Michigan struggled with the departures of quarterback J.J. McCarthy and running back Blake Corum. Last year, the Wolverines finished 131st in passing yards (129.1 yards per game) and 73rd in rushing yards (157.2). Underwood was a last-minute addition to Michigan's recruiting class as he decommitted from LSU before committing to the Big Ten powerhouse. Landing Underwood delivered a successful recruiting cycle for the Wolverines. Not only did they land the five-star quarterback prospect, but Michigan secured another five-star addition in offensive tackle Andrew Babalola. On3 slotted Michigan sixth in their 2025 recruiting rankings. Advertisement The Wolverines appear to be reinvigorated as evidenced by the outlook shared by wide receiver Channing Goodwin on Monday. 'Bryce has come in, done a great job early enrolling from high school,' Goodwin said via The Wolverine's Clayton Sayfie. 'He's blessed with all the physical traits, and he just keeps on progressing each and every day in practice going against our great defense. He's been great so far.' Underwood has yet to be named the starter officially by Michigan's coaching staff; however, he is seen as the favorite to earn that role. Advertisement 'Coming into this year, we want to just win,' Goodwin said. 'That's the main thing on our mind — go out there, win every game and just hold ourselves to that Michigan standard, for real. That's the biggest thing as a team. We just want to go out there and compete, win and achieve all of our goals.' Goodwin joined the program in 2024 and took a redshirt year. A former three-star recruit, he committed to Michigan over offers from NC State, Virginia Tech, South Carolina, North Carolina and many more schools. Grizzlies' Jaren Jackson Jr. sustains turf toe injury in right foot
Memphis Grizzlies forward Jaren Jackson Jr. suffered a right toe injury that will require a procedure to repair, the team announced Tuesday. Jackson, 25, sustained the turf toe injury in a live basketball run offsite. The Grizzlies didn't immediately provide a timeline for his return but stated that he's expected to make a full recovery. Advertisement The news comes after Jackson agreed to a five-year, $240 million maximum renegotiation-and-extension Monday. The deal, which cannot be signed until July 6, is set to go down as the most expensive contract in franchise history, a league source told The Athletic. The Michigan State star is coming off one of his best seasons in the league as Memphis aims to turn the corner amid a transition period. Jackson made the All-Defense second team this past season and was one of five players last season to make at least 100 3s and record at least 100 blocks. With center Zach Edey requiring an offseason procedure on his sprained left ankle, Jackson is the second player to require an offseason procedure for Memphis. The seventh year pro averaged 22.2 points and 5.6 rebounds on 48.8 percent shooting. Over four postseason games, Jackson averaged 16 points, five rebounds and 1.5 assists.

5 Potential Trap Games on Michigan Football's 2025 Schedule
5 Potential Trap Games on Michigan Football's 2025 Schedule originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Expectations are high for the Michigan Wolverines heading into their 2025 season coming off of an 8-5 campaign. Advertisement Late last season, the Wolverines defeated Ohio State and Alabama in back-to-back weeks, scoring wins over the eventual national champions and one of the SEC's top teams in the ReliaQuest Bowl. The Wolverines' 2025 schedule includes a mix of big name opponents and lesser known foes with coach Sherrone Moore's team expected to compete for a spot in the upper echelon of the Big Ten Conference. The Wolverines will kick it all off with a game against the New Mexico Lobos on August 30 in Ann Arbor followed by a road trip to Oklahoma that could set the tone for the rest of a season littered with potential trap games. At Nebraska (Sep. 20)- Michigan holds a 6-4 all-time record against the Cornhuskers, with whom they split the 1997 National Championship. The Wolverines have won four straight in the series meaning coach Matt Rhule's Cornhuskers will almost certainly have the September 20 game in Lincoln circled on the calendar. 4. Vs. Wisconsin (Oct. 4)- The Badgers have become an afterthought in the Big Ten under Luke Fickell but they still play physical, focused football which could become a problem for a young Michigan offense. Michigan will have to match the Badgers' intensity and take care of the football to win this game, especially with freshman QB Bryce Underwood expected to start against a physical and savvy opponent. Advertisement 4. At USC (Oct. 11)- The Trojans had Michigan against the ropes last season before Kalel Mullings ran wild and the Wolverines pulled out a thrilling 27-24 home victory. Traveling to Los Angeles is never easy for a Big Ten team and the Trojans will have revenge on their minds. 3. At Michigan State (Oct. 25)- Strange things happen around Halloween which is part of the reason why it's hard to count the Spartans out in this annual rivalry game. Michigan State quarterback Aidan Chiles has the talent to be one of the better quarterbacks in the Big Ten. Don't be surprised if Chiles takes the presence of Underwood as a challenge and steps up his game this season, both against the Wolverines and other Big Ten teams. Advertisement 2. At Northwestern (Nov. 15)- The Wildcats were embarrassed at the Big House last season and now have a chance to exact revenge in what could be a program-shifting game at Wrigley Field in Chicago. The Northwestern game comes just before a road trip to Maryland and a home matchup with Ohio State giving it all the elements of a potential trap game. 1. At Maryland (Nov. 22)- Michigan has not lost to the Terrapins since 2014 but Mike Locksley's group has come close to beating the Wolverines several times. The Terps gave Michigan's 2023-24 National Championship team one of its toughest tests of the season suggesting that the 2025 game could go either way if the Wolverines aren't healthy and prepared to play one of their better games of the season in College Park.
