Pakistani Actor Humaira Asghar, Found Dead In Her Karachi Flat This Week, Died Nine Months Ago: Report

NDTV6 days ago
New Delhi:
Pakistani actor Humaira Asghar Ali, whose body was discovered in her Karachi apartment on Tuesday, is believed to have died in October 2024, according to a recent report by Arab News.
The body was found in an "advanced stage of decomposition," as confirmed by Karachi Police Surgeon Dr. Summaiya Syed, who conducted the post-mortem.
Investigators now believe she may have died nearly nine months ago.
Deputy Inspector General of Police Syed Asad Raza told the publication, "As per Call Detail Record (CDR) the last call was made in October 2024." The report also mentioned that her neighbours had last seen her in September or October.
Officials revealed that her electricity was disconnected in October 2024 due to non-payment of bills and there was no alternative power source in the apartment.
One of them said, "Humaira's body is likely nine months old. She probably died between paying her last utility bills and when her electricity was disconnected in October 2024, probably due to non-payment of the bill," adding that there were no candles in the house.
Another official said the food in her home had been expired for months. "The jars had rusted, and food had expired six months ago," they shared.
The official further noted that the only other apartment on her floor was unoccupied, so neighbours did not notice any odour. When some residents returned in February, the odour had already subsided. One of her balcony doors was found open and the water pipes in the house were dry and rusted, as per the portal.
Earlier, police had said that Humaira's family had refused to claim her body. However, her brother, Naveed Asghar, has now arrived in Karachi to take custody of the remains.
A DNA test was conducted for verification, as the body was in a severely decomposed state and could not be visually identified. "We have come here and after fulfilling all the legal requirements, have received the dead body," Naveed said.
He shared that Humaira had moved from Lahore to Karachi about seven years ago and had grown distant from the family, visiting them only occasionally.
In recent years, she had not been home for nearly a year and a half. "That is why my father said that if there is any emergency, then you can bury her there [in Karachi]," he said, explaining the family's earlier reluctance. He also questioned whether the landlord had been interviewed. "Whatever matters took place with the landlord, did any of you interview him?" he asked.
Humaira's body was found after her landlord lodged a complaint over unpaid rent. When police entered the apartment, they discovered her body.
Who Was Humaira Asghar Ali?
Hailing from Lahore, Humaira Asghar Ali embarked on her journey in the entertainment industry in 2015. She was seen playing supporting roles in a series of television shows such as Just Married, Ehsaan Faramosh, Guru, and Chal Dil Mere. As for films, she was seen in Jalaibee (2015) and later in Love Vaccine (2021).
She gained further recognition in 2022 when she joined Tamasha Ghar, a reality show which aired on ARY Digital. She also received an award for Best Emerging Talent & Rising Star at the National Woman Leadership Awards in 2023.

Haryana's tech-driven war on illegal mining pays off

1 2 Chandigarh: The Haryana State Enforcement Bureau (HSEB) announced on Wednesday that it has imposed fines totalling Rs 10.69 crore so far in 2025 as part of an extensive and result-oriented campaign against illegal mining across the state. HSEB chief Amitabh Singh Dhillon said the penalty amount marks a 57% increase over last year's figure of Rs 6.78 crore. "This action has not only exerted strong financial pressure on mining mafias but also proved to be a significant achievement in terms of revenue augmentation for the state government," Dhillon said. Between Jan 1 and July 10, 2025, enforcement activity saw a marked rise compared to 2024. While 3,039 mining sites were inspected last year, the number has climbed to 3,733 this year. FIR registrations also increased from 684 in 2024 to 860 in 2025. FIR disposals improved as well, rising from 329 last year to 445 this year. Enquiries revealed that 754 individuals have been arrested in 2025 so far, compared to 626 in 2024. Apart from that, 1,186 vehicles used in illegal mining operations have been seized this year, up from 945 last year. Officials said these figures reflect a decisive blow to the logistical network supporting illegal mining. To strengthen its crackdown, the enforcement bureau has enhanced its technology-driven monitoring systems. Measures such as GPS tracking, drone surveys, and the deployment of special raid teams are helping prevent illegal mining attempts and ensure swift arrests and legal action against offenders. Haryana Director General of Police (DGP) Shatrujeet Singh Kapoor praised the bureau's efforts, emphasising the government's commitment to lawful and environmentally responsible resource utilisation. "Illegal mining not only harms the environment but also disrupts the social fabric. Keeping this in view, enforcement agencies are taking action with full strictness and transparency," Kapoor remarked.

'Malicious Campaign Against My Sister': Balasore Victim's Brother Files FIR

The woman's family has demanded strict action and police protection, warning that if they do not get justice, they will be forced to take extreme steps, including death by suicide. Earlier in the day, the crime branch took over the probe into the woman's death by suicide at Fakir Mohan (Autonomous) College in Balasore. On July 12, the second-year BEd student had set herself on fire outside the principal's office during a protest on campus over allegedly being denied justice over sexual harassment by her head of department (HoD). Director General of Police, CID-CB, Vinaytosh Mishra, in an order deputed DSP Iman Kalyan Nayak of Crime Against Women and Children Wing (CAW&CW), Bhubaneswar, to take up the probe and such other cases registered in that connection. 'DSP, Iman Kalyan Nayak of CAW &CW, Bhubaneswar will have the powers to function as Officer-in-Charge of Balasore district Sahadevkhunta Police Station for the purpose of investigation of this case," Mishra said, adding that Inspector Panchali Rout will assist Nayak. The police have already arrested prime accused Samira Kumar Sahoo, the HoD accused of sexual harassment by the student, and Dillip Ghose, the former principal of Fakir Mohan (Autonomous) College. They were booked under sections 108/3 (5) (abetment), 351 (2) (criminal intimidation), 75 (1) (iii), which deals with sexual harassment and sections 78 and 79 that deal with stalking and insulting the modesty of a woman. Section 108/3(5) of BNS deals with abetment of suicide under which a person can get a maximum of 10 years imprisonment. After a meeting of ministers on Tuesday, Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari had indicated that the state government would expand the ambit of investigation and all persons who are directly or indirectly linked to the harassment of the college student would come under the purview of investigation. 'Though two persons have so far been arrested in the case, there are about 20 people found directly or indirectly harassing the woman student. All will come under the purview of the probe," Pujari said.

Cross-border narco-hawala network linked to Pak busted in Amritsar

Amritsar: Amritsar Commissionerate Police claimed to have dismantled a cross-border narco-hawala network with links to Pakistan. The cops have nabbed five persons and recovered a cache of illegal weapons, drugs, and hawala money from their possession. Commissioner of police, Gurpreet Singh Bhullar, informed on Wednesday that police recovered five pistols, including two PX5 9mm, two Glock 9mm, and one .32 bore, along with two live cartridges, 50 grams of heroin, a drone suspected to have been used for cross-border smuggling, and Rs 6.90 lakh in hawala cash. Those arrested have been identified as Gurvinder Singh alias Dolu (25), a plumber from Chheharta, Amritsar, with seven previous cases involving the Arms Act, attempt to murder, and robbery; Jagjit Singh alias Jaggi (40), a shop worker from New Delhi with no previous record; Arshdeep Singh alias Baba (20), a granthi from Gharinda, whose mother and brother were earlier arrested with 2 kg of heroin, Rs 30,000 in drug money, and 10 pistols; Karanjeet Singh alias Karan (21), a labourer from rural Amritsar with no criminal background; and Harpal Singh alias Bhala (25), a painter from Tarn Taran, also with no prior record. Bhullar said the investigations revealed that the gang was using drones to smuggle heroin and firearms from Pakistan into Indian territory. Jagjit Singh, who fled Afghanistan in 2014 following the rise of the Taliban, developed ties with a Pakistani national named Pathan, who now operates a dry fruit business in Pakistan believed to be a front for narcotics operations. Acting on instructions from Pakistani smugglers Shah and Shehzad Jatt, Jagjit facilitated hawala transactions in the Amritsar region, receiving a 2% commission on the money he helped move. A case has been registered at Chheharta police station under the NDPS Act and Arms Act.
