Alexa Bliss has revealed that her surprise return at the 2025 Women's Royal Rumble match was about as last-minute as it gets. The multi-time champion's comeback was not finalized until mere hours before the show went on the air.
In a recent appearance on The Bella Twins' podcast, Bliss detailed the chaotic 24 hours that led to her first match in over two years. She confirmed that WWE did not make the final decision to have her in the match until the overnight hours before the event.
The 11th Hour Alexa Bliss Call
Bliss told Nikki and Brie Bella that her return was hanging in the balance, even as fans were filing into the stadium in Indianapolis. She said the situation was uncertain until the early morning hours on the day of the show.
"I got the call at midnight the night before," Bliss said. "It wasn't fully decided until like 4 am. And then I get a call at 5. They're like, 'Alright, we need you on a plane by 10 am.'"
To keep her return a secret, Bliss and WWE took extra precautions. She flew into Cincinnati, Ohio, and then made the nearly two-hour drive to Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis to avoid being spotted by fans at the airport.

The secrecy was a success, as Bliss's return was a genuine surprise to nearly everyone. She stated that not even the other competitors in the match knew she was in the building until she was in the Gorilla position, waiting to make her entrance.

"No one knew I was there, not even the girls," she added. "No one knew I was there until I was in Gorilla."
Bliss entered the match at number 21, reportedly taking a spot that was held by Shotzi during rehearsals. She received one of the loudest crowd reactions of the night.
The WWE Comeback That Almost Didn't Happen
Bliss's return came after a two-year absence from WWE, during which she gave birth to her first child. In the weeks leading up to the Royal Rumble, reports had circulated that her comeback was stalled due to a contract dispute with WWE. The situation was reportedly resolved just in time for her to be added to the match, explaining the last-minute nature of her return.
Since her return, Bliss has re-established herself as a top star. This weekend at the Evolution premium live event, she will team with Charlotte Flair to compete in the Fatal 4-Way match for the WWE Women's Tag Team Championship.

AEW's MJF Praises Unpopular WWE Business Practice
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. AEW star MJF has shared his thoughts on WWE running shows head-to-head against his home promotion. In a recent interview, MJF said that he views the practice not as a petty move, but as a savvy business decision. Speaking with TV Insider, the former AEW World Champion gave credit to WWE's leadership for their competitive tactics. He stated that if he were in their position, he would do the same thing. It's Business, Not Personal Rather than showing frustration, MJF explained that he respects the move from a business perspective. He believes that any company should do what is necessary to "stomp out" its competition. "I think it's a smart business practice," MJF said. "I give jolly old St. Nick [Khan] and Trips [Triple H] a whole lot of credit. At the end of the day, if you can stomp out your competition, you're doing what is necessary. Lord knows I would." He added that while some may view WWE's scheduling as a coincidence, he believes it is a deliberate and calculated business strategy. "They're not doing this by happenstance," he stated. The most famous example is the "Monday Night Wars" from 1995 to 2001, when WWE's Monday Night Raw went head-to-head with WCW's Monday Nitro. The intense competition, which included tactics like giving away taped results and talent jumping between companies, is often seen as the creative and commercial peak of the industry. The two promotions first went head-to-head during the "Wednesday Night War," when AEW Dynamite consistently beat WWE's NXT in the ratings, forcing NXT to move to Tuesday nights in 2021. A Timeline of Competition Since the end of the Wednesday Night War, WWE has continued to schedule programming and events opposite AEW's major shows. In October 2023, a "Supersized" episode of NXT, featuring major stars like John Cena and Cody Rhodes, went directly against Dynamite and won the ratings battle. On multiple occasions, WWE has scheduled premium live events like NXT Battleground on the same weekend as AEW's flagship Double or Nothing pay-per-view. This trend continues this coming weekend. AEW will present its massive All In: Texas stadium show on Saturday, July 12. On that same day, WWE will be airing two premium live events: Saturday Night's Main Event on NBC and The Great American Bash on Peacock. While AEW President Tony Khan has criticized these moves in the past, MJF clearly sees the competition as a sign of respect. More WWE News: For more on WWE, head to Newsweek Sports

WWE Bringing In Two Wrestling Legends For Evolution: Report
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. Two legendary former WWE Women's Champions are scheduled to be in Atlanta for this Sunday's Evolution premium live event. According to a new report from WWE Hall of Famer Alundra Blayze and the formidable Jazz are both expected to be present for the show. While their exact roles have not been confirmed, their presence opens the door for surprise appearances. It is highly speculated that they could be entrants in the high-stakes battle royal, where the winner will earn a future world championship match. A Trailblazer And Her Infamous Moment Alundra Blayze was the centerpiece of WWE's women's division in the mid-1990s "New Generation" era. A three-time WWE Women's Champion, she was known for her athletic, hard-hitting style that was ahead of its time. However, she is most famous for one of the most controversial moments of the Monday Night Wars. After leaving WWE for WCW in 1995, she appeared live on an episode of WCW Monday Nitro and infamously dropped the WWE Women's Championship belt into a trash can. This act made her a controversial figure for nearly two decades before she and WWE reconciled. She was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2015, where she brought the story full circle by "pulling" the title back out of the trash. Her legitimate toughness and smash-mouth style set her apart from many of her contemporaries. She was a two-time WWE Women's Champion, with her first reign lasting an impressive 98 days. She engaged in memorable feuds with the top stars of that era, including Trish Stratus and Lita. After leaving WWE, she continued a successful career, most notably having a dominant 948-day reign as the NWA World Women's Champion. The presence of these two legends at Evolution adds another layer of history to the event. They represent two distinct, important eras in the evolution of women's wrestling, and their potential involvement has fans buzzing ahead of this Sunday's show. Superman Early Reviews Are Saying the Same Thing
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. Entertainment gossip and news from Newsweek's network of contributors "Superman" is almost here and with the embargo lifted, early reviews are coming in. The verdict? Well, the fact that the film debuted on Rotten Tomatoes with a 91% critics score (which dropped soon to 86%) is telling. For the most part, reviewers are loving "Superman." IGN gave it an 8 out of 10, calling it "a wonderfully entertaining, heartfelt cinematic reset for the Man of Steel, and a great new start for the DC universe on the big screen." Dexerto calls it "a Superman movie unlike any you've seen before... by the end, you'll believe that James Gunn's DCU can fly." Meanwhile, Showbiz Junkies makes the very big claim that "David Corenswet is the best Superman since Christopher Reeve." Read More: 'Fantastic Four' Headquarters Listed on Zillow ScreenRant writes that the film "launches the DC Universe in spectacular fashion, with a fun-filled romp that requires refreshingly little homework." The reason? ComicBook puts it at the doorstep of director James Gunn, saying, "What makes Superman work is the same thing that has made Gunn's other adaptations so beloved: as a filmmaker, Gunn is unafraid to embrace the comic book elements at the heart of the source material." David Corenswet in "Superman". David Corenswet in "Superman". Warner Bros The most negative thread throughout the reviews is that words like "overstuffed" and "busy" seem to keep popping up, but even in many of those cases, the reviewers write that other qualities of the film made up for it. For example, The Mary Sue writes, "There is so much to love in this movie that even when there is a lot all happening at once, you never are left in the dark." Likewise, Screen International says, "Although overstuffed and uneven, at its best Gunn's Superman combines the most admirable attributes of both character and director, resulting in an ambitious, occasionally stirring film that is weirder, nervier and more thoughtful than most blockbusters." There are critics who didn't seem to care for the film at all. The San Francisco Chronicle calls the movie "a mess, but it's a colorful one. It's either a terrible superhero movie or an OK parody, take your pick." Still, the downturned thumbs seem to be in the minority. "Superman" releases in theaters on July 11. Tickets are on sale now. The film is written and directed by James Gunn. "Superman" stars David Corenswet, Rachel Brosnahan, Nicholas Hoult, Edi Gathegi, Anthony Carrigan, Nathan Fillion, and Isabela Merced.
