I threw myself a birthday party and only three people turned up – there were empty tables everywhere, I'm so embarrassed

The Sun14-05-2025
A FASHION entrepreneur has revealed the mortifying moment only three people turned up at her birthday party - leaving empty tables all around her.
Olivia Purcell, from Port of Menteith, Stirling, turned 26 last month but had planned a celebration with friends over the weekend.

She booked out three tables at a bar in Glasgow on Saturday night for the birthday bash but was left feeling awkward when they remained mostly empty.
Eating her cake sadly by herself in a TikTok clip, she said: "Booked a table for 20 people and nobody turned up. Drunk called my ex's mum. Spent £200 and didn't get one good picture
"Is it even your birthday if u didn't cry lol?"
Olivia, who owns clothing label Delu'Lu, was then forced to share clips of the failed party in response to a social media user who claimed she was "lying for clout".
She later branded the incident "embarrassing", and added: "I've got us a cake and everything, who's here to sing happy birthday? No one."
Her clip quickly went viral with 1.5million views as people said they heartbroken for the Scots fashion boss.
One person said: "I've come to learn it's quality over quantity, I've stopped trying to get people together as they most times say they're coming, confirm just before then don't bother showing up or having the decency to message you… it's horrible."
"I actually feel really sad about this, sending you love and success", wrote a second.
A third insisted: "The important people showed up."
A fourth admitted: "This literally just happened to me on Saturday too! Quality over quantity girl."
I work 5 jobs & sold my phone number to a guy for £100 to fund my dream business
"All been there girl it's a horrible thing", sympathised a fifth.
Meanwhile, a sixth cried: "This breaks my heart."
We told earlier how Olivia works five jobs and clocks in impressive 18-hour days to fund her clothing business.
On a typical day, she juggles being a makeup artist at Dior, working at a nightclub, helping her mum with her teeth whitening company and being a TikTok content creator.
She's even admitted to selling her phone number to a guy for £100 to add to her savings pot.
And when you'd expect her to fit in some much-needed sleep between all of that, the 26-year-old designer is instead building her fashion brand Delu'Lu.

Livi has invested thousands of pounds of her own money into the label so far and launched her first collection in February - which sold out in four days.

The fly-on-the-wall show documents the trials, glitz and glam of clients based at the agency, as well as the female founders Amy Moore and Kirsten Cameron.
Olivia joined series three as one of six hopeful influencers vying for a spot on the Aquarius Creative roster.

'UK's poshest Greggs' is in Grade II listed building and steeped in history

Greggs is one of the UK's most beloved fast food chains, and fans of the eatery are just realising there's a particularly 'posh' branch in a 300-year-old building There's nothing quite like sinking your teeth into a Greggs pastry while you're rushing about, or grabbing one of their sandwiches or coffees from the beloved sausage roll emporium for your lunch. Devotees love it for being affordable and dependable - and you can spot its distinctive blue, white and yellow Greggs branding from miles away. ‌ But this particular branch in Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk, appears rather different and has been crowned "the poshest" Greggs in Britain. This extraordinary branch sits within a 17th century Grade II* listed structure and is frequently hailed as the most beautiful Greggs across the nation. ‌ The heritage building's facade features timber panelling and merges Victorian, Georgian, Tudor and 1930s architectural elements. ‌ Back in the 1700s, it launched as a grocer and tea merchant, which remained in business until the 1960s. Today, it houses Britain's beloved bakery chain. Until recently, the outlet was covered in scaffolding as part of an 18-month restoration scheme. This work is now finished: the building's front has been reconstructed whilst numerous windows have been renewed and sections of the roof have been fixed. On Reddit, the outlet was christened "the country's poshest Greggs". ‌ This week, a TikTok user posted footage of the establishment and declared: "Sorry but this is the poshest Greggs I've ever seen." Greggs responded to the clip, saying: "RIP Henry VIII you would have loved Bury St Edmunds Greggs." ‌ Someone else remarked: "That isn't a Greggs. That's a Gregorys." Another said: "It's like Greggs and Wetherspoons had a baby." Another person concurred, observing: "That ain't Greggs that's Gregory's tavern for the whimsical." "I just know people eating sausage rolls with their pinky's out," one user quipped. Another likened the place to "Greggs if it was in a fantasy world." ‌ A local resident chimed in: "I grew up in that town. Everybody called it bakers oven cause that's what it was called before Greggs took it over." "I kind of like the fact they've not changed the outside of the building too much," said one other. "Love Bury Greggs," another fan declared. "If only every Greggs looked like that," added one other. Another food lover tried the "UK's most expensive sandwiches" from Harrods and shared her review. Do you have a story? Get in touch at

Wedding guests left in stitches after groomsman's TROUSERS suddenly fall down mid-ceremony

Wedding guests were left in stitches after an awkward blunder saw a groomsman with his trousers down in the middle of a ceremony. In a viral video captured on X, the heartfelt moment a bride and groom appeared to be sharing their vows was interrupted by a man whose suit bottoms suddenly fell to the floor. The clip, which has more than 4.7 million views, showed how he immediately recovered the fluster by slipping the clothing back on; but fellow attendees struggled to contain their laughter. While the faux-pas was over quickly, others in the party descended into barely concealed giggles. Elsewhere, despite the initial embarrassment the man himself couldn't help but grin as he realised the others took the accident in good spirit. While it is not known where the video was filmed, social media commenters couldn't believe the hilarity of the slip-up. 'The groomsmen trying to keep it together is gold,' one penned. 'Wow these people are way more composed that I ever would have been,' another added. A third wrote: 'I'm impressed they kept it together. I would have lost it.' 'How these people are not rolling on the floor laughing is beyond me,' a commenter said. Another joked that if the groomsman doesn't come from the bride's side of the family, then he will 'never be allowed in their house'. Others were convinced that the gag was a 'set up' filmed 'on purpose', whereas felt confused that 'no one even flinched'. 'Guess this isn't the first time dude dropped his pants at a wedding,' one quipped. It comes as recently, a bride shared the hilarious moment a rat crashed her wedding after falling from the trees above while her spouse was reading his heartfelt vows. Tamara Alsawaf-Valli is a Texas-based mom who recently tied the knot at her dream wedding with the love of her life. Her whimsical wedding was going perfectly until an unexpected guest made a shock appearance while her partner was gushing about how much he adored her. While it is not known where the video was filmed, social media commenters couldn't believe the hilarity of the slip-up As he said Tamara was his 'soulmate' and 'first and only true love,' a rat bounced out of the ferns above and joined the party. The rodent scurried through the bridal party as soon as his feet hit the ground, sparking a wave of gasps from the guests. Despite the 'objection' from the four-legged creature, the bride and groom took the awkward moment as a chance to showcase their sense of humor and teased it was 'perfect timing'. Her partner's emotional vows came to a screeching halt as attendees searched for the rodent under their seats. The unexpected incident was shared by the mother on TikTok, where it has so far amassed more than 3.2 million views. The clip was captioned: 'Point of view: You are getting married and your soulmate and the love of your life is saying the most perfect and emotional vows when suddenly a surprise guest falls from the plants above us. 'Ratatouille crashed the wedding and made it a moment we will certainly never forget.' 'That time I was marrying the love of my life and rat fell from the ferns above us,' the text overlay read. Guests couldn't hold their laughter as the area filled with chuckles. The groomsmen, guests and photographers seemed to search for the rat to ensure it didn't disrupt the ceremony again. After the interruption, the groom continued his vows and the couple said 'I do.' People on the web flooded the comments section and expressed their shock at the incident as some even branded it a 'blessing,' while others made comparisons to Disney's famous Ratatouille movie, which saw Remy the rat secretly cooking for restaurant guests. One person said: 'That's literally your chef.'

Discussion on dementia stories to follow UK premiere of Lost Lear at Traverse on Sunday evening

A special discussion around telling stories of dementia will follow the first UK performance of Lost Lear at The Traverse on Sunday 27 July. The new show by award-winning Irish theatre maker Dan Colley is a moving look at living with dementia, told through the familiar lens of Shakespeare's characters Following the preview performance on the 27 July, Dan will be joined by Alex Howard and Gus Harrower from Capital Theatres dementia-friendly programme and Magdalena Schamberger, who specialises in creating theatre for those with dementia Lost Lear will run on the main stage at the Traverse from 2 to 24 August Following its first-ever UK performance at Traverse Festival on 27 July, the hit Irish theatre show Lost Lear will host a special public discussion around telling the complex stories of dementia in theatre. The discussion will feature Lost Lear's award-winning creator Dan Colley, who will be joined by Alex Howard and Gus Harrower from Capital Theatres Edinburgh's dementia-friendly programme and Scotland-based theatre-maker and consultant Magdalene Schamberger, who has over 20 years experience working with people living with dementia. The discussion will look at the initial creation of Lost Lear and its collaborations between Dementia Carers Campaign Network and the Alzheimer's Society of Ireland. The play itself, a loose adaptation of Shakespeare's King Lear, examines how we know ourselves and who we are to each other, amidst the complexities of dementia. The discussion will also be a chance for audiences to talk about how the show has resonated with their own experiences of living with and caring for those with dementia, with an invite being sent out to people from local dementia communities. 'Dan collaborated with the Dementia Carers Campaign Network (DCCN), an advocacy group supported by The Alzheimer Society of Ireland, in the early days of writing this play.' says Judy Williams, Advocacy, Engagement and Participation Officer for The Alzheimer Society of Ireland. 'Through focus groups, carers shared their experiences, shaping Dan's approach to the play. For the DCCN, the project was compelling, inclusive, and in some ways, healing. It also provided new opportunities for carers to share their stories, while raising awareness about the challenges they face. We were very grateful for the opportunity to have this engagement with Dan and Matt, and we wish them all the best at the Edinburgh Fringe 2025. We hope as many people as possible have the opportunity to see this sophisticated and thought-provoking play.' 'Lost Lear is a captivating journey, from an energetic and rambunctious beginning to the poignant and gentle end, it portrays the bewilderment of someone who wants to care, trying to have the shared experience with the person living with dementia, struggling and sometimes failing.' says Susan Crampton of the Dementia Carers Campaign Network. 'I am delighted to hear that Lost Lear is going to Edinburgh and many more people will have the opportunity to see it for the first time – or again.' Lost Lear is a moving and darkly comic remix of Shakespeare's play told from the point of view of Joy, a person with dementia, who is living in an old memory of rehearsing King Lear. Joy's delicately maintained reality is upended by the arrival of her estranged son who, being cast as Cordelia, must find a way to speak his piece from within the limited role he's given. Using puppetry, projection and live video effects, the audience are landed in Joy's world as layers of her past and present, fiction and reality, overlap and distort. Lost Lear is a thought provoking meditation on theatre, artifice and the possibility of communicating across the chasms between us. Following rave reviews for its Irish premiere, where it picked up nominations for Best New Play, Audience Choice, Best AV Design and Best Supporting Actor at the Irish Times Theatre Awards, Lost Lear will have its UK premiere at the Traverse Festival in Edinburgh this August. Following its Fringe run, Lost Lear will tour to North America in Autumn 2025. Co-produced by Mermaid Arts Centre and Riverbank Arts Centre. Funded by the Arts Council of Ireland and supported by Fishamble's New Play Clinic. Part of the 2025 Culture Ireland Edinburgh Showcase. Traverse 1 Preview 27 July 7.30pm and 2 August 9.30pm Then 3 – 24 August (not Mondays) Times vary. Run time: 1 hr 15 min Tickets: £5 – £25 Like this: Like Related
