Calvert-Lewin to leave Everton on a free transfer

Former England international Dominic Calvert-Lewin announced on Sunday he will leave Everton on a free transfer after failing to agree a new contract with the Toffees.
Calvert-Lewin, 28, said he was seeking a "new challenge" after a nine-year spell on Merseyside.
The former Sheffield United striker was once the deputy to Harry Kane as England's number nine, scoring four times in 11 appearances.
But his last inclusion in an England squad was as part of the team that reached the final of Euro 2020.
He leaves as Everton's third-highest goalscorer in the Premier League with 71 goals in 273 appearances in all competitions.
However, his career has been blighted by a number of lengthy spells on the sidelines due to injury.
"After nine remarkable years at this club, I've made the incredibly difficult decision -- together with my family -- to begin a new chapter in my career," Calvert-Lewin said in a message posted on Instagram.
"The choice to move on was not simply about me -- it was a decision my family and I spent a long time considering together.
"We believe it is the right moment to seek a new challenge and continue growing, but that doesn't lessen the bond I'll always have with Everton."

Football meets civic action in Youth Day celebration in Salt Rock

A soccer tournament held to drive voter registration in underprivileged areas scored a spectacular goal on Youth Day. KwaDukuza Democratic Alliance Ward 22 councillor Privi Makhan, supported by Ward 6 and 30 councillors Ayabonga Zwane and Jack Abrahams, along with event co-ordinator Smanga Simelane, hosted the Youth Day soccer tournament at Marchant Open Space in Salt Rock for the low-income settlements inside Sheffield, Umhlali and Salt Rock. Abrahams hopes this will be the first of many such tournaments. 'Monday was a big success and could not have happened without our sponsors,' he said. 'We are looking at hosting more sports events and hopefully making this an annual event to support local teams.' Makhan said the aim was to energise and mobilise communities. 'It is important that we register people to vote, even if it is not for the DA. It is still valuable to do something that energises the local community,' she said. 'The DA recommitted to creating safe, inclusive and supportive environments where young people can thrive, both on and off the field. We remain committed to uplifting our youth and ensuring that every young person has the opportunity to dream big and achieve more.' Four teams contested the day-long tournament, with finalists receiving trophies, medals and new kits courtesy of Siza Water. Local businesses provided food, water and refreshments for the players, who came from informal clubs including Sheffield United, Mega Force FC, Real Stars and Umhlali FC. In an exciting final, goals in each half saw Sheffield United defeat Mega Force 2-0 in front of a lively crowd. Simelane expressed gratitude for the DA's support in bringing the event to life. 'It was a good day and a good vibe. Everyone enjoyed themselves,' he said. 'I am trying to improve soccer in the area. This is the first time anyone has done this for our local teams. 'It is the first time we have played for trophies and medals, like Real Madrid and Liverpool. And getting new kits, that's incredible.' Everton seal permanent deal for Alcaraz

Everton have triggered the option to sign Charly Alcaraz from Flamengo on a permanent basis after his loan spell at the Premier League club. Alcaraz will pen a two-year contract with Everton, who have agreed a reported £12.6 million ($16.9 million) fee for the midfielder. The 22-year-old Argentine scored two goals and provided three assists in 16 appearances in all competitions after joining David Moyes' side on a temporary basis in January. Alcaraz, who started seven times in the Premier League for Everton, scored the winner in a 1-0 victory at Newcastle on the last day of the top-flight season. He had previously played in the Premier League for Southampton after signing from Argentina's Racing Club in 2023. Alcaraz had a spell on loan at Serie A side Juventus before joining Flamengo in August.
