2025 Arizona Cardinals training camp roster preview: RB DeeJay Dallas
The Arizona Cardinals report to training camp on July 22 and begin the process of preparing for the regular season, forming the roster and determining starting jobs and roles on the team.
Leading up to the start of camp, we will take a look at every player on the offseason roster, their background, their contract, their play in 2024, questions they face and their roster outlook.
This focuses on running back DeeJay Dallas.
DeeJay Dallas background, 2024 season
Dallas enters his second season with the Cardinals. He signed a three-year, $8.25 million contract in the 2024 offseason with the Cardinals as a free agent after four seasons with the Seattle Seahawks.
He was originally a fourth-round pick in 2020 by the Seahawks. In Seattle, he made a name for himself as a returner and special teams player. With the Seahawks in four seasons, he logged 599 offensive snaps and 949 on special teams.
In 2024, he averaged 30.6 yards on 15 kick returns and had a 96-yard return for a touchdown, the first of the 2024 under the "dynamic kickoff" rule. He played a total of 275 special teams snaps and then got 54 offensive snaps late in the season when there were injuries. He had 49 yards on nine rushing attempts and three catches for 11 yards, including a touchdown.
DeeJay Dallas 2025 contract details, cap hit
Dallas enters the second year of his three-year contract. He is scheduled to make just less than $2.4 million in salary and up to $255,000 in per-game roster bonuses. His cap hit in 2025 will be a little less than $3.1 million.
Questions he faces and 2025 roster outlook
Head coach Jonathan Gannon calls Dallas one of his "war daddies" for the team on the field and in the locker room. Can he continue to prove his worth in the return game and on fourth down, in addition to being able to produce offensively if called upon? As special teams coordinator Jeff Rodgers expects the return rate to skyrocket to about 70% in 2025 with adjustments to the kickoff rule, having a stud returner like Dallas is valuable.
If he isn't a lock for the roster, he is a clear favorite to be the team's fourth running back, their primary kick returner and a core special teams player.

Six-time All-Star sends warning to Mavericks fans about Cooper Flagg
It's not very easy to come into the NBA and be a superstar right away. Over the past few years, only a few players have done so, which is why the Dallas Mavericks and their fan base need to give Cooper Flagg some time to figure things out. Flagg, expected to be a generational talent, might have some struggles early on, and that's fine. When speaking about how Flagg might look, former six-time NBA All-Star Jermaine O'Neal, who was also a three-time All-NBA selection, had the same message for Mavericks fans and Flagg. Advertisement He added that he needs some grace and that things might not be as easy as they might seem instantly. "He has to be able to give himself some grace, as well," O'Neal said." Obviously, a lot of pressure being the number one pick going to a situation that they lost another really good player, so people are expecting him to come in and to fill the void. He needs to really just focus on what he can do in his development, and give himself grace over a period of time that he has to understand the transition from college to the NBA." For a player of Flagg's caliber, many Mavericks fans will be expecting him to come in and instantly make an impact. MORE: Mavericks coach, Lakers NBA champion leaves Dallas for Nuggets job It's certainly possible that he does, but even if he struggles a bit offensively, his defense should be more than fine. Flagg is known as a generational defender, so at the very least, he should help Dallas on that front, which is important, according to everything Nico Harrison has said over the past few months.

2025 Arizona Cardinals training camp roster preview: RB Michael Carter
The Arizona Cardinals report to training camp on July 22 and begin the process of preparing for the regular season, forming the roster and determining starting jobs and roles on the team. Leading up to the start of camp, we will take a look at every player on the offseason roster, their background, their contract, their play in 2024, questions they face and their roster outlook. Advertisement This focuses on running back Michael Carter. Michael Carter background, 2024 season Carter enters his third year but second full season with the Cardinals. Originally a fourth-round pick in 2021 by the New York Jets, he was waived in November 2023 and the Cardinals claimed him. Finishing the 2023 season, he was the Cardinals' backup running back to James Conner and 149 yards on 6.8 yards per carry. However, last season, after the Cardinals drafted Trey Benson in the third round, Carter didn't earn a spot on the roster out of training camp. Benson was the main backup running back. Carter wasn't as good as Emari Demercado to be the third-down back and isn't the special teams player that DeeJay Dallas is. Advertisement He spent the year on the practice squad until late in the season when injuries hit and he was signed to the active roster. He rushed for 131 yards and a touchdown on 3.7 yards per carry and caught 11 passes for 57 yards. Michael Carter 2025 contract details, cap hit Carter is scheduled to make $1.17 million against the salary cap and will count $1.27 million against the cap. Questions he faces, roster outlook Carter finds himself in basically the same situation as last offseason. Can he prove he is valuable as a third-down back or on special teams? To make the team, he will need to beat Benson, be better than Demercado to be the third-down back or be able to supplant Dallas on special teams. Advertisement As things stand, he likely will be in the same situation as a season ago, he will be on the outside looking in.
