KL Saturday Rally: Police Receive 60 Reports
Acting Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Mohamed Usuf Jan Mohamad said the rally is expected to be attended by between 10,000 and 15,000 participants, involving a combination of non-governmental organisations (NGOs), students and the general public.
He said participants are expected to gather at five main locations, namely the National Mosque, Pasar Seni, Sultan Abdul Samad Masjid Jamek, Kampung Baru Masjid Jamek and a shopping complex in the capital before moving to Dataran Merdeka.
"To ensure the safety of public service users at the maximum level, personnel of public service operators and police will be increased at several stations involved," he said in a statement today.
Mohamed Usuf said among the spots involved are the LRT stations at KL Sentral, Masjid Jamek, Pasar Seni, Dang Wangi, Plaza Rakyat and Bandaraya; as well as MRT and Monorail stations such as Muzium Negara, Merdeka, Bukit Bintang, Imbi, Raja Chulan, Bukit Nanas, Medan Tuanku and Chow Kit.
He said police expect traffic congestion heading towards the city centre due to the increase in the number of assembly participants entering the affected areas, but no road closures would be carried out.
"Organisers and participants are advised to comply with all existing regulations and laws during the assembly in line with the rights to freedom of peaceful assembly as provided for under the Federal Constitution. These provisions should be used prudently," he said.
Commenting further, Mohamed Usuf said that among the prohibitions during the assembly included carrying weapons or sharp objects, firecrackers or flares, provocative banners, slanderous speeches, bringing children and actions against the instructions of the authorities.
"Strict action will be taken against any individual or group that causes chaos, riots or excessive provocation," he stressed.

Asean FMS urge restraint, immediate ceasefire in Thailand-Cambodia border conflict
KUALA LUMPUR: The Asean Foreign Ministers have urged Thailand and Cambodia to exercise maximum restraint and implement an immediate ceasefire over the ongoing border dispute between both countries. They also called on both sides to return to the negotiating table and refrain from taking any actions that may undermine peace efforts. In a statement dated July 27, the ministers said they are deeply concerned with the situation that has resulted in an increasing number of casualties on both sides, destruction of public properties, and displacement of a large number of people along the border areas. "We further urge both sides to cease all hostilities, return to the negotiating table to restore peace and stability, and settle disputes and differences by peaceful means, based on the principles of the Charter of the United Nations, the Asean Charter, as well as the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia (TAC) and in the spirit of Asean family, unity, and good neighbourliness," the statement read. The ministers have reaffirmed their support for efforts by the Asean Chair to facilitate dialogue between both sides and bring an end to the fighting. The statement came ahead of a planned peace talks between Cambodia and Thailand scheduled for 3 pm Monday in Putrajaya. Cambodian Premier Hun Manet and Thailand's acting Prime Minister Phumtham Wechayachai separately confirmed yesterday that they would attend the highly anticipated meeting initiated by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim as current Asean Chair. The two Southeast Asian neighbours have a long history of diplomatic rows over an 817-kilometre undemarcated stretch of their shared border. Tensions between Thailand and Cambodia have been simmering since May 28 following a skirmish between their troops near the disputed Preah Vihear border area, which claimed the life of a Cambodian soldier. Police investigate four reports from Dataran Merdeka rally
KUALA LUMPUR: Police have confirmed receiving four reports linked to the rally held at Dataran Merdeka on Saturday. One case involves an effigy resembling Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim being caned near the National Mosque, while the other three pertain to drone usage. Acting Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Mohamed Usuf Jan Mohamad stated that the effigy incident is being investigated under multiple laws, including the Sedition Act 1948, the Penal Code, and the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998. 'The case has been referred to the Classified Crime Investigation Unit in Bukit Aman,' he said during a press conference. The remaining reports concerning drone operations have been forwarded to the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM).
