HYDERABAD: A minor girl's determination to bring her perpetrator to justice resulted in a 41-year-old man being sentenced to three years in jail under the Pocso Act in Medak district.
The incident happened in June 2019 when the girl was six years old. The perpetrator, Koneti Raju, had called her to his room promising to give her a chocolate. But when he undressed and came towards her, the girl thought he was trying to scare her and began to scream.
Hearing her cries, her family members and neighbours rushed in and caught the naked man before he could assault her. He was later handed over to police. Over time, the girl came to understand the crime committed by the 'uncle'.

During the trial which began six years later in 2025 due to the girl's age, it was ensured that the atmosphere in the court was conducive for her to talk about the crime, said Sweta Chowdhary, legal advisor at the Bharosa Centre, Medak. The testimony of the girl, now 12, was taken on Jan 3. As per rules for Pocso cases, the culprit was not present in the court and no one else was allowed into the courtroom. Only the judge, girl, public prosecutor and defence lawyer were present.

He faces two primary charges: money laundering under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), 2002, and criminal conspiracy under the Indian Penal Code (IPC). His network allegedly obtained fraudulent Letters of Undertaking (LoUs) from PNB to divert nearly Rs 6,498 crore, while Choksi used a similar modus operandi for the rest of the scam. Authorities say Nehal Modi assisted Nirav after the scam was exposed, including attempts to destroy evidence and intimidate directors of Dubai-based shell companies used to mask illegal trade. Live Events The ED alleges that Nehal, along with Mihir R. Bhansali (a close aide of Nirav Modi), transported around 50 kg of gold and large sums of cash from Dubai. He also instructed dummy directors to conceal his name during questioning by Indian authorities. Listed as Accused No. 27 in the CBI's supplementary chargesheet, Nehal is alleged to have orchestrated the destruction of electronic data and servers after relocating employees from Dubai to Cairo. These individuals reportedly signed false declarations of ownership for companies in Dubai and Hong Kong. These shell firms purportedly engaged in fake trade with Nirav Modi's entities—Diamonds R Us, Solar Exports, and Stellar Diamonds. These companies secured illegitimate buyer's credit from foreign banks using fake LoUs issued by PNB's Brady House branch in Mumbai. What's Next A status conference is scheduled for July 17, 2025, in the U.S. While Nehal Modi may seek bail, American prosecutors have expressed their intent to oppose his release.

Gaza aid site targeted: Two American workers wounded in suspected grenade attack; GHF blames Hamas

Representative Image (Photo: NYT) Two American aid workers were injured on Saturday in what has been described as a targeted grenade attack on a humanitarian aid centre in southern Gaza, according to the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF). The foundation, which is backed by the United States and Israel, said the incident occurred during a food distribution drive at one of its centres in Khan Yunis. The attack reportedly took place at the SDS-3 site at the conclusion of an otherwise successful distribution in which thousands of Gazans had safely received food. The two workers, both American, sustained injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening. GHF said both employees were in stable condition. The Times of Israel also reported that grenades were thrown at the workers. 'This morning, two American aid workers were injured in a targeted terrorist attack during food distribution activities at SDS-3 in Khan Yunis,' the organisation was quoted as saying to news agency AFP. 'Reports indicated it was carried out by two assailants who threw two grenades at the Americans.' by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like L&T Evara Heights – Thane's Most Awaited Launch L&T Evara Heights Enquire Now Undo The group added that early signs pointed to "hostile action by Hamas," though investigations are still ongoing. 'Early indication is that this was hostile action by Hamas. GHF continues to investigate and will update with more information as it becomes available,' the statement added. GHF said its operations would continue despite the attack. The organisation, which began work in Gaza on 26 May after Israel halted supplies through the UN agency for Palestinian refugees, has been distributing food and essential supplies to civilians amid the ongoing conflict. Operations have frequently been marred by chaotic scenes and near-daily reports of Israeli forces firing on people waiting to collect rations. The United Nations estimates that more than 500 people have been killed while queuing for aid in recent months. The Israeli military has blamed Hamas for such incidents. GHF noted it had issued multiple warnings about credible threats from Hamas. 'Today's attack tragically affirms those warnings,' the foundation said.

Man cross-dresses to take exam on behalf of a woman, but one detail gives him away

In a case that sounds straight out of a campus comedy thriller , a bizarre scene unfolded during an advanced accounting exam in China—one involving wigs, face masks, academic desperation, and a swift escape. What began as a bold attempt to cheat the system ended in embarrassment, exposure, and serious consequences. The story, reported by South China Morning Post, has since lit up Chinese social media, as netizens struggled to decide whether to laugh or cringe. When Disguise Becomes a Giveaway The incident came to light on June 24 when an online user claimed that a man was caught impersonating a female candidate during a senior accounting exam at Zhongnan University of Economics and Law in Wuhan, Hubei province. According to the viral post, the man attempted the exam dressed in full disguise—wearing a wig, headband, face mask, and women's clothing to blend in. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Play War Thunder now for free War Thunder Play Now Undo But his plan began to unravel when one teacher noticed something amiss. The wig, as it turned out, was too obvious. 'He was asked to remove the wig,' one post read, 'and the moment he was exposed, he ran off.' The impersonator fled after being exposed, and the woman who hired him now faces expulsion. (Image: Weibo) Behind the Mask While the incident quickly became a source of online amusement, it reflects a deeper concern embedded within China's high-stakes academic environment. In a system where exam scores can make or break careers, some students resort to extreme and unethical measures. According to a statement issued by Zhongnan University of Economics and Law on June 25, the man had been hired by a female student—identified by the surname Li—via an online platform to sit for the Advanced Accounting exam on her behalf. Whether money changed hands remains unclear, as the university did not disclose payment details. You Might Also Like: This bride just got the wildest dowry of this year, perhaps: 100 civet cats and... As per university disciplinary regulations, Li is now facing expulsion. Meanwhile, the male impersonator is still under investigation by the institution and local authorities. Part Laughter, Part Outrage The spectacle of a man in a headband and wig attempting to pass for a woman to sit an exam was too much for netizens to ignore. 'The wig was too obvious! I can't believe someone actually tried this,' wrote one user. Another remarked, 'What kind of person agrees to be a cross-dressing exam impostor? This is beyond ridiculous.' Yet, beneath the jokes, there was a clear undercurrent of concern. 'This is what happens when people get desperate,' commented a third. 'The pressure to succeed in Chinese academia is immense, and the consequences are severe. Being expelled for cheating is a huge blow to her future.' A Shocking Exam Day Reminder While academic misconduct isn't new, the method and theatrics of this case have made it especially memorable. The university's swift response and the public's reaction show that China is taking educational integrity seriously—but also grappling with the human toll of relentless academic expectations. In a system that demands perfection, this bizarre story reminds us how far some are willing to go to avoid failure—and how quickly a wig can turn an act of quiet fraud into a public spectacle.
