Top cops' meet charts joint border coordination in anti-Maoist ops
Senior police officers from Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra gathered to discuss collaborative strategies to counter Naxal activities in the border regions. Top officers from eight districts — Chhattisgarh's Rajnandgaon, Kabirdham, Mohla-Manpur-Ambagarh Chowki and Khairagarh-Chhuikhadan-Gandai, MP's Balaghat and Mandla and Maharashtra's Gadchiroli and Gondia —attended the meeting. So did officers from ITBP and MP's Hawk Force.
They focused on efforts to bolster coordination on state borders, particularly within the MP–Maharashtra–Chhattisgarh (MMC) zone. They said that authorities are focusing on developing joint strategies to neutralise Maoist presence, while intensifying operations aimed at encouraging surrenders and facilitating arrests. Key measures include establishing clear protocols for joint intelligence sharing, coordinated search operations, and synchronized patrolling efforts.

Border surveillance is being strengthened through deployment of mobile checkposts and barrier-checks designed to intercept illegal materials such as arms, drugs, and other contraband potentially linked to Maoist activities. Continuous monitoring of infiltration routes and suspicious movements across districts remains a top priority in order to disrupt the Maoist network.

V.S. Achuthanandan's death marks the end of an era, says M.V. Govindan
Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] State secretary M. V. Govindan stated that an era had come to an end with the passing of veteran party leader, freedom fighter, and former Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan. In a condolence message, Mr. Govindan said Mr. Achuthanandan, who was known more by the initials 'VS,' was a symbol of the ceaseless fight against injustice and exploitation. 'VS will remain shining as a sun in the minds of the working class,' he said. Mr. Govindan described Mr. Achuthanandan as a humanist who never compromised on proletarian values. 'He was at the frontline of the downtrodden's existential struggles. For Mr. Achuthanandan, resistance to inequality, corruption, tyranny and exploitation was a way of life,' he said. Mr. Govindan remembered Mr. Achuthanandan's trials and tribulations as a freedom fighter, communist party member, trade unionist, and organiser of indentured agricultural labourers against the tyranny of feudal landlords, which culminated in the historic Punnapra-Vayalar agrarian uprising in Alappuzha district in 1946. 'Organisational skills' He said Mr. Achuthanandan displayed unmatched organisational skills as Leader of the Opposition and later Chief Minister. Mr. Achuthanandan took an uncompromising stance against corruption and exploitation of women and children. Environmental causes were close to his heart. Mr. Achuthanandan was a seven-time legislator and also the chairperson of the Kerala Administrative Reforms Commission. He joined the Communist Party of India in 1940 and was one of the founding members of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) in 1964. 'The CPI(M) and Kerala have suffered an irredeemable loss in the beloved comrade's passing,' Mr. Govindan stated. Left Democratic Front (LDF) convener T.P. Ramakrishnan said Mr. Achuthanandan had a remarkable history of leading countless struggles and intervening in people's issues. Mr. Ramakrishnan said that he played a key role in the formation of the CPI(M) and the LDF as well as in leading the party and the front through tumultuous periods. 'Even in later years, when he remained unwell, he continued to make his stand clear on important issues of the day. VS's passing away is an irreparable loss to the communist movement,' said Mr. Ramakrishnan. 'A heart so big' Veteran CPI(M) leader Brinda Karat termed Mr. Achuthanandan a living legend, a history-maker, and a warrior. 'The beloved comrade was a warrior for the poor. He had a heart so big that he would intensely feel the pain of the deprived, the exploited and the downtrodden. The history of the communist party is deeply intertwined with the life of the comrade. He understood human suffering and worked for working class upliftment,' she told reporters in New Delhi.

Kerala Governor Arlekar expresses condolences on V.S. Achuthanandan's passing
Kerala Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar has condoled the passing of former Chief Minister and veteran CPI(M) leader V.S. Achuthanandan. In a message here, Mr. Arlekar said that Mr. Achuthanandan was a towering figure in Indian politics and a stalwart of the Communist movement and that his demise marks the end of an era in India's Left political history. A founding leader of the CPI(M) after the 1964 split, he was instrumental in shaping the party's direction both in Kerala and at the national-level. As the 11th Chief Minister of Kerala, he earned acclaim for his firm actions against land encroachments, promotion of public education, anti-corruption measures, and environmental protection. He also served as Leader of the Opposition and chaired the Administrative Reforms Commission, Mr. Arlekar remembered. From humble beginnings, he rose to top through hard work, integrity, simplicity, and a lifelong commitment to the marginalised. His contributions to public life and the Left movement will always be remembered with deep respect, he said.

Multiple burglaries: Two arrested from west Delhi
New Delhi: Delhi Police has arrested two men from central Delhi in connection with multiple burglary cases reported in Mumbai, Bengaluru, and Delhi. The duo had recently robbed a house in Old Rajendra Nagar, decamping with cash, gold, and diamond jewellery. According to police, a complaint was received on May 27 from a resident of Old Rajendra Nagar, who reported that gold and diamond jewellery, silver articles, and cash had been stolen from his home. An FIR was registered at Rajendra Nagar police station, and a special team was formed to investigate the case. DCP (central) Nidhin Valsan said, "The team examined CCTV footage from several locations. Acting on a tip-off, both suspects were apprehended from Shivaji Park in West Delhi after a brief chase on July 18." Both Akbar and Ramesh are proclaimed offenders with previous cases under various charges including robbery, dacoity, and under the Arms Act. Akbar has been active since 2021 with 20 cases registered against him, while Ramesh has been involved in 13 cases since 2022. Together, they are suspected of being involved in at least 16 robberies across cities. Police recovered 121 grams of gold worth over Rs 12 lakh from their possession. During questioning, the duo disclosed they had divided the stolen goods with a third accomplice, Monu alias Abhishek, who remains at large.
