Kay Burley joins This Morning after bitter feud with another star of the show

Scottish Sun19-06-2025

KAY Burley made her This Morning debut this week - stepping into a segment regularly fronted by Camilla Tominey.
The veteran broadcaster made her debut on the ITV sofa just weeks after a public spat with regular contributor Camilla - and appeared to step directly into her territory.

Kay appeared alongside Gyles Brandreth to discuss the day's news, including the Princess of Wales pulling out of Royal Ascot yesterday — a subject closely associated with Royal correspondent Camilla.
Taking the lead on the topic, Kay said: 'The point I'm trying to make is the conspiracy theorists will be asking, well why is she not there, where is she?'
Camilla is This Morning's royal expert and appeared on the ITV daytime show on Monday.
The appearance follows a blistering column by Camilla, who described Kay as 'TV's answer to Liz Truss' in the wake of her departure from Sky News.
She added: 'Some may say good riddance' and called her 'as resilient as her facelift.'
Kay, 64, hit back, accusing Camilla of misogyny and writing on X: '#Sweetie ⁦@CamillaTominey⁩ as the late, great Madeleine Albright said, there is a special place in hell for women who don't support other women.'
While tensions between the two broadcasters simmered, others in the industry rushed to support Kay's legacy.
Susanna Reid called her 'a powerful interviewer and a supporter of women in television,' while Victoria Derbyshire said she had 'blazed an absolute trail.'
Kay joined Sky News as a founding presenter in 1989 and left earlier this year after 36 years on air.
She had been the face of Sky News for major world events, such as the death of Princess Diana, the births of the Royal babies and the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
Kay Burley, 64, retires from Sky News after 36 years and says 'it's time for me to indulge in other passions'-
As well as hosting live TV, Kay published her debut novel, First Ladies in 2011, which was followed by her second book Betrayal in 2012.
The anchor's career first started in BBC local radio and Tyne Tees Television.
She then joined ITV's TV-am in 1985 as a reporter and occasional newsreader.
Kay shares her only child - who's real name is Alexander - with her ex-husband, Steve Kutner.
Before leaving Sky News in February, Kay had hosted the 24-hour rolling news channel's breakfast programme for the last five years, moving from her afternoon slot in 2019.
Leaving Sky News, she said: "From a standing start to one of the most recognised and valued brands in global news, it's been an honour and privilege to work with some of the best and hardest working teams in the business.
"News by its very nature is often devastating and together we've covered so many life-changing events - from the tragic death of Diana, the shocking terror attack of 9/11; the Asian Tsunami; the Concorde air disaster.
"But we've also enjoyed some wonderful high notes too, haven't we - the thrill of London winning the chance to host the 2012 Olympics; a plethora of royal weddings; jubilees and who can forget days and days and DAYS waiting for royal babies to arrive at the Lindo Wing.
"But after over a million minutes of live TV news - more than anyone else in the world - its time for me to indulge in some of my other passions - including my love for travel.
"So, after covering 12 separate general elections - including Sir Keir Starmer's victory last year - I am retiring from Sky News - let politicians of every party just rejoice at that news!
"Thank you for waking up and tuning in every morning. I can't tell you how much I have appreciated your support over the last three and a half decades: You're awesome.
"I will post more on my social media and hope to see you around. Please keep in touch."
Sky bosses took Kay off air for six months in 2020 after her birthday bash flouted Coronavirus lockdown rules at the time with the anchor apologising for the "error of judgement".

Original lead singer of The Searchers dies aged 84

Original lead singer of The Searchers dies aged 84 Ronnie "Shorty Rogers" Woodbridge was the original lead singer of The Searchers, who were one of the earliest success stories of Liverpool's booming music scene The Searchers guitarist and singer Mike Pender and Ronnie Woodbridge (Image: Mike Pender facebook ) A trailblazer of the Merseybeat era, Ronnie "Shorty Rogers" Woodbridge, who played a pivotal role in shaping Liverpool's thriving music scene in the 1960s and 70s, has sadly passed away. Woodbridge was the original lead vocalist of the iconic band, The Searchers, one of the pioneering groups to achieve widespread success. The rock legend, 84, left an enduring legacy that spanned over six decades, from performances at The Olympia to Edinburgh's dance halls. Norman Stevens, an 87 year old veteran of Merseybeat and a member of the band Duke Duval, shared a memorable encounter with Ronnie: "One night we were playing at the Holyoake Hall on Smithdown Road, and this lanky tall guy came up and said 'can I do a couple of numbers lads?', and we said yeah. ‌ "We called him on and he rocked the place. You couldn't hear what we were playing for him. He was throwing himself all over the place, he had all the actions going." ‌ As one of the founding members of the band that would become The Searchers, Ronnie contributed to the group's early success, belting out hits such as "Sweets for My Sweet", "Love Potion No. 9", and "Hippy Hippy Shake" throughout the 1960s. The news of his passing comes on the heels of The Searchers' farewell performance on Glastonbury's Acoustic Stage on Friday night. For the latest TV and showbiz gossip sign up to our newsletter . Although Ronnie left the band before its meteoric rise to international stardom (becoming the second Liverpool group, after The Beatles, to conquer America), he forged a remarkable music career in his own right. Article continues below After rising to prominence as the lead vocalist with the Nat Allen Orchestra and charming crowds at the Locarno Ballroom in West Derby, which is today known as The Olympia, he uprooted to Edinburgh in 1960 and took a gig at the Palais de Danse in Fountainbridge, reports the Liverpool Echo. He humorously donned the stage name "Shorty Rogers", a witty nod to his considerable stature, entertaining audiences six nights a week. When the dance hall era waned, he pressed on with his solo ventures across rock and roll, country music, and comedy, gracing various stages throughout Scotland. ‌ Norman reminisced: "He was at the start of The Searchers, in fact it was him who gave them the name The Searchers from the John Wayne film of the same name. He was a nice guy too, a real Liverpool bloke we should all be proud of. "When Duke Duval finished we became the resident band at the Empress Jazz Club on Victoria Road in New Brighton and Ronnie used to come and sing with us from time to time. "He was spotted by someone from a large orchestra from Edinburgh along with this lad called Johnny, who was what we called 'the Liverpool Elvis Presley'. Him and Ronnie Wood were invited to join the large orchestra in Edinburgh and off they went, and good luck to them. ‌ "It was an absolutely marvellous time because it was all new, all raw, all against everything that our parents had stood for. They all still wore suits and ties, and we said 'bugger that we want to do what we want to do!' and off it went. We broke new ground and it echoed all over the country, bands springing up, it was all going on." Ronnie was born in January 1941 and raised in Anfield by his father and stepmother, alongside three siblings. In 1962, Ronnie and his wife Frances tied the knot, and their two sons followed in their father's musical footsteps. Article continues below Mike Pender, the renowned guitarist and vocalist of The Searchers, paid homage to his late friend, remarking: "I was saddened to learn of the passing of Ron Woodbridge. "Ron was with me the day we watched John Wayne give us the unforgettable name still famous today! Goodbye Ron. Gone but not forgotten."

Kate Middleton and William face huge decision as 'reality hits home' for George

Our community members are treated to special offers, promotions and adverts from us and our partners. You can check out at any time. More info The upcoming summer break will provide the Princess of Wales with a valuable opportunity to spend quality time with her family before her three children embark on a new academic year. This summer will be particularly significant for Kate, as substantial changes are looming on the horizon, especially for Prince George. As Kate and Prince William's eldest child celebrates his 12th birthday on 22 July, he will soon be entering his final year at Lambrook School alongside his younger siblings, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, before transitioning to secondary education. Recently, George, who is second in line to the throne, has been making more public appearances as he approaches his teenage years, with Kate offering gentle guidance at each event. As George turns 12, he faces not only the prospect of joining a new school next year but also the dawning realisation of his future role. According to former BBC Royal correspondent Jennie Bond, "the reality of his destiny has begun to hit home" at this age. (Image: PA) (Image: Getty Images) Jennie tells the Mirror: "He tends to look rather serious when he's 'on parade' these days. Charlotte looks demure, Louis looks impish, but George sometimes looks rather preoccupied to me. And who can blame him? It is an extraordinary prospect to know that one day you will be taking on the huge role that you are now watching your grandfather perform. "But he's not, by any means, always a serious little chap. When he's with his dad at a football match, or fooling around with his siblings and his father, he has a wonderful smile on his face, and seems happy and relaxed.", reports the Mirror. In May, George undertook his most significant Royal engagement yet when he attended commemorations marking the 80th anniversary of VE Day. Alongside Charlotte and Louis, he mingled with veterans to watch a military parade, and made an appearance on the Buckingham Palace balcony for the RAF flypast. Taking a major step in his Royal duties, he joined his parents in conversing with Second World War heroes at a Buckingham Palace tea party. He listened attentively to their poignant stories and asked questions about their experiences. He was guided through the event by Kate, 43, who beckoned him over to chat with the former servicemen and women, helping her eldest son feel comfortable. The veterans at the gathering spoke highly of the young prince's curiosity about their wartime experiences. Last month, George also accompanied his grandfather, King Charles, for Trooping the Colour, riding in a carriage and, once again, appearing on the balcony of Buckingham Palace for another impressive RAF flypast. Prince George is not alone on his journey towards adolescence, with the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge by his side every step of the way. Despite an increasing public profile, Kate and William are adamant about giving George and his siblings as normal a life as possible. This includes a regular education, cheering on Aston Villa at football matches with his dad, and only making appearances at the most significant Royal events. This approach marks a departure from Prince William's own teenage years, which were spent navigating the complexities of his parents' separation and time at boarding school. At the tender ages of 15 and 12, William and Prince Harry endured the devastating loss of their mother, Diana, Princess of Wales, who tragically passed away in a car accident in Paris in 1997. Kate, however, is acutely aware of the profound impact early childhood has on later life, undoubtedly applying this knowledge in raising her children. Jennie comments: "I think George's close and loving relationship with his parents will prove invaluable as he continues to grow up. Catherine is now such an expert on how children develop and the emotions they go through: her support and advice for George will continue to be a key factor in his wellbeing." One Royal who, Jennie believes, will have set a precedent on how to raise a future King is the mother-in-law Kate never met - Diana. Her unique approach to parenting, which entirely rewrote the Royal rule book, saw her insist that William and Harry were exposed to life beyond palace walls, whilst simultaneously ensuring they both grasped the magnitude of their roles. She famously took her sons to McDonald's, made them queue like everyone else during days out at theme parks, and even brought them to homeless shelters to expose them to life outside the Royal bubble. Those childhood visits evidently had an impact on William, now 43, who has publicly stated his ambition is to end homelessness and concedes he, too, would be open to taking George to meet those who are experiencing homelessness. Jennie believes that Diana's approach, as well as allowing her children to be normal boys, will have undoubtedly influenced William - and, in turn, Kate - regarding how to raise George. She adds: "I think William has drawn on the openly loving and tactile relationship he had with his mother to help him bring up his own children. "He will remember how Diana insisted that her boys should know more about the real world than royal princes before them. She made them aware of having play days and work days. On play days they could wear jeans, eat burgers and enjoy go-karting. On work days they had to dress and behave as princes of the realm. "I think William has made sure that his own children have as many play days as possible, but he and Catherine have also gradually introduced them to the formal world of being royal." The upcoming weeks will likely see increased speculation about which secondary school George will attend. Jennie believes it will be a challenging decision for William and Kate, who will also be considering what's best for Charlotte and Louis. "For so many youngsters, teenage years can be hard, but for a prince, everything is a whole lot harder," she says. "First and foremost, the school has to be able to offer or accommodate 24/7 protection. Then there is the impact on other pupils because, like it or not, George will always be different. "I suppose Eton remains high on the list - for William the school was a haven at a very, very difficult time in his life following his mother's death - but Marlborough College is definitely another contender. "Catherine enjoyed her years there, especially the sports facilities, and a big plus must be that it is co-educational, so the other two children could join George there." Both schools boast impressive alumni, with Prince Harry also attending Eton, along with prime ministers such as David Cameron and Boris Johnson, and actors Eddie Redmayne and Tom Hiddleston. Meanwhile, former Marlborough pupils include Princess Eugenie, comedian Jack Whitehall and Samantha Cameron, the wife of former Prime Minister David Cameron. "Personally, I would like to see the siblings at the same school because I think they would be a great comfort to one another during these tricky years," Jennie opines. "I would also like to see them at a day school, or as weekly boarders, so that they could still enjoy the lovely, cosy home environment that William and Catherine have worked so hard to create for them." Jennie emphasises the importance of privacy, noting, "William was given a good deal of privacy at Eton, especially after Diana's death. And I think he will do everything possible to make sure that George and the others are able to negotiate this important growing up stage of their lives without worrying that cameras are around every corner." However, when it comes to making the ultimate decision, it's clear Kate will prioritise what's best for George, with Jennie remarking on his readiness for the future due to his parents' guidance. She remarks, "I think George is pretty lucky to have these two as his parents. And if Catherine needs advice, then I think the best person she can turn to is her husband - who is living out the very same destiny himself."

"First off, thank you to every single one of you who's supported me—whether you were backing me to find love, keeping up with the show, or just curious from what you've seen online—I'm genuinely grateful." "My journey might've been shorter than expected, but I walked in as me and walked out as me. No regrets," he continued. "I got to meet some incredible people, make real bonds and live out something most only dream about. "Seeing my name in headlines has been surreal to say the least—but trust, this is just the beginning." "I'm walking out with my head high and my heart full. Can't wait to show you lot what's next 🤞" he concluded, before signing off: "Big love always". Before his hasty exit, Remell ruffled the feathers of both his fellow islanders and viewers at home with his efforts to find romance. Being sent to a 'sleepover' with new female islanders, Remell was seen striking up a romance with new girl Poppy, with the pair snogging at every opportunity. Love Island fans demand Remell is axed from the villa after he shamelessly flirts with bombshell behind Alima's back However, when it came to returning to the villa, Remell opted to remain with Alina, who he was officially coupled up with in the main villa. However, the truth came out when Helena – who was also invited to the sleepover with the new islanders – told Alina what Remell had been up to. This led to Alina furiously confronting him about what he had done and ending things between them for good. 5 Remell had teased to Poppy that he would take her back into the main villa Credit: Eroteme
