Chicago Sky Coach Had Four Words for Angel Reese on Sunday
Chicago Sky Coach Had Four Words for Angel Reese on Sunday originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Angel Reese and the Chicago Sky are back in action on Sunday in a tough road game against the league-best Minnesota Lynx. Chicago is looking to make it back-to-back wins after their 92-85 win over the Los Angeles Sparks in their last game, but it's going to be an undeniably challenging test for them against Napheesa Collier and Co. Advertisement Reese, however, received some big news before the game. This came in the form of the 23-year-old being named an All-Star reserve for a second consecutive year. This development came behind Reese being the driving force for the Sky this season, with averages of 12.4 points, 12.6 rebounds, 3.8 assists and 1.8 steals heading into Sunday's contest against Minnesota. Chicago Sky coach Tyler Marsh caught wind of the news and wasted no time congratulating her star forward. The first-year shot-caller had four words for Reese via Instagram. "Yes ma'am! Congrats 5!" he posted, sharing the Sky's announcement on Reese's All-Star nod. Advertisement Marsh deserves at least some credit for Reese's All-Star selection. The Sky are far from the best team in the WNBA right now — they enter Sunday's game against the Lynx with a 5-11 record and 12th in the league — but the fact that Reese has still been able to shine for Chicago has to count for something. It is worth noting that, depending on how All-Star captain Caitlin Clark drafts her squad, Reese and Clark could be on the same team yet again for a second consecutive year. Paul Finebaum Reveals He's 'Losing Patience' with Some SEC Coaches
Paul Finebaum Reveals He's 'Losing Patience' with Some SEC Coaches originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The SEC spring meetings have come and gone, and there is still no decision on whether the conference will adopt a nine-game conference schedule, similar to the Big Ten and Big 12. Currently, both the SEC and ACC have an eight-game conference slate. Advertisement However, after adding the Oklahoma Sooners and the Texas Longhorns, it seemed likely that the SEC would soon shift to a nine-game schedule. With so many teams in the league now, this change would ensure that certain rivalries continue. Additionally, because the OU-Texas game is held at a neutral site, it would guarantee the Sooners and Longhorns both receive four home and away conference games. Under the current eight-game format, depending on which team is the home team at the Cotton Bowl, that team would only get three true home games compared to four road games in conference play. The same is said for the neutral site game between the Georgia Bulldogs and the Florida Gators. Last season, the Bulldogs were the home team, so they only got three true home games in conference. On "The Paul Finebaum Show," the SEC Network analyst expressed his dissatisfaction with SEC coaches who have voiced their opposition to the move to a nine-game schedule. Advertisement Texas Longhorns defensive back Derek Williams Jr. (2) recovers a fumble against the Oklahoma Sooners at the Cotton Dieb-Imagn Images "I'm losing patience with some of the coaches in this league," Finebaum said. "I think the SEC is long overdue to go to nine. They're reluctant to for legitimate reasons. The commissioner said to us four weeks ago, he's in favor of nine. I think ultimately they will get there. But I am not convinced they will get there in time for the first year of this 2026 playoff." Finebaum previously stated that although he believes the conference will eventually adopt a nine-game schedule, it is no longer as certain as it once seemed. He expressed concern that significant rivalries, such as the Alabama Crimson Tide against the Tennessee Volunteers, might diminish if scheduling does not change. Finebaum suggested that some schools are resisting this change because they want to maximize their chances of making the College Football Playoff. There is worry that adding another conference game could negatively impact those chances. Advertisement However, he argues that if a school is strong enough, the potential expansion of the CFP to 16 teams — something that could happen soon, would make it difficult for competitive teams to miss out on postseason play. While it remains unclear when SEC schools will vote on the nine-game proposal, it is expected to occur later this year, with potential implementation as early as 2026. However, no official date has been announced. Is Russell Westbrook on in Denver? Patrick Beverley weighs in
Russell Westbrook is back on the free-agent market after declining his player option with the Denver Nuggets. Though a return to Denver seemed possible at first, it now looks like the door has closed. The former MVP played in 75 games for the Nuggets last season, starting 36 of them. He averaged 13.3 points, 4.9 rebounds and 6.1 assists while serving as a high-energy contributor off the bench. But Denver's recent moves suggest the team is headed in a different direction. Advertisement MORE: Bronny James dazzles with big dunk in blowout win over Heat The Nuggets have added Tim Hardaway Jr. and brought back Bruce Brown, both of whom are expected to strengthen the team's bench unit. According to multiple reports, including ESPN's Shams Charania, those additions leave little room for a Westbrook reunion. Beverley Says Nuggets Prioritized Shooting Over Westbrook During a recent episode of the 'Pat Bev Podcast' from Barstool Sports, Patrick Beverley shared his thoughts on Denver's offseason decisions. Co-host Adam 'Rone' Ferrone suggested the Nuggets have moved on from Westbrook by bringing in more reliable perimeter threats. 'That move is gonna have them getting off of Russ,' Ferrone said. 'The Kings are making a big push for Russ, but that leaves a divot in Denver's backup point guard rotation.' Beverley agreed with the take, adding: 'When you add some shooting around [Nikola Jokic] like they have with Tim Hardaway Jr. and Bruce Brown... I think Tim Hardaway Jr. is gonna light that place up.' The comment came from someone with a long and complex history with Westbrook. Beverley and Westbrook famously clashed during the 2013 playoffs, but they later became teammates on the Lakers and publicly ended their feud. Despite that rocky past, Beverley has often praised Westbrook's leadership and toughness. Advertisement Still, Beverley sees the logic in Denver's choice to focus on shooting. The Nuggets rely heavily on Jokic's playmaking, and spacing has always been key to unlocking his full offensive potential. With the Nuggets shifting focus, Westbrook's next destination remains unclear. The Sacramento Kings are rumored to have interest, but there's been no official word on where the veteran point guard will land. For now, Westbrook waits, while the Nuggets move forward with a backcourt built around shooting and depth. More NBA News:
